I have ZERO shelf control...oops...so here's a book haul :)
Hi friends!
I hope you're doing very well!!!
I'm here with a good ol' book unboxing!
I recently fell in love with the Kazuo Ishiguo collection/editions from Faber Books, so naturally I "needed" to own them! I also got a few books from Vintage Classics in their Japanese series, which are also stunning!
I wanted to display these beautiful reads, so this video also features some book shelf reorganizing :)
I hope you enjoy!
Sending you my very best wishes,
Carolyn :)
** I got these books from Book Depository, but you can also find them on Waterstones, Blackwell's, and Bookshop.org :) **

Honestly for me I liked Murakami much more. Reading Ishiguro I just felt melancholy and the twist in Klara and The Sun was wayy too weak to justify reading the 3/4ths before that, which was quite boring

Thank you for sharing about your grandpa and about the job at the nursing home. It’s not something easy to tell and it’s actually really brave not only tell in a public form but to work there from the beginning because not a lot can handle this kind of job when you need to take care of people with dementia. Omg I also bought the whole vintage Japanese collection, it's just stunning! I've finished reading Yoko Ogawa's book from that collection, called "The housekeeper and the professor". It was like a warm blanket for ur heart, such a lovely read, one of my 5 stars this year. I might have a softer spot for it as I've studied lots of maths during my life. It made me curious so after that I picked up "The memory police" from her ... and I adored it! It's a quite complicated book to find a reader for as the plot is not doing much, the characters are not necesarlly growing but I felt like she had an incredible talent of capturing feelings and intimate moments in her pages. I am looking forward to read "Never let me go" it's on my wishlist :D haha it will be my next purchase for sure.

A fellow booklover's excitement is just too contagious! And the Ishiguro ff edition so fine-tailored. I am jealous to the brink of those one hundred and one different book editions in english another more gorgeous than the other. Of course I have some of those darlings myself but for me reading in english is like looking at the spectacular scenery. Without glasses. I see some green and blue and the mountains but all the details and nyances are blurred and puns mistified. Btw, I learned a new word: a french flap. How many french things are there in the world? A dash in the text is in my language a french line. A french kiss. French fries. Amburger.

Hi Carolyn, Hope you're feeling well, you sound like you're catching a cold. I'm intrigued about your job in a health care facility. I worked for 48 years in a local hospital and understand what you went through daily.I worked the midnight shift which was so hard for the elderly patients. I just finished Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami and I really enjoyed the story. This was my first Murakami book and plan to continue reading. I have heard many people have a problem with the way he describes women (Emmie I think mentioned that in one of her videos). I loved Stoner. I listened on Audibles but immediately went out and bought a hard copy for my shelves. On your recommendation I want to pick up Beartown by Fredrik Backman. I have read A Man Called Ove and enjoyed it. Being a Swede myself I like to explore Swedish Authors. Love Henning Mankell and Stieg Larsson. Thank you for your dedication to providing us with great bookish content.

On the topic of memory loss and aging, have you read The Night Guest by Fiona MacFarlane? It's from maybe about ten years ago, set in Australia. It's about an elderly woman whose memory is slipping, who wakes up aware of a tiger in her room, and who ends up with a caretaker coming into her life who may or may not be helpful. It's been a while since I read it, but I think it's around 250 pages. Might be something you'd enjoy.

My favorite bookstore in London is Waterstones. I also order from Blackwells as well. I used to order a lot of books from the UK. Since Covid happened when I order books from the UK, the pages have a strong chemical type of smell. The smell of books in the US have a slight fragrance smell. I have bad allergies so I am hypersensitive to smells. It makes me so sad because before Covid I had no problems. Books that I bought before Covid, on my bookshelf, do not have these odors. Weird right? I have had to start reading ebooks. It makes me sad because nothing is better than reading a physical book. A lot of British books I can’t get as ebooks in the US. I find I read a lot of books set in China. For some reason I gravitate towards these types of books. I have only read one book set in Japan. I need to change this.
