I've had such a negative experience buying professional 16 mm cameras online. A broken ARRI SR1, a completely destroyed CP 16, and a defunct NPR later..I'm really happy that it worked out for you. super jealous. Happy Shooting!
I’m bummed to hear about that! It can definitely be tough to find something in good condition if you don’t know the seller or the camera history personally. I hope you find a good one! If you’re interested, check out a group I run on Facebook, Arriflex Anonymous, (linked in video description) lots of good, knowledgeable people in there and cameras pop up for sale from time to time.
No clue why the RU-vid algorithm recommended you/this video to me, but I am thrilled it did! Subscribed. And most importantly: thank you for sharing about your faith through your video. Even just the brief acknowledgment is tremendous. Excited to see what you do.
Man. This brings back memories. In high School I had an internship at a film shoot. I was camera assistant trainee. It was awsome. We shot with Arri SR 3 super 16. For a TV film year 2002. Damn them lenses they had and all the gear! Wow!
I need one of these for my larger projects lol. The k3 is great for personal stuff, but for bigger projects the clarity that this camera/lens combo brings is unreal.
Really nice to have someone who talks about super 16mm film !!! It is very difficult to find out information about it !!! Keep film alive !!! Peace from Paris , France !!!!
The format was invented by a late friend of mine, Rune Ericson. In the early days one had to be careful that the lab didn’t scratch the extended part of the image but by now I imagine all have had the rollers updated. Great format for 16x9 even though that standard wouldn’t exist for another 20+ years!
Hey Nkosi, thank you so much for sharing your energy! You seem like a cool dude and I'm definitely looking forward to more of your videos. I'm from Toronto and luckily we have a facility here called LIFT (Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto) which has many Bolex 16s (a couple Super-modified ones), the Aaton XTR Prod, and the Arri SRII. If you ever come to Toronto, please do reach out - you got support out here! God bless brother.
*Hello Fellow Brother in Christ. I pray you will receive an Arriflex 416 Super 16 mm camera. This was the very last in a series of studio production Super 16 mm motion picture cameras made by Arriflex before they ceased all further production and development of 16 mm based motion picture cameras. This camera could use allot of 35 mm lenses and accessories interchangably with the Arri 435 35 mm motion picture camera. The 416 was noiseless running, self blimped, computer controlled with built in color video tap and speed regulation. This was the only 16 mm motion picture camera which produced images on 16 mm negative which actually approached 35 mm quality. This was especially true if you used Eastman 5245 ASA 50 Daylight negative film in it. The SR 2 Super 16 is a great production camera, and many network TV series were shot on this camera. The SR 3 was even quieter and many wildlife series were shot on the HS (High Speed) version of this camera along with specially configured 800 foot super magazines lubricated to run in minus 40 plus degree Farenhieght temperatures. A famous Academy Award winning wildlife feature epic film on Emperor Penguins was shot on the SR3 version of this camera.*
i was expecting that subscriber count to have two extra 00s ,thankfully youtube algo got me to this , and congrats mate , not a film maker but i love films and as musician i know how it feels to own something you have wanted for so long
Loved the aesthetic and all the info about the film setup! Sidenote: Really cool that you're talking about your faith openly on youtube. Inspiring for me :)
cool video! these older arri cameras seems really dope. also thank you for mentioning Elokuvakonepaja, i finally found a local place for film thanks to this video!
Love it when God puts people in our path in wild ways like that! Wild story man! Shooting on film isn’t really my thing, my I LOVE cinematography! Happily subscribed to support a fellow DP! Lord Bless you my friend!
Very interesting! I am always happy to find such kind of content in youtube! I love film cameras! Will be waiting for more videos about arri film cameras and also inages that you have shot with it!
Greetings from Singapore, NKosi! So blessed to have chanced upon your video today, from one brother in Christ (who also works with camera gear) to another, it’s great to see you sharing your faith in your videos too! Have a blessed day❤️
Congrats on buying your dream camera I'm currently saving up to buy my dream camera the CP-16, I should have enough saved up to buy it early next month.
This was randomly reccomended to me but wow! Such an awesome story of how you got the camera! I love the look of film and I hope to one day shoot on it and possiibly even get my own film camera. But this was such a great video on the SR2!
Congrats! That is a beauty! Seen a Super 16 converted SR2 HS package once on eBay. Even though the seller said fully refurbished, it was full of battle scars and they wanted 25 grand. No way. All the best for your upcoming projects!
Sometimes you can’t trust eBay haha! If you’re looking to get one, or just interested in the cameras, check out Arriflex Anonymous, a group I run on Facebook. (Linked in the description) Super fun group!
@@nkosiroma thanks , will do ASAP. Well I just own a humble Super 16 converted Krasnogorsk-3. At the moment I'm flat broke (your typical hard working but starving musician). Will definitely get an S 16 camera before I get too old. Same here: shooting on film in a format superior to Super 8 is a life long dream of mine. All the best!
@@nkosiroma Yes, the K-3 can produce great, pro level results. Due to its limitations, it's very hard to film dialog. My idea is doing a digital mockup first, edit it until I'm happy with it and then shoot the same thing on locatiuon and on film. This way you only shoot what you need, since the final edit already exists. This on the othyer hand doesn't allow for improvisation. I still think the digital mockup is the best choice when on a very tight budget.
Glad to hear of another Believing filmmaker in Colorado. Not to mention someone who is interested in 16mm film. Let me know if you ever need help with a project. I'd be happy to help out!
Love to hear other brothers in Christ helping one another out with their professions! We need more people following the LORD in filmmaking! It's been encouraging to see other believers with the same interests!
I really enjoyed that dog. You know your old school cameras, fresh! Thanks for the website reference, I'm looking into a Blackmagic 6kPro for a docu-series and 2 Cam interview setups but I want to rent it first. Thx again
@@nkosiroma Well, I haven’t shot with it in long time, but maybe again sometime in future. Yes I still shoot, I’m using multiple cameras at this time, looking at what is out there and results.
Im a first AC in LA. I bought an Aaton xtr prod about 2 years ago. Still haven’t Dp’d with it lol. Stuck in the ac cycle. But it’s probably shot about 15 music videos I’ve rented it on.
Dope camera! I’ve heard a lot of good things about them, but never personally shot with one. When it’s tough to find gigs, you gotta get out and create your own! 💪🏽
Nice video man! I just Dolly Gripped on a feature last year shooting on the SR3. It was quite the experience! Stoked to see what you create! Subscribed!
@@nkosiroma It was actually shot close to Sarasota Florida. I'm a local in St. Pete. The DP and some gear came from Chicago, but the rest of us were locals on set. If you're ever down in this area, let me know! Love getting to work with different DP's. 🤙
cool video! thank you! elokuvakonepaja is finnish and stands for motion picture machine workshop, directly translated. it's a finnish, not swiss, company:-)
Amazing video with some beautiful cinematography. Subbed instantly. One question: What kind of texture effect is it used on some elements in the intro (for example 15sec and 28sec). it looks like a very clean and satisfying 4K capture of an old analog TV. If been looking for a plug-in that achieves this effect for ages but nothing looked as good as these shots. Or did you literally film an old TV in 4k?
Cool video man. What movie have your favorite cinematography? For me, probably the original “Rocky”. I love how they were able to capture the grittiest of Philadelphia and the long continuous shots.
Definitely watch through and you’ll get your answer! 😉 They’re hard to come by, but I’ll see them pop up on the Facebook group I run, Arriflex Anonymous from time to time, (there’s one up for sale right now actually). The link to the group is in the video description!
Whoa! I’m like 99% sure I know who you bought this from. Was it M****** K***** from Dallas? I didn’t realize he sold it 😢. I wanted to shoot on it so bad.
Unbelievably happy for you. I'm in a very similar situation at the moment; I've been shooting for 20 years and I feel I'm at at the point where if I don't make the permanent switch over to film I'm going to lose interest in the medium completely. I haven't yet made the jump but I'm definitely decided on super 16 as it's by far always been my favorite format. Settling on a body, constantly buying film stock and processing doesn't worry me so much as investing in lenses that I can afford but still feel good about. I've done it several times in the past on a budget and it's always been super tricky. Are you looking into eventually adding any primes to your setup/package? Cheers!
Thanks so much! It’s been amazing shooting on film. Im thinking about doing a year recap soon and go over some of the projects I’ve shot and how it’s been. let me know if you’d like to see it! To answer your question, I now have a set of Optar Illumina Primes, which I quite enjoy.
It’s a combination of effects over text! That’s the simplest way to explain it haha. I’ve had a few questions on it, I might have to do a breakdown video.
Honestly? My favorite part was the time y’all took to pray together. That’s really beautiful when people who don’t know you, not only want you to succeed, but be happy and healthy. That’s so heartwarming. And congrats on the camera!
Awesome video man, really enjoyed it. I believe your name is derived from Zulu which means “king”, I’m Zulu myself. I have to say though your pronunciation is a bit off, no offence or anything. It’s “Nko-see” instead of “nee-kosee” obviously it’s your name and can pronounce it how you choose, just really wanted to share that with you. Looking forward to seeing more of your work on the Arri.
If you’re right up to the subject you’ll hear it, but if you’re at a normal distance it shouldn’t be too noticeable. I haven’t had much experience with sound and film yet, but I will absolutely share my thoughts when I can make an on set BTS style video.
