I just wanna say I really appreciate how you shoot these with several weeks of results in one video. I watch so many other RU-vidr’s where you have to follow along for multiple weeks and videos to see progress, but you always manage to group it all in one video and I LOVE it!

I have six aquarium in my house keeps different type of schooling fishes, betta, flower horn and Axolot etc. wish to visit your shops in Australia when visit there. Learn a lot watching your videos. Love you too❤❤
Been breeding kill is for 40+ years and you’ve done well getting so many fry. Lots of guys just selling damp peat. A big thing in the killi community is not cross breeding them, trying to keep the strains pure, as many are endangered in the wild. Really you should have kept the two types apart because when they grow the males will be very distinct as in your photos. The females, however, all look very similar, not unlike a female guppy. You’re doing the right thing with the third lot, good luck, hope you get a good hatch.
Hi Ive been keeping killifish on and off for 45 years keeping mostly annuals. The species you have can be stored in peat and hatch but they are more often water hatched in 2-3 weeks.Storing them for 1-2 months extra will not work esp the A.australe. Some of the gardeneri clan can be stored in peat for a while. The true annual killifish are Nothobranchius in Africa and the old name "Cynolebias"in South America which are now divided into lots of new genera usually ending in-lebias.The fish you have are not rare. Most months AI or Bayfish will stock them.I hope you were not ripped off paying lots for the eggs.
Nick, totally just spend the last couple of weeks bingeing your vids. Started out 'I live vicariously via RU-vid'. Ended with me pulling all my old fish gear out and setting a couple of tanks. Thanks for inspiring me to get back into it again.
Do you realize how many people you probably just encouraged to go by Killi fish eggs from eBay and hatch them out😂 I know you convinced me, you make everything look so easy. I'll be making that purchase here in a few minutes😂 You are great, love your videos.
I've been raising Killies for about 5 years now. My best advice? Do not buy your killifish eggs from Glasgow (The seller keeps changing his name). The fella is one of the main sellers on ebay and he has a horrible attitude and is basically selling bags of dirt. The various "eggs" I received were always freshly harvested which means you will have to wait 3 months before you can try and hatch them and too late to complain. Of course there is no reason for you to believe me but I feel better for warning you. If you can, stick to the private sellers. Out of 5 species from the Glasgow sellers (there's two of them that live in the same street) I managed to hatch ONE egg. Never had a failure from other sellers.
Hi mate I really like your videos but please dont distribute the eggs if they are mixed species. Purity of species is incredibly important in the killifish community. Also the fish mentioned in the videos are non-annuals and dont necessarily live in areas that dry up though the eggs are able to be stored on peat. Keep up the good work

What a fun and interesting project! Those babies are adorable. I hope the third batch is viable and that you get some fry from that one, as well. Take care. (I enjoy your videos!)
Hi Nick,You should do some reading before....You made a lot of mistakes in the video and unfortunately pass some wrong info....These are not annual killifish so you must treat them differently and NEVER mixed them together.Killifish are the fastest maturing invertebrate on the planet and are able to breed at as little as six weeks and the possibility of creating hybrids is big.....I love your content but this was not a good video
What you said may or may not be true. However there is a better way to say it. That was a bit harsh. Nick is a great guy and also admitted that he is new to killifish and doesn't know a lot. So instead of saying this wasn't a good video how about just leaving it at some of the mistakes you noticed so he can look into some of it to see if it's true. Just saying...
@@michellescott8570 I disagree, I was too polite on how these 'fish' were treated....And don't get me wrong, Nick has great content and it is a pleasure to watch his videos and see his passion but this was an 'unfortunate' video and a common mistake among 'content creators' that want to make content no matter what
I'm looking at getting some gold australe killis for my tank, but I haven't been able to find any adults for sale lately. This video's given me another potential option of getting some eggs and raising the fry up to adulthood. I already breed ricefosh, so It should be fairly easy to raise these guys. Thanks for posting this, hopefully I'll be able to find some eggs or adults soon!
hi Nick ! these killifish are not annual one ! this are non-annual killifish ! well at least for the australe and nigerianus that i breed, they can live up to 3 -4 years and the eggz incubation are lot shorter in time ( and they grow slower in general ) ! just so you have success breeding those amazing fish ! thank you for your videos im a big fan from france🇫🇷 and thanks to you now i have my little fishroom ! gl hf with killis ! (sorry for my english )
Killifish live longer in captivity due to the owners keeping tbem ina 'wet' situation....as they arent killed by the water drying up they carry on living
Hi, none of the fish he is hatching are annuals. The steel blue (gardnerei) and australe can live 3 years or more. I had a golden wonder killi last for almost 6 years. It only died when it tried to eat another fish that was too big. You do need a tight fitting lid for them. They are ridiculous jumpers.
Wow! How fascinating. I'm 58 and been keeping fish since I was 12. Its been a fascinating hobby. I have to say your videos are the most interesting I have watched. I can see you truly love the science of nature. We truly live in a wonderworld if you just open your heart and eyes. 😁👍
it does make sense that some eggs need to dry before hatching. i have no idea if that's true but it does seem logical if that species is adapted to more extreme wet/dry swings.
From a human perspective, the fish is remarkable. How they are capable of being dormant in dry soil and wait until their environment is more favourable is magnificent.
This is cool where did you get the eggs from. Where I'm at in the states it's impossible to find these. It used to be everywhere in the stores. I'd also like to see the updates on the shrimp hatchery's.
I'd also like to see some of your tips on dwarf chiclid rams ECT. They don't sell them anymore by us like they used to. But I was told they are hard to keep don't live long that's why they don't carry them. I was thinking that is more of a myth and just how they care for them during shipping.
Another awesome video Nick! I've never kept killifish, but I've always wanted to. I'm curious if you are going to be breeding angels in your new fishroom/shop? It sounded like it might not be the most profitable fish to breed, but I'd love to see the angels bred in a space large enough to do it more successfully.
Hey Nick I had a couple questions about the annual killifish. I’ve heard when kept in an aquarium they actually live much longer and are only called annual because where they live dries up and kills them do you know of this to be true? If not how long do the annual killifish roughly live?
none of these are what are called annual killifish. These are from the wet tropics of africa, Cameroon, Nigeria, and into Gabon. The steel blue killie is what is called a semi-annual and you can incubate the eggs in moist peat. But you could just as easily incubate the eggs in water and they should hatch in under three weeks. Life span of these three killies is from 3 to 5 years in aquariums. Most annual killies, like Nothobranchius guentheri, have a life span around a yearl. Nothobranchius furzeri only lives about four or five months and is the shortest lived of killifish. It is important to know where your fish come from, so you can give them the proper conditions. So if you get these three species, you can expect them to produce eggs for several years.
I thought about doing this a year ago but the guaranteed hatch rate was so low that I didn’t think it would be worth the money, but after seeing this video I may start looking for eggs again
Thanks for creating this video ! i always wondered about Killi's and wanted to try those mail order eggs. You really helped with that decision. Cheers !
u r a very young breeder I ever seen..... thank you for providing the information about all the fishes and also how to breed them...... ❤❤ can you please suggest me some good plants for my aquarium..... it's about 20 gallons........ please
You know how people from the US always asking if you ship internationally. I know I know, but I’m just saying. Maybe something to think about with these. Great content good luck.
hey can i get a tip? cuz i had betta fry and i started feeding them egg yolks and should i feed them egg yolks everyday or should i feed them mosquito larvae and mango worms? cuz i don't have much available here, baby brine shrimp is super *EXPENSIVE* to get any easier food to find?
Im having trouble with getting to the safe zone with fry. I put them in a container like you did, and then usually 2-3 weeks i move them to a breeder net in a 10 gal with other juvenile honey guaramis.... so they dont get mistaken for BBS. But i seem to often lose them sound week 3. So i was wondering about your set up in the container ( tank water or new water? Filter? Air? Any tips are appreciated!! Thanks love the channel and good luck with the new store!!!
Not one of the 3 species you received are annuals. Aphyosemion australe Gold typically hatch in 12 to 14 days and are sometimes placed in wet peat for shipping. The 2 variesties of Fundulopanchax nigerianus may be treated as semi-annuals but they aren't actually annuals such as Nothobranchius spp. Your Fundulopanchax nigerianus usually hatch in 14 to 16 days if incubated in water. If their eggs are both laid or stored in wet peat it allows eggs of different ages to be hatched at once after storing for 5 or 6 weeks.
My Nonthobrachius Rachovii I bread myself hatched literally within 20 minutes of touching the water! I could not believe it! These guys are ready to go hahaha
Bro, i wanna ask some question about shrimps... My shrimps tank is infest with mosquito larvaes, how do i kill it without introduce fishes to the tank? I always change water and clean the tank whenever this happened, but as usual some shrimp will die.... Hmmm.
Hey Nick how are you mate. I would like to send you though some glue for fresh water and salt water tanks if you'd be interested. Regards Nick Atlantis & Co
I know this is not related to your video but was wondering about this. Maybe you can answer this question for me. If the power goes out will the fx4 canister filter backfire and have the water that's in the canister back into the aquarium and overfill the aquarium or its design not to backfire and overfill the aquarium? And when the power turns back on it will just go through its normal priming cycle? Thank you
Just a quick note if you already don’t know, these are not true annual killifish. Their eggs hatch in only 3 weeks. These come from forest streams in Nigeria or Cameroon. True annuals come from East Africa in temporary pools that dry up. These are from the Genus Nothobranchius. Also you shouldn’t mix species as females are extremely hard to tell from each other.
Hey mate, where did you get these killifish eggs from? I’ve been hunting for days and can’t find anywhere in Australia that has them.. I’m a massive killifish fan, they’re great in community tanks
You probably know this but the Aphysimion australe and others from West Africa are not annual fish as such or bereit they are Killers - many of the others including from South America and Africa are if you dry them out a number of times you will probably get more hatchlings - I kept the Killie many years ago in Queensland Regards Roy
Hello the water level should be 1 Inch from the bottom and not so deep so when the fry hatch will not be hard to them to get air from the surface, i hatch them in small tabs like Butter tabs or Small Tupperware boxes or thevBottom of a Water Bottle, the way i do is I cut the bottom of a Transparent 2.5 ltr bottle so the fry will not be hard to them to find food and light will penetrate in. I have killis that is Some of my experience! 😀 Thks for sharing Good luck. 😉
Those species are not Annual types. The eggs hatch in about 21 days \(18-23) for the orange australe. They are a mop spawner. The eggs of these species must be kept wet. Annual types egg still need damp but the eggs need to be much drier to enter their resting phase.
cuz ,you take a straw,or some tubing and blow into the water ,and the carbon dioxide ruptures the egg membrane. works on stubborn eggs that are fertilized.
Hey I’ve watch a lot of your videos and I kno that you breed a lot of Pleco’s any idea why mines keep laying eggs on the outside the caves instead of inside the cave my guess is because they’re young but any pointers you might can give me to get them to get it right? They are super red bristle nose Pleco’s
can you tell us the breeder of the eggs. I would like to try some iam in the US so they should be able to make the trip . but shipping may be expensive.
