No reading of instructions? Good lord. If only he knew what many others were able to make with it. Pieces of total Art. Who's the Tool? Not the Lathe.

I have a friend who has no wood working experience & no practical experience of using tools. He didn't know what a lathe was before I told him. Before I could explain more he bought this on Amazon. And has used it to craft some beautiful parts for an Indian musical instrument over a foot in length. And a mini baseball bat. All made from hardwood

It is what it is , I use mine for making fishing floats , it's perfect for balsar wood and cork , you want a proper lathe , you can buy one new for less then 200 , and turn 1mtr lengths.its come in very handy for the odd bits for motorcycle too , cutting bolts ECT . Expect very little and what you will actually use it for , it'll be fine . Don't expect museum sculptures 😊

A very pre-biased and dismissive review. This is a great little machine and with a little imagination can be improved, and really is ideal for small light work. I love it!

Turn the tool rest around so the upright is closer to the material. Clamp it down to the desk so it doesn’t vibrate all over the table. And mount the material to the chuck with an arbor with a bigger screw. Just a few quick ideas to get a better result. You might be able to make some small parts.

Thanks for taking one for the team. I’m wanting to just turn some custom pipe stems and I don’t need a giant lathe but obviously this is not a small option. Thanks again for the info

Here is the thing about this little lay. You are reviewing it by comparing it to a $500. PLUS lathe and you just can't do that. This little lathe has been a great gift for kids to get them started in wood working. Playing with lite weight scrap wood. Even for adults that would like to maybe build a bird house and make it a little fancy. My mom bought and used one with great results doing just this. No one expects a 30 dollar lathe to be bought to be put on the assembly line of a major manufacture. But for the hobbiest building a doll house and playing around, what else do they need?

Oh neat, I just got one of these out of curiosity. I ditched the included block carving tools and used a couple freshly sharpened beater chisels and it did pretty well with maple without any chipping for a couple chisel handles with some turning frame saw handles planned. Though I did plane the blocks I used into octagonal shapes to not stress the motor too much and tried to use a fairly light touch like was recommended on one review, it was easy to accidentally jab the chisel too hard and actually outright stop the chuck from turning after it caught. The rpm is pretty gnarly, even on the lowest setting, I might get another adapter to hopefully tame it down a little lol

...well now...that was interesting...and me, being me, had to see what I could find on this... The one I looked up had a slide switch on the power supply for speed control...wondering if this one had the same? IF, and this is a big "if", TBC bushings fit over the chuck and live center, one "may" be able to turn a pen blank?...although t may be tough to get it tightened down adequately... Other than that, turn the motor around, chuck up a sanding disk (or polishing pad) and clamp it to the edge of a bench... Matt

It wasn't my favorite, but I know some folks are making it work. I guess it all depends on the person and how much work they want to put into making it work. For me though it was a no go

If you had a metal lathe you could use it to drill holes and have it mounted to the tool post fast drilling with small drill bits is perfect

Hi Chad, have a look at 357 Magdad's site, the stuff he turns is brilliant ! Also by turning the tail stock around, you can get nearly ten inches length on a workpiece. Also by cutting the head off a standard woodscrew you can get a firmer grip on the workpiece. I took out the tailstock centre piece and inserted a small cardboard roll into the bearings which enables me to turn fishing float bodies on a 4 mm wood skewer using balsa wood, cork, and glued up styrofoam blanks. The tools are utter crap, so bin them, and either buy a mini lathe tool set or modify a half decent wood chisel set on the grinder. My turning materials are quite soft so all my turning is done with varying grades of sandpaper. Please dont give up on this brilliant little lathe just yet, just choose your battles carefully ! ✌❤ Bob.

Boss, admittedly is is a cheap lathe. However if you already have a lathe and do use it and get reasonable production.....then you loaded the lathe up..... shoddy and would have gotten less than stellar results from your nice lathe. Just saying the pre bias was obvious.

Reviews a known lower quality product, pushes it to its limits right away, doesn't notice the variable speed switch on the power supply, and gives it a thumbs down... ok dude lol. I've seen people turning beautiful handles, pens, rings, etc. out of these with not as much knowledge as you in this field. Really give something a chance next time and do your homework.

Cant believe you own a wood shop, with a large wood lathe... do you also try to do miniature turns in your large lathe? why on earth would you put such big stock in this lathe? its not meant for that you know... i think you came in with a preconceived judgement to fail this lathe, and you actually failed. Btw, you added the stock croocket to start with and went in to hard. To answer your question, YES. I'm a noob. a noob that apparently uses the brain..
