In todays video we finally show you guys the new VY SS that I purchased for a steal! Couldn't be happier finally owning a sting red VY SS and in a manual too! Enjoy the first look at the new whip.
great vid - love the history it holds in your family, bought a VYII in 2005 with 40k on the clock - was a rare combo of quicksilver, blue leather interior, 6 sp man, stock as - had it for 3 years and did not miss a beat, lots of great memories.
Great buy and a really awesome bit of backstory to it. Definitely gotten some good deals over the years dealing with sellers like that. The LS1s are extremely reliable if maintained and not flogged. I used to have a WH LS that had been a similar story, lived in the country and had 390 on the clock when I got it, still ran like new. I'm sure it'll do you guys well.
Nice find. I purchased a 2003 manual VY SS in hot house green from Brisbane in 2017 for $3700 with 445,000km. Ran perfectly and the body was in remarkably good condition, even had an OTR, extractors and maffless tune which I doubt the dealer understood. You mention noisy trans, it had a noisy trans too and it was simply the boot that surrounds the gearstick to stop the sound coming in the cabin, a new boot from Holden completely fixed the issue.
Nice mate very similar! Yeah nah I replaced the boot and it’s the thrust bearing going in and out of gears, with the new boot it’s much quieter but the noise is definitely still there
Buying a car with over 200,000kms always has scared me it’s good to know that you brought a good car even with over 400,000kms on it and it’s still reliable gives me a little bit of hope
What a coincidence he only wanted 9k for it originally. I'm picking up a pretty clean 5 litre VQ Statesman on Sunday for exactly that same price. Just goes to show there are still some bargains out there, even for V8s.
@@Marc180sx Yeah that's it man. When I saw it I just had to jump on it within an hour of it being put up. I've seen clean Buicks going for more than that! Anyways mate good to see you're going well. I was an early subscriber of yours when you first started, but kinda lost interest in cars for a little bit there. The interest is coming back though in a big way, and this was the first vid I've watched in a while. Awesome to see how far your channel and car collection has come man! Looking forward to tuning in on the regular again
Mate this is unreal , so glad this got reccomended. I drive a 2002 ba xr6 manual venom red falcon and have done for a while, love this era of holden/ford, alot of fun in the manual too🤩
I bought one of these new back in the day , in 6 speed really enjoyed it. Small point though the paint colour is actually called Red Hot. Sting red is the hsv colour.
I love these things! I used to have a red, manual VZ SS with red leather, loved that thing! sold it to by a Monaro CV8, but things changed and never got the Monaro. Would love another VZ SS or Monaro at some stage though! Looks good, great project mate, keen to see more!
Nice find. One of my old workmates bought a red 03 ss wagon for $4k about 5 years ago. Had done 426k driving from Hobart to Launceston and back daily, i offered him 5 grand but he said no. It bounced around Tassie for sale a few years later and each sale, the price went up! Im an import guy but would love a V8
My mum had a 2003 VY S pac in hothouse green, grew up in it & loved it. A bit after my parents split up my dad eventually bought the car off her, put it in storage for a while, then sold it - she replaced it with a Series 1 VE SV6, in 2014-15ish. Imo Hothouse Green is unbeatable on the VY, Cosmic Purple and Quicksilver also look great (really all the colours look great haha) would love to get an SS in Hothouse green tho. Currently on my first car, a manual VZ Sv6 in impulse blue, loving just about every bit of it.
You should’ve given it to your mum as a gift so she could relive the days when she had her old one. That’s what I would’ve done. Very nice and well looked after.
Unfortunately because it’s manual I couldn’t give it to her as she only drives auto, if I find a sting red auto similar specked to hers I will defs but her one
Wow man what a find and cool that you have history with it ❤ my first car was a white VT V6 - was a beautiful car but Holden V8s always have a beautiful sound and for 7 bro you gotta keep it for life
Thank you, I enjoyed your video so much ! My wife came into see why I was positively laughing 😂when you showed the SS at your home with Lawrence the R31. I have a VZ2 SS Crewman that I will not sell with parked next to my Nissan R31 called Nan Nan .You have great Taste .
Hell yeah im super keen to see anither youtuber with a VY SS on there Channel, Im fully rebuilding my HotHouse Green VY SS which iv been super slack with getting an update out but yeah excited to see more of this and what you do to it.
Nice one, especially considering the km's on it. I've got a '04 VY SS ute too that I've had for 13 years. They are a great model. I'll never part with mine. We think the same way too, VLs are a favorite of mine as well, VYs do look better than VZ's, and I don't like chev badges on Commodores either.
My mate bought what i now own, quicksilver manual vy ss, red leather interior for $6k. Does have 270k with oil pressure issues and minor clear coat peel on the front guards. i have everything to rebuild and a spare ls as well! This one is very clean 👌
Dude what an absolute 💎 in the rough gem of a car that is. Absolutely beautiful and not much work to bring it back to mint factory condition as an Aussie Holden Car Nut I Salute U Sir. Bravo bravo.👏👏👏👏 This being the first video that that lead me to ur channel as well by the way. Keep up the great work mate. I'll be keeping an 👁 out for more content on the vy ss in the near future.
Well im all things holden/hsv but I do like my jdm cars and high end exotic cars like lambos and that but I like abit of everything so im just a general car nut as well lol. And incase ur wondering im aussie from nsw on Central Coast and ive also worked in alot of car related areas just not in a major way. I worked either detailing cars(fancy way of saying I washed and vacuumed cars for not great money)but then I also learned how to buff cars working in hail repair companies around Australia so yer thats basically my car loving sort of background if u will who is also thinking about starting a RU-vid channel soon lol. What about u man where about in Australia r u located?
Also i wonder how many Aussies we can get to like comment share and also please pretty please watch the ads till the end thank you in advance this is to make sure us aussie start up youtubers channel get the amount of views needed to actually start to receive actual money so again please 🙏pretty please watch the ads till the end and like this post and any other aussie company u can think of because alot of Aussie companies r actually on RU-vid believe it or not I as an Aussie am surprised by just how many Australian things and companies are actually on RU-vid of all thing.
Glad to see your happy , very soon I will inherit my dads sting red vy acclaim , needs work but I'm not planning on getting rid of it . I'm going to use it for my L's, keen for you brother .
I bought a silver vy ss manual leather interior for 4k. Tuned to 360hp. But didn't have 3rd or reverse gears. Paid 1200 to fix the box so around 5.2k altogether. Had 210ks on it. Had headers custom exhaust. Man I miss that rig. Had it for a year and a bit, let my little brother take it one night and he wrote it off 🤦♂️
Hi Marc. I am extremely happy for you that you have bought what you have bought (VY SS Commodore manual) for your new pride & joy... yes I have made quite a few people laugh alongside with my Asperger's sense of humour this week over what car's people remind me of. one of your mates have recently bought a 1983 Toyota Corolla CS sedan the car you remind me of and the associated song from Daryl Braithwaite - Rise... All the wonders of my Asperger's sense of humour... I am extremely excited for you too that you have bought yourself a - VY SS manual Commodore... yeah still waiting on my campervan but it is getting there closer - Just taking a bit of time lately because of getting things like my driver's seat structurally sorted " because the previous owners of my van did not previously have a proper Urvan seat given things have been bloody changed (can't remember the exact details) which was the reason why it was so complicated and took a hell of a long time. Cheers 🥂 from William. Mount Gambier South Australia. The second car that you remind me of is also this car now that you have bought and the associated song for this car is also from Daryl Braithwaite - Rise... same as for the other car now you can also play in this car for your next future video in the VY Commodore..... congratulations for your engagement with your Mrs plus her new car - VY SS Commodore - the second car you remind me of with the exact same song from Daryl Braithwaite - Rise... I'm sure your Mrs would find it quite Gold if you told her my Asperger's sense of humour what car's people remind me of such as yourself reminding me of this car also as well as the 1983 Toyota Corolla sedan... yeah definitely get yourself a Holden club sport and play this song in that car too(Daryl Braithwaite Rise)
Hey William thanks heaps mate, your comments always brighten up my day haha and I absolutely love your sense of humour, hope all is going well with the Van too mate 👌
@@Marc180sx You're extremely welcome my friend... yes my van is coming very well now and I am not doing too bad I have been up and down. You take care too mate. From William.
cool video love ya excitement in ya voice and yeh its in bloody good nick good price to. reckon its gone to a good home. Full respect to the seller for looking after it and not trying to get big $$$ for it. it is what it is an old car with high ks but with lots of life left in it because it was looked after. Ps bloody crack up taking off the chev shit i would have too
Hi kms, But mate you got yourself a bargain, even if you had to spend another 2 grand on it. It’s worth every cent. History of Australian engineering icons. Happy for you and your mum. And the lucky wife.
I reckon you should drop the seat and steering wheel at the trimmers to keep it mint and fairly original. Also I wonder if the car was resprayed at some point? Given the fact that the paint is mint and there are no dents after 400k km.
I recently sold my Sting red low k's touch under 15,000 same series 2. You done well, I now own a 2010 VE HSV GTS. Sadly, had to re build the ls3 6.2 6 speed manual. My old SS, after a few mods, went well. It's not the same animal as GTS
great vid great car i had a vy ss ute that i rebuilt great car .i think the price you paid was fair it will keep its value if left in original condition have fun
Great car at a great price mate. I’ve got a 2004 VZ SS auto with 207,000 k’s. Hey when you paint your wheels it’d be great if you did a vid on that. I need to do mine but don’t know much about painting wheels.
dream spec if i were to get a vy ss for sure, love the red and the leather seats and with a manual, just not sure if i want to go for that or an xr6 turbo yet
Definitely an awesome spec I absolutely love it! Either one you pick will be awesome but I would prefer the SS, the grunt and sound never get old, but the xr6 turbo noises would be fkn sick also 😍
Nice video.. for me the vy ss/hsv series is when shit got real with these cars... This series was the platform for performance.. after the vy series v8 holdens turned into rockets.
Country cars are good! Always running hot, as we know. I used to sell cars in Perth and we had a VZ Calais international with 200k's and it was tight as a drum, absolutely immaculate, felt like half the k's. I love VY's too and have owned 2, an S auto and SS man, both utes and both hothouse green, both immaculate around 130k's. The only bugbear I had with the SS was the notchy gearbox, felt slow moving from 2nd to 3rd. I always wanted to give it a lower diff to, like 27 or lower. Anyways enough of my ramblings she's a good score you've got there man, well done. 😉👍
@Marc180sx I finally came to terms with the diff in the SS and it should definitely be shorter than the standard 3:08 and I was dabbling with 3:27 but I think with the high 1st and ridiculous 6th at least 3:43 or roundabouts. I think then you'd have a decent launch machine. By the way I've owned a lot of Commodores and driven thousands and the VY is my favourite. Even other car dealers and salesman agree. I bet Holden was joyous when the VZ came into play with it's miserable ☹️ Alloytech boat anchor. As soon as the warranty period was over they started raking it in. I always said to myself that if I was to buy another Commodore post VY it would be exclusively V8. I can't think of anything else to warn you about the VY because they're bullet proof well put together cars so. Enjoy!😃
@@OliverMoore1973 what ratio diff would u recommend for a partly built ecotec v6 that has stock auto transmission but has a lsd swapped 3.07 diff that I got swapped from standard 3.08 non lsd diff And world that diff ratio need to b different if a turbo was added later on?
@merlintroy You'd get a more accurate answer from somebody in a forum but I do remember my S V6 got too many kays out of 1st for my liking so I'm guessing a 3.27 would suffice and preferably LSD but it depends on what sort of revs you want to pull at highway cruising so you could even drop into the 3.4's... check out more opinions, of course.
What a bargain mate you got yourself a beast there that's ForeSure. Very Nice :)I have the same series white version but auto wish it was manual what a car Bro, the series 2 has the black roof lining as well not that it's a big thing but yeh well done if she ever wants an auto let me no hehehe
My first car was a black on black wh statesman v6 but looked like a wh international.. my second car was a vy supercharged v6 which I still own for 5 yrs an only put 2000k on it 😁😁 an my 3rd was vt then a vz wagon an now I have a vy ute which I keeping as well as the vy super 6 😁😁👍 Plan is to purchase a vy SS an keep that as well 😅
I am really not a Holden/Ford/Chrysler guy (drive old Alfas mostly nowadays), though I have owned various 6-cylinder Kingswoods, Falcons and Valiants in the past. But I came very close to buying a white '98 VT SS for $12k that I stumbled upon at a wholesaler about six months ago. Simply because I've never owned a V8 and thought they are probably now at their cheapest point before the ones that are still roadworthy start going up in price again as V8 Aussie nostalgia. It was a +250,000km country car with intermittent service history, but seemed a good runner, totally straight (never repainted and duco was dusty but unmarked), had clean factory alloys and even the body kit was complete and unmarked. So a bit of a unicorn - usually skirts are cracked and bodged, with unmatched paint patches and wheels covered in gutter rash from a life of hoonery. I am kind of annoyed I didn't take a punt on it though the missus would have killed me if I'd dragged another +20yo car home... One question for Holden fans - why do so many VT-VZ SS, Clubsport and SV8 models (excluding ones with leather interior) have such god-awful cloth trim? They look like they are made from Fat Pizza tracksuits.
I just went interstate to buy a red vy2 ss. Sunroof, manual, black leather interior, 110,000ks, and completely stock. Paid $29k for it - more than double what I paid for the identical vy ss I bought 10 years ago 😅
i got my vy ss mid covid for 8k with rwc and a year rego then decided to put a custom interior , wrap , wheels , blah blah now about to cam it. bought as a investment then fell back inlove with a v8 and now i never wanna get rid of it haha
I would think being the same shape they should fit. The vt lights r different and so r the vx I didn't realise that vy vz did the same and changed again.
I recently bought a VN SS for $5k with 492,000kms but planning to swap the engine out, But I'm not gonna use a holden engine. I'm going to use a VK45DE from a Nissan 450GT shits gonna sound different 😂
I've been told that if you can get a Commodore or Falcon with a V8 coupled to a manual gearbox cheap ,take it home and keep it in the garage, why? Because these 2 are Australian built and Australia stopped building cars like this in 2017 so they become an investment, history tells you that has been the case with the Holden's and Falcons built in the 1970s
🤣😂🤣 I was almost going to skip the video until I seen that you've got an AU up the back... now I'm going to have to subscribe and watch the videos 😂... if at some stage It comes to be that you've also got an AU ute sitting around somewhere with a blown diff I'd be beyond impressed 🤣... I mean I can understand all the love for the commodores I've got a mate with a VY SS manual myself and everytime I go for a drive with him it just confuses me how everything just works... like if you had an AU that had more than 1 hubcap on it and the central locking system and boot latch and power windows weren't fucked and the headlining wasn't sagging you'd have to sell it or give it away because what would be the point in owning one if everything worked properly and you weren't fixing things all the time 😂🤣😂😂😂
2020 bought a registered 2004 S2 VY SS auto ute for $1600 , 140xxxks , needed gearbox rebuilt n that all . Sold it for $12000 after 2.5 years of driving it
What would my 07 6.0l L98 Calais be worth guys? 138,000k on it. Owned by an embassy staff before me so very good cons no stupid mods done by me only the alpine head unit and 3" hurricane cat back but have all the original parts for it also. Or do you know the best fastest way to find its value?
For that price am surprised that one doesn't have low oil pressure. What did he just not know wt it was worth? It's manual annnd has leather that's a gem
