We live in Western Pa. and Have around 100 Acres of Land, About 1/2 is ours the rest is my moms, We have 4 kids and two grandchildren, 3 Golden Retrievers and one Cat. We enjoy working on our property and making improvements. We sell firewood and soon will be selling hardwood lumber.

If the smoke goes away after it warms up. That is valve seals. And if they're not too far gone about a quarter can of seafoam in the oil might just revive them to stop that.

Mike, I'm a firm believer in, if the seller is asking $400 for a product and it's worth $400 to me I never try to nickel and dime the seller for a couple of bucks. It's demeaning. I was already a fan of the show, now I'm a bigger fan. Bet the 81 yr old man was grateful.

@@haroldphipps3457 yeah, I just sold a vintage 1976 musical instrument for my listed price of $3500. In mint condition. I can't tell you the number of people that offered me $1000 calling me a crook. The guy that bought it didn't haggle 1 bit. He said he'd been looking for yrs and would have paid $4500. He showed up on time and walked away very happy. It's amazing to me the how disrespectful some people are.

This truck brings back many memories for me. My dad had a 74 Ford F600 with a 390 gas engine when I was growing up. It had a 14' dump bed. We made wooden side racks for hauling gravel and dirt. A set for hauling grain and also a set for hauling cattle. It was our go to truck. I saw it about 3 weeks ago hauling mulch from the local saw mill. Still going strong. Thanks for the video Mike.

I think I would go ahead and get it inspected and roadworthy if it wouldn’t take too many extra $. It will haul more than your trailer, you could save the haul bill on small loads and you could spread your own rock. Just my .02 Nice find!

That truck probably had a 330ci, or the 352ci engines. That 3208 in there now makes enough torque to break everything on that truck. That's a cool old piece.

You should bring it in to get it Inspected. I mean if it passes thats good. But if it doesnt Pass, Be something to work on as a project to Fix up in future. Could make that as a Goal if it didnt pass inspection. be if it takes 1 year or 3 years.

When you drove Old Blue up the hill at your place, there was a cloud of exhaust smoke following you, that's when I thought about Linus in the Peanuts cartoon series. Linus or Old Blue would be good names for Your New/Old Truck. Like you always say, "Have a Day!" I enjoy your videos immensely! Tell Archie Happy Birthday !!! Mike, you need to see if you can get a Farm truck tag for it. That would prevent you from paying the outrageous commercial insurance and tag prices. In North Carolina, forestry products are considered farm products and you can legally sell your products from the truck without a commercial tag. A huge difference in price for me in NC. When I sold my trucking business I kept 2 tractor-trailer trucks and I'm using them with a farm tag. You surely have enough land to qualify for a farm tag.

Most states also exclude farmers from the requirement of having a CDL, which now requires a 160 hour classroom portion to get the license. Dump truck insurance is very high due in part to a lot of the smaller companies running on a shoestring. Farm tags are the way to go. Only limitation is 150 miles from the farm and you can’t haul for anyone else. A win-win

@@Sventy11 In North Carolina we are allowed 150 miles. I believe I would check with the DOT and make sure. I know it's different from state to state but it does help with people like Mike who won't need a full-time truck.

Nice find Mike. Especially with the cat engine and air brakes. That old truck would dog for ever with a bit of help huh. Pretty neat sometimes to keep an old truck going. We’ve had our share of older trucks. I end up selling for newer but always look back at the joys of them really never letting me down to much with out new tech. Sweet old girl there. You’ll be happy with her for what she is.

Mike, We made the fuel system for Cat 3208's at Pontiac IL Cat plant. It is a great engine!

@@PatrickWagz Yep! But that's for the gas engines, which I thought is what Ol' Blue had at first... but that blue smoke seems pretty normal for a 3208... My dad worked for a fuel distributor and their trucks had 3208's in them, and they had the blue smoke also until they got warmed up. 👍👍👍

Actually, That’s a really nice dump truck given its age. My thoughts are it’s old diesel fuel that’s sat around a while and the injectors are somewhat clogged probably the cylinders are carboned up just from lack of use. Walmart makes a cheap injector cleaner ($1.58) which you could put in a few bottles in the tank which should clean it out. The smoke can’t be from a bad ring/oil seal/valve because once it’s at temperature the unit stops smoking. The bouncing speedometer is due to a broken cable who knows is still in place from the transmission to the dashboard, easy fix. The few other things to be street legal, you might want to consider then you can take up 79 to 422 and back that should be enough to loosen everything up and clean out the engine. Just my thoughts. Hope these gave something to consider and were helpful…Tom

Ha! I be durn. The timing is something else. I just purchased myself a 1976 Ford 600 dump truck fir $4k Saturday and brought it home. It's Red and has the 330 gas V8 5 speed in it. Class motor of the 360 & 390's. I'll have to take some pics and email them to you. This just made my day! "Ole Red" is what I named her 👍👍👍👍!

In a prior life, I worked for U-Haul as a truck mechanic. At the time, the "pride of the fleet" was a 1974 Ford F-600 with a 359 Heavy Duty engine and a "bulldog" four-speed manual transmission. Easy to work on, to be sure. Some of the parts may be harder to find now than they were in 1986, but still... I was confused for a moment when you came over the hill. Yes, it's a '74 cab, but the grille looks like the prior generation ('67-'72).

You need 1oz of a tcw3 low ash!!! Walmart 2 stroke oil per gallon… 128:1!!! Because diesel is low sulfur your injection system needs the lube! Alternate with 1oz per gallon of mystery oil!!! Buy the gallons!!!

Some of these old trucks are better than new ones!! My dad was and excavator/landscaper bought an old truck I went with him to the big city of Richmond VA to get dump bed installed. I was 6 or 7 that truck worked many years in his business!! I think Old Blue is a good name. BTW it was a Chevy i'm a Chevy man but open to all brands of vehicles!! Donald the Dumper.... that's what I would call the beast. BTW, keep any and ALL water out of the fuel system on a 3208. Sleeve Metering fuel pumps really hate water. Check to see if a fuel water separator was installed if this was a re-power. May have been missed. Some 3208's for on-highway use were shipped with one mounted onto/over one of the valve covers. Most likely your on-the-land use will also have a considerable amount of parked time for the vehicle. I have seen 3208's parked with water in the fuel injection pump and surface rust preventing the engine from starting as the sleeves or levers stuck with surface rust. Point to remember, there is only fuel in the Sleeve Metering Injection pump, no lube oil as on some other CAT fuel systems. 42 years with Caterpillar... don't know everything, do know something.

Just wanted to let ya know that my dad had that same year truck way back when I was a kid , learned to drive on that and an old 59 Studebaker 5 ton , so much fun when the clutch would go through the floor on ya . LOL the ford was named BETSY BLUE OR ON A BAD DAY DAD WOULD CALL HER BLUE BETS . what a great bunch of memory's that brought back . have to tell ya in order to go get my drivers licence my dad made me get that truck out of a very tight spot on a slope where it was parked between two huge trees . It took me just 5 min . my uncle told me years later it took dad about 30 min to put it in that spot . thanks for the awesome memories . and good luck with your new blue lady . maybe call her Betsy , dad would have loved that .Betsy was a WW2 airplane that he flew out on the pacific.

As a kid my Father bought an old 65 Ford 6' step side truck in 1971, he paid $100. Had no brakes, bad tires. We were remodeling everything about the house. It was a city truck, extra heavy duty suspension, even had 120V outlet attached to alternator. It leak a bit, nothing serious but enough to make it stinky. We called it Big G, short for Greaser. He used the snot of it. Owned it for two years and sold it and made money off the deal. -Brad

“Old Blue “ , the color of the truck and the exhaust! 😂Bought a 90s Case 1845 skid loader, Cummins diesel with fresh oil change?.Ran good at first, after about 35 hrs. it started to smoke and got worse and run rough and then started missing. The oil started to look crappy, additive??? Drained and flushed the crankcase with diesel fuel, that cleaned the shit out of the pan. Ole Blue is nice, but how about something more descriptive … Dumper Blue comes to mind. Love the truck… them old 700’s were one tough truck! Personally I’d make it road worthy for those trips to the stone quarry. It’s pre EPA so you’d rolling coal and hauling stone.

Big Blue because Nelson Ridge has Old Blue. It's the wrong brand but, it's better looking. How about Blue Bell rays Carol. Maybe blue cat for the 3208.

Does that one have air or hydraulic brakes? Does it require a CDL for highway use? Nice Truck! If you follow the KISS principle, “Old Blue “ would seem appropriate. Catford is another idea.

All the old girl needs is a little TLC weld the cracks up be fine I still have my grandfather's international dump truck 1974 gas. 3208 always smoked like that until thy get warmed up in cold weather.

Noticed that you were using the red dyed off road fuel. I use only on road diesel here on the farm because it is really a lot cheaper in the long haul. Our local station only sells off road diesel for about $.45 a gallon cheaper than the on road diesel Since the tax here in Pa. is $.74 a gallon, that means that if I use off road diesel, I am actually paying about $.29 more per gallon that I should be. I just save my slips and at the end of the year, I file a form with the state and get a refund for all of the PA. tax I paid.

Just picked up 87 f800 33,000 gvw air brakes from original owner garage kept cant believe i got it for 2,000 made a video on it as well. he has a f700 that was comparable he only wanted 1,000 for i was planning on buying as well but it sold before i could get to pick it up

Years ago I worked in the shop and I wanted to do a little hauling on the side to make a few bucks. I found a 1965 International loadstar 1890 D that had a 6v-53 detroit engine for 400.00. It needed a little fixing and I got it all fixed up and then found out the license was 300.00 per year but the real killer was the insurance. The only company that would insure it was progressive and the insurance was over $2000.00 per year just for liability. I decided I really couldnt work in the shop and have enough time to make any money after the cost of license and insurance so I sold it.
