My 1988 Ford F700 has been a lot of work, but it is finally on the road making some money. I do this work on the side to help pay for this truck and other equipment around the farm. This truck and the dump trailer both have a different purpose for me. Which would you prefer? Please leave your thoughts in the comments and subscribe for more videos from around the farm!

Would like to see a video of going through the gears and driving without music. Lets hear what the truck has to say.

I would have liked to have seen all those people that love dump trailers get into that spot you dumped at.

$100 take home or gross income? With diesel fuel at $5.50 per gallon or so, and the truck gets maybe 5 miles per gallon, then that $100 will give you maybe 70 miles of range, so hopefully where you live, the pickup point and the drop-off point are close to each other. Then there's insurance, cost of buying and maintaining an old commercial truck, and don't forget about 30% or more goes to taxes anyways, so how many loads per day do you have to do to break even, let alone turn a profit?

Hey, thanks for your comment. You really got to have a positive mindset to run a business. $100 was net on this load (I charged $150). The material came from my house, and was hauled only 18 miles. This truck averages 10mpg on a bad day. I’ve seen 12 out of it which is pretty sad given it’s age the newer ones are worse. Of course this video is a little dated, fuel wasn’t that high at the time. I’m now charging about $180 for the SA truck and $350 for the TA truck. I don’t deliver outside of about 35mi, I stay super local. This truck pays for every piece of equipment on the farm so it definitely drives value. Regarding taxes - everything with taxes is planning, with the right assets at the right time the write offs are pretty beneficial. When you own your own business and equipment, there are lots of tax incentives to take advantage of.

I’ve pretty much already picked through this truck too. It’s got a rebuilt rear end, transmission, and a used 80k motor. All new tires and brakes all the way around. I don’t expect anymore major repair bills for quite a long time. But you’re not wrong - I’ve got 15k total into this truck. But remember, fill dirt isn’t the only thing a haul. My screened topsoil is a more commoditized product and the loads sell for a lot more. As is true also for my compost. To me, fill dirt is just a waste product. I also pickup a lot of landscape gravel and specialized gravel hauls where there are restricted heights or bridges where big trucks cannot get for final delivery. This truck paid for my tractor.

Thanks for sharing the ride. If you can share,what's the insurance cost for your truck? Asking bcz I'm mulling over buying the same truck,except it's an automatic. And how does the truck do pulling the skid loader? Thanks👊✌
@RockyBottomAcres
@RockyBottomAcres Год назад
Hey, sorry I missed this. I pay about $1200/year for full coverage. I also have a liability policy as well that’s additional to the truck but it gets included in with my skid loader/excavator insurance.

Hi, just wondering how the ford f700 dump truck is doing ? Looking for an update as I'm interested in buying one myself. Thanks.

Does that truck require a special license of any sorts?
@RockyBottomAcres
@RockyBottomAcres 3 года назад
No it’s under 26,000 lbs so it does not require a CDL. DOT gets involved over 10,000 lbs so there are some DOT regulations on this such as a physical (sometimes required) and having to have a fire extinguisher and some other things onboard. But in terms of an actual license, this truck is right in the sweet spot of being under 26,000.
@rp1645
@rp1645 2 года назад
@@RockyBottomAcres YES the 26000 pound rule. Plus the AIR brake thing, if a person gets into it more in depth. The DOT officer Look at the Trucks, that's were guys get in to trouble. If the Dump looks clean, has the safety stuff, your OK. Like how you compare costs. Heard a lot of comments about people rather using a dump trainer. A Dump truck can back into spots to dump so much better, especially on ruff grind at dump sites. Small footprints to back into.

@evansautomotive307 2 года назад
@@rp1645 you can have air brakes without a cdl if your truck is under 26k gvw. I thought if you had air brakes you needed a cdl too, but i looked it up and you dont

New sub here. Where are you located? My dad had a truck like yours he started our business with. We have a quad axle and a quint. Buying another single axle because we can’t get in these real small places lol. We are in Hampstead,NC right at the beach so it will be nice to have something small to deliver to the island.

I’m located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Yes, many of my deliveries nothing bigger than a tandem would fit. This is a pretty common occurrence.

Always park your truck with the 2 speed in low. Start out in 2L, split gears going up. Use 1st gear for slow manuevering, tailgating stone, or crossing rough ground. Get your windshield washer working, because DOT often checks for operation or how full. If it doesn't work, citation.
@RockyBottomAcres
@RockyBottomAcres 2 года назад
Thanks for the comment. I did fix the washer :) I drive this truck in high, my gear ratio in high will run that truck with 8t without even requiring low. Even first in high only goes a few mph so I tailgate with that. Since the truck is legal around 6, really no reason for me to use low unless I’m in soft ground then I do use it.

Should be $350 a load your crazy 🤪
@RockyBottomAcres

These are 6yd loads in this. I’d love to get $60/yd for it but it’s fill dirt. Rocky clay dirt. I get $350 for a tandem load. I do, however, get $300 for top soil loads and $550 for tandem top soil loads. But the dirt is this video is just fill.

$100 per load $80 in fuel😁
@RockyBottomAcres
@RockyBottomAcres Год назад
This video was from summer of of 2021. After what I charged the customer, $100 was my net not my gross. That’s after fuel was paid for. And this truck typically gets 8-10 mpg loaded. The fuel burn for the distance was 4-5 gallons at most round trip. It would still be profitable at todays fuel prices. That truck nets over $100/hr.
