Amazing find. Who would have thought a rusting GU is hiding a "good as new" engine inside. Was this a coast vehicle? If it is, this GU should serve as a warning to those who like to drive their rigs over salt water. Another enjoyable video. 👍
Exciting times ahead for GQ. That GU with that much underbody rust must have done a lot of beach work during its time. You lucked out with that engine. What a find.👌 I'm planning to go to the National 4X4 Outdoors Show, I'll drop by and say hello. 👍
Looks very good behind the pump but be aware that the backing plate can commonly corrode badly in the water passage area sealed with 2 o rings, especially if coolant concentrate is low. It's a massive job to replace the plate, and not cheap either. But if the engine is out....might be worth considering pulling the front cover, which prolly has been replaced at some time. Looks too good to be original. Hopefully they did the backing plate too...
What an excellent motor , hope you're going to rebuild the other one over time 😊 I've just got my GQ TD42t back after 3 months from when a young P plater ran into it out front of my place and my Old one is about to come home to start a rebuild ❤
WOW, what a bargain that thing will give reliable service for a looong time. . . Can't beat a TD I reckon so much low down torque prefect for idling up whatever obstacles in the bush, simpe and reliable too 👍👍
Well done TT, another great video all done for the compulsory Sunday morning video with Maccas breakfast session. While you're out doing a purchase of parts have a look at 1.or 2 of these lights from Bunnings which are for $50 incredible!! The LEDs are bright as f**k and the whole thing is very portable so not only can you use it during the engine breakdown...but you can also take it with you on your trips as will benefit your video stuff at night by lighting up the entire camp site. Also they use hardly any power whatsoever as during work in a shed we had one connected to a battery which stayed continuously on for over 8 days without the battery going flat. ALSO...there is another one of these as just the light itself which is rechargeable which is perfect to take out four-wheel driving and used as a work light while doing repairing, tyre change and other mechanical stuff on the track. Thought I would throw this in with my weekly 'product advice' in the comment section.. 😁 Cheers guys/gal 👍 www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-2-x-20w-3200lm-led-worklight-with-tripod_p0206011 www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-30w-2100lm-rechargeable-led-work-light_p0095368 PS... Don't forget the mandatory weather report at the start of each filming so we know what the actual conditions are for not just Aussies,.but also others watching around the world such as the poor bastards in Canada freezing their arses off watching you continuously filming at 30° 👍
It's all happening in the shed at King Creek! 😎 Nothing like replacing your old worn out kettle with a near new one! 😂 Bloody good find for the dollars. 👍
Love the teamwork of everyone together. You make it look so easy! The 'new' engine looks healthy. Hope he gives you many kilometers of adventures and touring!

Funnily enough, that's pretty much what it takes to remove a patrol engine and g/box in a professional manner to repair for a customer! Nissan really didn't think the 'repairable process' out when they designed them, especially the bloody ZD30! 🤦I mean every manufacturer has their crap designs but it's almost like Nissan go that extra step each time to make that little bit more difficult.
glad to see your staying true to the patrol life. hope i get my new motor breathing soon. just don't do to much to demies crusier or she will be showing us up.
Only way to go with a gq put a factory turbo gu one in it thats what I'd do too if mine ever went bang 👌👌👌 keen to see your cape trip !!!!! And hey spare back diff centre holley grail of hard things to get these days
Good work, guessing it'll need engineering? Will in Tassie as I found out, costing over 1k to satisfy our illogical Transport Inspectors! GQs did come as turbo TDs, some factory tho rare, but many dealer fitted too, eg. Safari.
Your Dads place looks like a Nissan Graveyard Tyler I thought you would have painted the block Rose Gold give it a bit more bling and the rocket cover black 😊❤ cheers legends ☺️
I have a question, in Australia theres a lot of bir 4x4 but, is there smaller 4x4 (apart from the jimmnys) like Suzuki ingnis 4x4, fiat panda 4x4, Renault kangaroo 4x4 etc...?
Best thing with Nick is a true TD hero, none of this Barra or yank swap crap, TD all the way. Nissan might not be my #1 but keep it Nissan, keep it Toyota, none of this hybrid mutated bs. Appreciate that in the Shauno Wale mk2 younger better looking version, always hilarious as well, but keeping it real keeping it OG best of the best! Now Tyler ya just need to TD the big GU petrol, btw when is ya Dad goons see the light and get into a 80s choke choke I mean GU TD also, be mean to see him in a SWB GU, find 2.8 TD and engine swap out out the TD 4.2 that way get a good one cheap, t hey go well though those 2.8 (not my first choice if went Nissan, but still a good way to get a cheap GU and build from there eh! Look forward to the next episode cheers team, keep doing what ya doing, ps I thought the Silver top may have lasted a little longer though, remember when ya built it, I wondered how long she’d last under that new snail you boys put on at the time, though I suspect it’s mostly the pink rocker cover that put the biggest strain on the might ST. It’s called a silver top for a reason not a link top, sheesh Wayne, people will run any color these days, also I like my blocks silver cause the. Ya can easily spit where oil leaks come from and we know Nissans love a leak now and again, last dig, look forward to the Cale trip should be epic, are ya taking all 3 Wagoons, Demi in the 80s, you in the GQ, ya Dad in the GU petrol and Nick, does he ever drive his GQ btw, he’s always working on others trucks. Imagine though what he would be like in convoy to the Cape, like travelling on crack on the GME, make the PDA go quicker, though, also handy when something goes wrong🤘🤪Cheers
