Well, well, well… Looks like I was able to get this after so long! I hope you all enjoyed my video! And after doing this video, it made me want to make more videos on this kind of stuff. So expect stuff about Polaroid, vinyl, and more cassettes!
I had a few different tape decks through out the 80s and made many mixtapes for specific moods and always had mine on when walking to from school on trips and at the arcades too. Great way back machine video sir. 😅
Nice job on the repair. Great video, with such high production quality. PS. Interesting to hear a younger person's view on them, rather than someone old enough to have been around when Walkmans were new.
These old devices fascinate me, and honestly it's kind of sad to just abandon them instead of bringing life into them. I find the process of picking out music from a music catalogue like vinyl or cassettes, and go through the process of getting it to play really engaging. Obviously the technology we have now is superior since we get to have an infinite music catalogue at the touch of our fingertips. But, there's something more satisfying in listening to analogue sound. I tend to listen to the entirety of an album physically than digitally.
Bro I want one so bad. I'm willing to get the WM3 instead, but the TPSL2 is the one I want. For a decent condition one, I'm basically spend my weeks worth of pay for the TPSL2 alone, not to mention the price of the MDR3 headphones to make is model correct. But, notion can beat the tacticle feel or the 80s aesthetic, which is literally my style and music/car taste too. Good video, lowk didn't expect a kid my age to be interested in this stuff too lmao
Hey glad to see someone else interested in this stuff in our age range too. I spent weeks trying to track down one at an “affordable” price considering most prices are 800-1000 bucks. Took a while but I was finally able to get one and I bet you’ll find a good price on one too
I have the 1st gen TPSL2. The "Guys & Dolls" model. It's one of my most prized possessions. I was a 93 baby. I grew up with Walkmen . And recently got into cassette collecting.
Dude that’s awesome! Yeah, this Walkman is definitely one my prized possessions as well. Just the experience I had in getting it, fixing it, and then finally hearing it play something, was great
How many of those TPS - L2 went to the Rubbish Tip when the Drive Belts had failed? I bought mine in 1979, with two pairs of Headphones. I was really impressed with the sound quality, and the features. I used it for a couple of years, and then removed the batteries and stored it away in a clear sealed bag. Being over 70 years old now, I have just realised that the TPS - L2 is in big demand. I had cause to change the Drive Belts just once, and was very careful. But not difficult to do. I tried the Walkman a couple of years ago, and the capstans didn't turn. Clearly, mine needs another set of Drive Belts to make functional again. Sony have all of the Tooling, drawings etc......They could easily produce this same model again. Greetings from Australia.
I’ve been thinking on getting the TPS-L2 (2nd generation) of course getting the awesome Sony Walkman WM-D6C which can play all different types of cassette and has a lot features. For me I always wanted to get those two Walkmans but hard to get due to how really expensive it is when buying online. But overall in the end it’ll be worth it getting those two on my own for sure. P.S. I Love you’re video review on the iconic TPS-L2 Blue Walkman by the way, very beautiful to look at. 👌❤️🤟
Yeah that’s a pretty cool feature in including two headphone jacks. Sure, today you could just take one earphone and give it to your friend, but it’s definitely cooler to do it the way Sony did. Interestingly however, is that Sony didn’t really continue using double headphone jacks except with a few models down the line like the Sony WM-2
This was an awesome video I hope you are still enjoying your Walkman I have the WM-F2015 its a later one but just as good since I refurbished it maybe one day ill buy the first one
You have to understand Sony didn’t just randomly make a new digital Walkman. They’ve been making digital Walkman players for over decade or so, the one you mentioned was just a continuation of it and the brand. Despite what people might claim there is little to no market for making a cassette player, plus most of the tooling required is no longer available to manufacture them.
I am well aware of Sony’s Walkman brand. It was just a lil’ joke I put in the video, since a lot of people I know were expecting for Sony to make an actual comeback cassette player.
I am in the market for a walkman just like yours! but id do not know what a good price is for one like that. and I am also wondering where you got yours from. love your videos and hope you post more in the upcoming future!
not only the Sony walkman was featured in guardians of the galaxy but it was featured in season 4 episode 4 of stranger things and the last of us TV show.
I’ve got more coming too, it’s just that I’ve been so busy as of late. I would love to make more videos on analog tech, I recently got a prototype Walkman and I’m thinking of making a video on it so we’ll see how that goes!
@@MauricioJara That sounds super cool wtf! I've collected some models of old walkmans and i want to restore them if possible but am anxious about it (because i don't want to damage it beyond repair ahah) so i could relate to the stress of this video. Really interesting to me learning about analog tech and seeing like-minded people get the same level of excited about it!
I have one, still have my original in the original box (though I wore out the headphones and it is in 'B' condition)! Got it for my birthday in 1982, was my prized possession. Never went anywhere without it and a stack of tapes. Still have it and it still plays tapes, but it has a weird phasing thing going on with the sound. I have some new belts, maybe one of these days I'll fix it up.
As a kid i wanted a dd2, walking in town with my mom seeing one in store window she walked in asking for the price, she took my hand and we walked out of the store ..
hi i've been watching your videos about all these techs because they really amaze me, but what i really want to have is a sony walkman wm-41, it was the same model my late grandmama had and that's left of her, but it was stolen, and now i can't afford because refurbished walkmans are very expensive in our country. and i wish i had a dad too :< -your avid viewer from the Philippines!
Oh man, that really sucks to hear. We’ve had stuff stolen that belonged to my grandpa who sadly passed away a few years back. I wish you luck in finding another one like it. Don’t worry, you’ll get one eventually
hey! i know you haven’t uploaded in a few months, but i found your channel from your “i bought a walkman!” video, and i was curious if you’ll ever make a video about your cassette tape collection? i’d love to see who you have! 😃
I’ve been busy lately, but I’ve got some more videos related to analog tech such as cassettes planned! There’s only one thing that stands in my way when I’m not busy. Procrastination 😭😭😭
@@MauricioJara haha! i get that. but tell Procrastination you got homies online that wanna see! 😆 kidding, no rush! I subscribed so i’ll see ya when you have some time! thanks for replying and have a great day! 😎
I've been trying myself to get into walkmans and i'm very interested in this perticular model and I wonder where you got it from? I know there is some good options of broken ones on ebay i could buy and fix myself but i'm afraid i'll buy a more damaged than just the belt and not being able to fix it.
Off of Mercari for $400 (which is really cheap when compared to the usual prices of $700-$1000 of this model). It took me months and months of browsing to find it at a cheap yet good condition
Ok I’m gonna get Hate for this But The Sony Walkman Tps-l2 doesn’t actually have a Back belt clip on the back in guardians of the galaxy the Walkman that starlord used has to put a black belt clip holder to hold his Walkman while putting it on his hip
A prop that was a replica of the TPS-L2. It’s like saying the Pulse Rifle from Alien isn’t a Pulse Rigle but it’s a prop. Of course it’s a prop, but in the story it’s the TPS-L2
I got it off of Mercari. It took me forever to find one as low as $400, but that's because it wasn't working. Best of luck to you man in finding one that's in the "cheaper" price spectrum.
@@MauricioJara the original one when you bought your first walkman. That was about the time I decided to buy one and now I've got my own collection and have been buying and repairing old tech for a while now
Hello Mauricio! I have recently gotten lucky and gotten a sony walkman wm f-35 for very cheap!! It’s in mint condition outside and inside except i need to switch belts. I was wandering if you could tell me if i have to do soldering work inside to open it? If so, i will not try to change belts. I would really appreciate it if i could get an answer. Great video by the way!
For most walkmans, you can simply open it up, without having to solder anything off or back into place, such as with this model when it comes to replacing belts. However, I’m not too familiar with the WM-F35. You could use a mixture of videos. Like this one: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--1zqV4JA7zw.html (However he does rip the wire out and resolders it whilst in the 2nd vid I send, that guy doesn’t) and this one: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BA6qxgBE41Y.html
@@MauricioJara i’ll check out the videos and do my best. Thank you so much for the quick response!

I applied a “Highpass” filter to that audio segment. Depending on your editing software, it may or may not have a different name. If it does, you could search up tutorials on how to make a radio effect. Cheers!
Hey! I recently bought a sony tcm 600,and after a bit of use, the belts got cut, and after I put in a replacement belt, the same thing happened to me, it started eating the tape, did you fix it by just swapping the belt or is there something else? Thanks in advance!
No, I unfortunately don’t. I got my Walkmans by really just waiting for a good price to drop for those models on eBay, or any other websites like that.
Hey, I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, I was wondering if you by any chance know how to burn CDs, I want to make a cd for my gf but I can’t seem to do so. Help?
Hmmm... CDs definitely isn't something I'm familiar with in terms of burning CDs. This tutorial could help you though! www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000175494/how-to-burn-a-cd-dvd-or-blu-ray-disc-with-windows-media-player#:~:text=Open%20the%20disc%20drive%2C%20insert,drive%20you%20want%20to%20use. Sorry that I wasn't fully able to answer your question, I hope this helps!
I bought mine off of Mercari years ago. Any site where people sell antiques like eBay or OfferUp. You just gotta keep on searching till one day you come across a good deal. Good luck searching, man :)
