Yeah, I am not a fan of touch screens on laptops and I am less a fan of those who touch my screen!
@858Markus
@858Markus 2 месяца назад
I agree. On convertibles and 2 in 1 laptops a touchscreen is great. On a normal laptop...well I don´t see the need for a touchscreen. Makes no sense. Mouse, keyboard, trackpad...
@boneappletee6416
@boneappletee6416 2 месяца назад
@@858Markus Same. My laptop is connected to a USB-C dock most of the time, so it would be out of reach and awkward to use a touchscreen
@malexander6367
@malexander6367 2 месяца назад
@@858MarkusNaah, for me, it's not convertibles and non convertibles. I differentiate by screen size. 13 Inch: Sits relatively close to me and using the touch screen feels intuitive and useful in certain situations. 15+ Inch: Too far away, don't need it. That being said: I almost always prefer a laptop with a touch screen anyways. The whole screen assembly tends to be more durable and easier to clean due to the glass and I can do stuff like sign documents or hand annotate stuff when I need to.
@spdcrzy
@spdcrzy 7 дней назад
@@malexander6367 fuuuuuuck that. If I need a touch input, I'm using a tablet or a phone. That's what they're made for. Some screens are meant to be seen, not touched.

Just finished installing everything yesterday on mine (batch 5)! Coming from a Lenovo x240 and 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch this device is an absolute godsend for me and I’m so happy a company finally made a laptop like this!

The speakers are actually side-firing, not top firing. What you're showing is actually the top intakes for the fans. As for the magic Apple uses to get crazy battery life, the magic comes from using ARM as the architecture rather than x86-64.
@LordApophis100
@LordApophis100 2 месяца назад
The ISA is less important than the microarchitecture. Also Apple can do a lot of vertical integration and OS optimization. Having all on one SoC, and a wide array of dedicated function blocks helps a lot with power efficiency.
@TechieZeddie
@TechieZeddie 2 месяца назад
@@LordApophis100 You can only do so much though. Can confirm as a previous owner a an x86-based MacBook Pro. Battery life is very good considering the hardware, but once Apple switched over to their own silicon, it was a dramatic uplift in battery life across the board. However, I'm more of a PC and Android gal myself, so the AMD 7040 series is the best we've got in terms of efficiency (FW13 and FW16).
@LordApophis100
@LordApophis100 2 месяца назад
@@TechieZeddie The CISC vs RISC debate concluded 2 decades ago. All modern CPUs internally are RISC and decode their ISA to micro ops. The ISA does not have that much impact on the CPU as people think. AMD uses one microarchitecture across all products. Zen is designed around high end desktop and servers, then scaled down for mobile. If they did a dedicated design just for mobile, they could get around Apple Silicon efficiency. But they would also have to have the same control of the OS to really match it. Similarly, Apple just can’t scale their mobile first CPU up. M3 in a Mac Pro performs about the same as in a MacBook Pro.
@LawlessNate
@LawlessNate 2 месяца назад
No, Apple makes every component in their laptops and can therefore design every aspect of the hardware to maximize battery life. Also, they tailor even the operating system to the hardware, which further helps this. This ARM vs. X86 power efficiency thing is an oversimplification of people who don't understand computer hardware. x86 chips can be power efficient just as ARM chips can have lots of performance.

typing from framework 13 11th gen: I've had some issues early on that I probably wouldn't have had with another laptop, but I'm really excited by the ability to BYO parts to reduce upfront cost (no extra $200 for a 1 TB hard drive or extra extra $200 to get 16 GB soldered on RAM instead of 8 GB) and the ability to upgrade the mainboard instead of tossing the laptop Sick bayside shirt

Every OS has it´s pros and cons. Windows is user friendly even for a monkey. Plug and play with broad software and hardware support. Linux distros are great if you grew up with DOS, and don´t have a problem with the terminal. And it can run on a toaster. Never used MacOS, but I think that it is also a really good OS. Never understood the hate towards any system. It is always great to have the possibility of choosing what fits best to ones needs.

Lots of companies have launched "upgradeable" laptops only to stop producing the module after 2 generations... Maybe Framework will be different but unless you can get a module for e.g. the RTX 6070M or whatever in a few years time this is just a waste of money. You're buying an idea, a great idea - but if you just need a great laptop instead...

Beautiful laptop, love the idea. Wanted to buy one....but they don´t ship to my country, and I am not a fan of third party shipping. And buying it thru my business is momentarily impossible. It is true that for the money you can buy a different beast. So I did buy a ASUS Rog Strix G16 with the intel i9 13980HX and the RTX 4080. It is a monster of a laptop performance vise. I use it as a workstation and for gaming. This one will last me for five years, and the Legion 5 2020 is going to my son, as it is in excellent condition (always care for my stuff, take it apart and clean, repaste it etc.) But after that I hope that Framework will be an established brand, and maybe my next laptop will be a Framework. Always built my desktops for the past 25 years. And the idea to build a laptop like desktop is genius. To be able to change or upgrade only the parts I need. I wish Framework all the luck to pull thru.

You only left out the discussion about how much more or less it costs, when you upgrade the product. I was the most curious about the upgrade path and possible costs. Because yeah, as a one time investment it's not cheap. But how about with the upgrade costs? 1 upgrade will cost less then investing into a new laptop? Why you left it out? Did you forgot about it? :)

I so want one.. but currently they don't ship to Europe. I do hope the expansion module can be used with additional battery. and with my aging eyes.. 16+ is the miminum screen size.. really happy to hear about its screen accuracy. (do hope for more options like mini-led which should save batter a bit more). overall want one, but can't get one till they expand to Europe. Also another point if you upgrade the motherboard they have .stl files for cases to reuse the motherboard in other projects which shows how reuse orientied they are.

Well NASCompares had a rep on for like 1 hr 7-10 days ago and he said it would VOID your warranty. Unless there was such an uproar in the last 5 days because of that. Most people comments I saw after that and others who knew after that just stopped watching vids on their NAS. Otherwise sounds like an EXCELLENT product. However, maybe a warranty doesn’t matter to you. Chances I assume would be under 5%, hopefully under 1%. I also heard from a post that they have been selling MAS’s in China for 1-2 years. If true then they do know what they are doing hardware wise. But then, why the Kickstarter?
