This is great advice. I am nearly scratch and I carry a chipper in my bag. I use it mainly to advance the ball out of the woods or bad lies after a bad drive. I don't mind breaking a cheap chipper but don't want to break an iron out of a rocky or rooty lie. These chippers are also very good for tight lies where my goal is to just get the clubhead on the ball and get out of trouble. I see many golfers carry 4 wedges; they'd be better off leaving one of them at home and replacing it with a chipper.

You build a bag around the game you play or the course you play. If that means you use a 5 or 7 wood, a set of hybrid irons, a 70 deg wedge or a chipper then so be it.
@leighlin007
@leighlin007 2 года назад
These clubs are more versatile than what is shown in this video. Where these clubs really excel is from the rough and semi-rough around the green area. The extra head weight easily drives through the grass and I can guarantee you will save shots using one of these chippers. But a lot of people won't buy/use one as they are too proud to have one in the bag. I'm a 12 handicapper and one of the reasons I play to that handicap is because after struggling with wedges and lost strokes, plus countless hours of practice with wedges, I picked up a 37 degree Spalding chipper and within a few hours of practice am already saving shots over 18 holes. Why make the game harder when it can be easier and MUCH more fun and less frustrating when you chip another one close, or at least onto the green. For the record I use a 37 degree Spalding chipper and using one of these for me is a no-brainer.

Buy it left handed (or right handed if you are a lefty). It is such an AMAZING tool for those punch out shots and shots and are awkward in your normal stance. You won't regret it.

I choke down my 7 wood to do essentially the same thing. I do realize the lie angle is a bit different and the chipper is more upright as is a putter and shorter. The 7 wood works great and the ball gets slightly airborne and just rolls out as a putt. Really simple...

I've got a 55 degree mazel square strike knock off in the bag and I love it for when I'm feeling a bit yippy with my wedges. Where I play I've got a creek in front of the green on the 2nd hole and I use it all the time for getting over that. That 2nd hole is also 500+ yards, dog leg right, has a pond, trees, stone wall, clubhouse, nightmares.

Im also not in a golf rich region of America so they arent always trying to get rid of their stuff all the time. I love your model of finding and fitting clubs to a golfer without spending a ton. I have a very old chipper, unbranded, and I like it a lot. It has horizontal grooves and can even spin the ball a little. I use it 50 yards and in. But I struggle to get it any farther than that consistently. Would you recommend upgrading to the odyssey? Thats what im considering. Would it potentially spin more than an old unbranded one considering the odyssey face? Would the odyssey insert allow it to be hotter, maybe making it easier to go longer with it, potentially? Would a new Amazon chipper from say, Mazel or pinemeadow, perform just as well for less money? Unfortunately there is no opportunity to try them. So I'm trying to have some info before I spend almost $100 Thanks!

I bought one of these about 10 rounds ago. I'm so much better around the greens it's ridiculous. Yes, it's one dimensional, but it's a dimension that most golfers will benefit from putting it in their bags. Take out a wood or long iron. This will help you much more. It's never coming out of the bag. My buddies can laugh at me all they want as I kick their asses with it. LOL

I had the hands of a sturgeon when it can to chipping. One chip two putt. No strike constancy, low shots., limited distance control and the likes. Bought a cleveland chipper and used it for every short game shot for most of a season. The remainder of the year my chipping improved greatly and now seasons later short game is one of my strengths and I save a number of strokes per round. Don't make it harder because the game is hard already. Give it a try because you won't improve your short game execution with a $700 driver.

Having now watched the whole vlog, I am wondering why you are using this club for when the ball is less than a foot off the green and in still nicely cut dense lawn !? For me, in this instance, the Putter is the right club. I tend to use my chipper putter from 10 yards to 2 yards off the green or when I really do need to chip over something.

Its not a training aid. It's just like a specialist 60 degree in a way. It's specifically designed to do a certain job on the golf course. The lie and design of the club is like no other. You just can't bring the technique for a chipper across to your wedges. They are poles apart. If you have chipping issues and you have room in the bag then why not give one a go? It could make golf much more fun. And spend as much as you like.

This is a good example of the ignorance surrounding these things. They save a few shots from the fairway or fringe but as you say most people can play a simple bump and run. Where they really save shots is from rough around the green, mud, tight lies and all those awkward shots where people constantly duff their wedges.
