Cool Car!!! I keep going back and forth between a 96 Buick Park Ave ultra and a town car. In Colorado can you register it as a classic car if it’s 25+ years old. I have a 97’ Lexus Land Cruiser registered as a classic in Texas. It would be so funny to have a video of you chauffeuring the TFL guys ( Roman, Andre, Nathan and Tommy) to Casa Bonita in the Town car. I would greatly appreciate a Casa Bonita TFL review 🤙
@SunnynPhilly I have had both and the Park Ave feels faster but the Town Car is a more comfortable ride. It just depends on what you want most. Both are a good choice.
Your trunk lock will not open with the ignition key, which is what you were trying to do. You should have gotten 2 keys with this Town car, but it seems you didn't. Until you get a new key made for your trunk lock you will need to use the inside release button. I'm not sure how you couldn't feel that the tumblers were wrong for the key you were using and the size of the ignition key was too big for the lock. Anyway, enjoy that Towncar, my BF and I are restifying a 96 Continental Diamond Anniversary edition. It has the same motor and a very similar interior. The 1996 Lincoln Continentals (all the years that body style) seem to be a fairly rare car now. Google them, they are so wicked looking. I know the one my BF has, in our experience, is the only one we've ever seen. That's his car, I drive a 99 Lincoln Navigator 4x4. Lincolns rock.
@@brendanaoI had a 1992 Buck Park Avenue Ultra and that thing was fast. That supercharger worked great. The interior on that lovely ride was so, so comfortable. I think I could have lived in that beast if I had to..I no longer have it and I do miss it. My one and only Buick and it made me a Buick fan.
@@lonwaslien104 Because 99.9% of normal people's daily commute isn't a road course and new cars are idiotically made to pull numbers in a magazine article. In the meantime, none of them ride down the road like a cloud like these big body on frame cars did.
I love my 93 Signature Jack Nicklus Edition! I Paid $500 for it over 5 1/2 years ago, and have put 32k miles on it since I bought it. Reliable, cheap to repair, comfortable, great car! It's not in the best condition, but for $500, I can't complain.
I owned a 95 Town Car and really miss it. I have drove lots of these new vehicles and never have found that comfort in anything. I wish they would build a true luxury car again
I am German and I admit I have a bias towards German vehicles and since coming to the US I have driven them exclusively. My wife's aunt passed away and left her a very similar vehicle. We flew from Milwaukee Wisconsin to Flagstaff Arizona to pick it up and drive it home. Although it was almost fifteen years old it didn't even have 30K miles. It was in near-showroom condition and prior to driving it back we had a complete inspection done at the local Lincoln/Mercury dealership and the only things it needed were a new battery and tires. I was prepared to criticize the driving experience but in reality it was it was an outstanding Highway Cruiser. It was incredibly comfortable and quiet smooth riding and climate control shrugged off the 110 degree temperatures. It would cruise that 80 mph in almost complete silence and got 24 miles per gallon. I thought we'd sell it when we got home but we still have it all these years later and we use it as a summer Cruiser
Ah yes, glad you got to drive one n see why these are preferred to anything else sold then n today.. Your comment is written in gold for those who say they prefer a Lexus..lol You being German n not only liking this car but actually keeping it will give them haters a stroke..
These ARE the best cars Ford ever made, Had a 99 Grand Marquis, and adored it. Drove a 1997 LTC Cartier once, I still have never driven a better riding car.
I remember driving the Town Car and the Fleetwood back in the 90s. Beautiful cars with floaty ride. Great highway cruisers. Automobile journalists are partly to blame for the end of these sort of cars. They taught people to hate these cars
My neighbor bought one. Of these new in 1995 and I bought it from him in 2004 when he bought another new one. He maintained it by the book with Mobile 1 5w 30 with new filter at every oil change. Most of his driving was highway so it had 150,000 miles on it. The only problem he had was with the EATC Control Head which was replaced. Not long after I took it over, I replaced the air springs with new ones and about two years after that, the Valve Seals needed to be replaced. Aside from normal wear items like oil, tires, shocks and transmission service with new filters as per Owner's Manual, that's been all it has needed. It now has 195,000 and still has the original exhaust system, starter and up until last week, the original alternator. The leather interior is still in excellent condition. AND, I never have to add oil between oil changes. The clear coat over the paint started flaking off a couple of years ago and considering the car's overall condition, what's available to replace it with and that we are now in our mid seventies, we have decided to get it repainted. I found an extremely well cared for '95 Cartier Series the same color as the one in the video with 136,000 and picked it up for my wife about 10 years ago and it has given the same trouble free service as the first one. Given our age, I think that we probably will never have to replace these Lincolns nor do we really want to. If a car like these suit your needs, or you want to get into the Collector Car Hobby, find a well taken care of 90's Town Car and enjoy!
You got a good deal there! I prefer the regular hardtop roof myself, but it's definitely something I'm gonna seek after, I've always wanted a Lincoln Town Car too! My dad once rented a 1981 Town Car, it was brand new! We went on holidays to BC that year! It was my first time riding in one, I'll never forget it! It was a navy blue exterior with a navy blue velour interior! BEAUTIFUL CAR! I was hooked on the full size luxury V8 cars after that wonderful experience, both the Ford and GMs are tops in my book! If I had to choose between a Town Car and a Cadillac Fleetwood, I'd have a hard time deciding! Hopefully someday I'll have enough money so that I could afford both!😊
These cars are a big reason for the saying. "They just dont make em like that anymore." Durable, dependable, comfy, and an experience all their own to drive. It is so unfortunate that America went from an icon builder to an icon killer.
My younger wife has had a 1991 Lincoln Town Car , then 2 1996 LTC and now a 1997 LTC CARTIER ,her choice and FAVORITE car as a daily driver with the rare chrome 16 inch rims and moon roof car look BRAND NEW . We also bought her a 2019 CORVETTE she LOVES both these cars . Happy Wife Happy Life
This was my wifes first car almost 20 years ago... paid $400 for it. Engine knocked alittle and it caught fire once due to a frozen caliper that we barely put out ... BUT it got her around for a couple years, floated down the road like a cloud and was great for making stories!
I've got Town Car 2003 and it's an amazing car. I dreamed about it almost all of my life. Thanks god nobody thinks like me. Rear-wheel drive, full body on frame, rear air suspension, leather everywhere etc - it makes Town Cars best American used car on the market. It's very common philosophy in the past which unfortunately is already forgotten here. Now I dream about some personal luxury coupe, but Lincoln Mark VIII and Buick Riviera had their own issues. And they are too old of course. So, looks like this dream has no chance to become reality. But at least we have these ideal Town Cars. Thank you for the video!
Amazing deal that you got for 2K! It is in nice condition and seems strange that the only real wear it shows is the headliner- makes you wonder how it got in that condition.... Enjoy it and remember what America once was capable of building in the automotive industry.
I got a 2004 Town Car signature series. I love it. Had to get a/c repaired and replace the interior door handles. That's about it. Has 99k miles on it.
I just picked up a 1988 white on white a few weeks ago. I always wanted one as a kid (my grandfather always drove a town car) I finally but the bullet and bought one.
I drive. 2003 Grand Marquis, have it 10 years, My father gifted me this car, it was his 5 th and final Grand Marquis, big cars ride so nice, hard to beat.4 .6 V8.
We buy those panther platform sedans in often even with insanely low miles owned by grandpa garaged it’s entire life they’re still getting around 4K wholesale, So underrated . Just gas guzzlers
What a gorgeous car! I drove my grandmother's 1999 Grand Marquis until just a few years ago. It's a step down from the Towncar, but what a quiet, comfortable, powerful, reliable car. You did well with this one!
The 4.6L was first introduced in the crown Victoria (1990.5) the town car was actually the only car of the 3 panthers to still have the 5.0 in the new body style.
Yeah, and at one point, part of their slogan was, "Travel Well." Indeed! There IS no other luxury sedan within these model years that is any better. As far as the luxurious seating areas, these Lincolns were actually SECOND in the comfort arena; my 1990 Buick Electra/Park Avenue, along with my old 1987 Chrysler New Yorker, had much more comfortable seats, with their soft, fluffy, La-Z-Boy seating style. I MISS THESE CARS!!
Grateful for all the unique and interesting cars that Brendan shows us, but honestly not many of his purchases fit his personality, but this Lincoln though, is bang on, I hope you keep it for a long time!
I get nostalgic. Had one '94 in the Dominican Republic in a similar condition to yours. The most wonderful and smoothest driving experience ever, even if it wasn't the best car because of its age, but it was also a real tank in traffic which got very much respect. I literally owe my life to the 2nd Town Car ('06). Head-on collision at about 40 mph on impact. I only had a small scratch on my hand while even the gearbox broke apart.
these will be sought after collectables very soon! first it was the 60's & 70's Mustangs that weren't worth much but are now a hot commodity now Fox Body's are going up very quickly! very Soon after will be the 80's & 90's V8 Thunderbirds, V8 Crown Vics and these Lincolns! don't wait till the prices go up grab them now!
I have a 1999 XJ8. Also a large luxury car, but a little sportier. Enjoying the Jaguar as my summer car to save the miles on my 4x4 truck extending its lifespan, but I’m missing my Mustangs.
I LOVE my 2005 Town Car Signature L, the first year Lincoln used "Signature" on all their Town Cars. Before 2005, "Signature" was for the higher trim cars. This model is equivalent to the former top-of-the-line Cartier and is also in the hard-to-find factory 6" stretch "L" version that came out in the 2000s. I bought it from a Lincoln dealer in San Antonio in 2007. Only 17K miles, in new condition, always in Texas, and sold for half of its new sticker price in 2005. Even the body color sounds luxurious…French Silk. It has what is no longer available on almost all newer cars...a full frame, a solid and naturally-aspirated V8, a cassette player (being an audiophile, my cassettes sound like CDs), a CD player and changer, and NO DISTRACTING screen on the dash. It has the increased horsepower 239 HP 4.6L V8 that came out in the 2000s, yet easily gets 27 MPG on the highway and 21 MPG in town. No troublesome multivalve, turbocharged, or supercharged setup. I appreciate an interior and ride that isolates you with a smooth ride and library silence. The seats are more "Europeanized" than the cushy ones in the second-generation Town Car, meaning they are firmer and not as plush. Lincoln added a rear Watts suspension starting in ’98 that was borrowed from the Jaguar division they owned at the time and went to rack and pinion steering in 2003 along with a refined front suspension and a further stiffened frame. Easy to work on and parts are both durable and inexpensive compared to today’s vehicles. I am keeping this. Always garaged and currently only 157K miles. I want nothing to do with most newer cars. Why pay much more for much less? If I wanted the ride of a “performance car”, I would buy roller skates or ride my racing bicycle. Sometimes it is just nice to get away from the noise and stress, be comfortable, and decompress.
I had a 90 and still gave my 93 that just turned 90K. It's a rare dark blue with all blue leather int. It is the most reliable car I have ever owned The dark blue with vogue whitewalls really makes it have a nautical POP. It's all original and in MINT condition and I baby the hell out of it. My white 90 had the presidential roof on it with a smaller limo rear window. It was a gorgeous car, but those thick padded roofs tend to get porus as they age causing body rust. To change the roof is hella expensive. The 90 got car of the year but there was a lot to be desired comparing it's 5.0 to the 4.6. The 4.6 is much faster and has dual exhaust. The 90 didn't. The 90 had a borrowed antilock system for the brakes from Mercedes and was a nightmare when it failed to repair. On the other hand when looking at the town cars from 90 to 97 you will see that the early ones had all kinds of exterior trim pieces that little by little were deleted every two years by 97 the cars were so stripped and plain they looked like fleet cars. Just compare the front bumpers and grill from the 90 to the 97. Ford is famous for this. They figure the public isn't that sharp. If you can find a promo 91 that still has all the exterior goodies you have the best of both worlds with the 4.6 engine.
I had an '03 (as a 23 yr old) and all of my friends thought I was ridiculous until they sat in the thing and realized how comfortable and reliable it was long term. I've since sold it and gone through two other vehicles (2012 Lincoln MKS & 2021 Mazda CX-9 - which were both great) but I'm actually in the process of looking for a low mile town car. I miss my huge V8 and being the fastest town car to ever exist!
Wow so many features like my 1995 Lincoln Continental I do have the 4.6 litre engine but mine is the dual cam 32valve which was put in the Mustang as the Cobra in 1995 to 1996. A lot of the same feature but not as fancy and with 65,000 KMS or about 38,000 miles it is a dream to drive. These cars with the 4.6 will run forever if looked after though.
I drove a 1996 Signature Series that was like new inside and out. Loved that car especially the 1995-1997 had the best dash, headlights, and minor trim. Your missing a giant rounded off metal key that would work for your trunk. The symbol you asked about on the trunk must be part of that dealer package, mine had the Lincoln symbol. I knew every inch of that car and until I was hit I never planned on getting rid of it. Very nice, plus it a Lincoln Town Car.
Great car and great buy. I have a 2006 Merc Grand Marquis with the same engine. These engines will commonly go over 300 K miles. I love my Merc and have had very little trouble over my 135 k i have driven it since new. Thanks for the video, Rick WA state USA.
Great video, I remember sitting in a 1990 Continental at the Detroit auto show for an extended period of time. My dad said people were giving me dirty looks because I wasn't getting out, so I am all in on your seat assessment.
Nice buy on the LTC! I have owned one myself and they are great riding, quite and comfortable cars for sure. You can't beat the value for money on these things. They beg to be a part of any smaller budget collection. I think you should tidy up that one. But be on the lookout for a little nicer one. If you're going to have an LTC in your fleet, you got to have the moonroof! Definitely a must, it makes it just right 👍 I would also look for a better color. You will spend a bit more. But so worth the money. Then when you find the better LTC, you can sell this one.
In high school I had a car like this. I will fill it up with friends in the front. We could fit about 8 sometimes 9 sitting on each other's lap. And in a few occasions I also put friends in the Trunk
You got yourself a diamond in the rough. 👍 I drove Lincoln Town cars for years. First as a limos(the last one was 102” stretch) then after just town car for airport runs. I now for my personal car have a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis with only 167,000 miles on her. Thanks for sharing your video.
Nice car I have a friend that has my wife’s grandfather Lincoln Continental 1996 and he just re-done the headliner and the ragtop he got the car in 2008 with 45,000 miles on it for 3500 now he got just around 95000 miles
I would argue the fleetwood brougham was the pinnacle as it was a Cadillac, (more prestigious name) bigger, and more powerful. Although the Lincoln probably rode softer due to being not quite as concerned with handling as Cadillac is, even back then.
These were Gorgeous and well built Cars. Only Cadillac and Lincoln offered such great Vehicles like this. I miss them so much today, Nothing comes close. :(
A top of the Line town car in Orthopedic Beige. Awesome. What a great car. I own a half dozen of these. 1996 was a changeover year from seperate trunk key to all one use key. Your car is missing the separate trunk key. You can program a couple of remotes as well. Keep an eye on your intake. Don’t run it low on coolant or oil and it’ll run forever. Enjoy!
I bought the last year of town car from 2011 to fix up and sell, but I enjoyed it and many people saw why when we drove for a bit. Used as much gas as my f 150 but hey🤙🏼
That is the Cartier symbol on the trunk. I had a car just like this years ago. The color is called light parchment metallic. Its a tri coat pearlescent paint. A pain to touch up. It takes multiple coats to cover up the chip. I have a last year Town Car now. A white signature limited. Has 78,500 miles right now. Love Town Cars.
I remember buying a 92 crown vic in 2010 from an old lady who drove it only to the nearby grocery store of < 2 miles and back. When i bought it, it only had 10,000 miles and got it for only $4,000. Best car I ever had, and I own an RX 330 still.
I have always preferred this body style of the town car to the 03-11 model, the boxy look makes it seem important and much taller than it really is. They are both great vehicles though.
As a limo driver for a while in the 90's, I drove these cars extensively. My father always bought Grand Marquis which are the same engine and chassis. He never wanted to pay the Lincoln price (pretty much the same car). While not so quick off the line, you can cruise as fast as you want and DRIVE EITHER CAR FOR HOURS without tiring!
My Dad's last car was a 98 Grand Marquis LS in Wedgewood Blue with a light gray interior and those lacy spoke aluminum wheels they offered back then. That was such a sweet ride and we sold it when he passed. Now I wish I would have kept it because it only had 38,000 miles on it at the time (2006)...I barely put 10,000 miles on a car in a year, so I'm sure it would still be going strong today. Those cars were pretty much bullet proof!
@@davidfrania8990 Mine is tan/tan LS. Every feature but air suspension. I have teardrop wheels. Yeah, for sure it would have bee riding great today - mine has a bit over 200K. Most of the repairs though were from rust. The trans cable snapped because it rotted out. Cheap fixes though. I replaced an A/C part today, $30.
I've got the last year Cartier L in 3rd gen with sunroof and factory rain sensing windshield on 80k miles. The one and only True North American Luxury I ever want!
I miss the spring driven trunks. The power trunks and hatches of today are slow and often times even on relatively new cars never quite open all the way.
I had a 92 towncar the 4.6v8 was a smooth engine but on mind both air shocks in the back went out and Lincoln wanted $1500 each and labor came out to $4600 I said hell no and went to a suspension shop and got shocks and springs for $500, it wasn't floating like it was suppose to do but still drove well, oh how can I forget my digital dash was going out I had to tap on the screen sometimes to get it to work
I love my 1996 town car and need to give it up, but it has been a great car. The engine and transmission run great. The car needs a little bit of extra care. I hate to let it go.
I worked on alot of those in the 90s we had a hearse seller nearby that sent over limousines and hearses for tires and alignment caster and camber can be set easily with 2 bolts above the a arms a great reason for fleet and limousines
Bought at 97’ Lincoln town car, for only 1200. It’s still drives clean, and smooth, paint and seats still greatly the same, and only problem it had was a cold start witch is fixed
I have a 92 and a 95 and let me tell you, love them. The trunk opens with a different key. Not the same key you use to start it and that’s why you couldn’t open it you were using the engine key. The other smaller key, if you have it, is for the trunk and for the glove box.
Here is a bit of irony for you, the Ford Panther/P71 platform actually has a super luxurious variant that is way above the Lincoln Town Car of this era, it was made in China, and it is called the HongQi CA7460, and that has an even more luxurious variant that is called the HongQi Qijian. There is also a stretch limousine variant that is even more luxurious than the other two HongQi models of this platform that is called the HongQi CA7465.
Just be ready for rear airbags and a pump and some point. Other than intake manifold replacement, depending on year model, it's a pretty solid car. Quiet and pretty comfy. Keep 65/70 with a light foot on the throttle and 25mpg is pretty standard on the Hwy.
When the airbags start leaking, he can forget about them and put in springs for a grand marquis. I had this done on my town car and it was 1/10 the price, and 100% reliable. After that it felt like a grand marquis, still good, no problem.
I miss cars with dual visors. It made it very convenient for when the sun is right at the corner post and a simple move of your head makes it back in your eyes. Or for when the sun is to your left, but their is a ton of glare off the chrome bumper of the truck in front of you.
that model has one the nicest looking instrument boards, i like those curves and how they cross over to the doors, very comfy & pleasent to look at. the conservative colors suit to that. 👱♂i think the 95-97 Lincoln Towncar is a precious looking car and should be preserved forever.
Love that generation of Panther but I don't car for the dealer add on roof but that's just me. I preferred the slick top with the windows in the c-pillars for a bit more visibility.
That isn’t a Landau roof. A Landau roof only covers the rear part of the roof like the old style limousines of the past. And the trunk lock cover is the Cartier logo.
