When I bought my first house my parents (Portuguese) said to live in it 6 months to a year before making major repairs. I'm so glad I listened! It was an old abandoned house (in the USA) and our #1 project was to tear down the ugly screened in porch that honestly looked like a chicken coop. I HATED it! Well, the day before it was supposed to come down, it rained buckets. My husband brought in the grill from outside, we set up a table, and enjoyed our delicious grilled steaks while listening to the patter of rain. It was awesome! So instead of tearing down that ugly porch, we did some work to it (mostly cosmetic), and enjoyed many years of parties, dinners, and just relaxing out there in the summer. What a huge (and expensive) mistake it would have been to tear it down!
Never used a bidet. They are not common in Canada. Your place is huge. You and your dad will do an amazing job on renovating it. Keep the bathroom in the master bedroom.
So happy to see you back Alex, I hope you and your family are well and happy. Speaking for myself, A lady, I would never forgive you if you remove the en-suite bathroom. 🙄
There are lots of ways to add a closet, but adding a bathroom is a lot more effort & expense. It would also lessen the value of your home. Since you have a pool, you'll likely have guests. Having 2 full bathrooms will prove helpful.
I agree with all the comments re the en suite bathroom. Downsize it so you still have a bathroom (with shower instead of bath) and the other half could be the walk in closet you've planned. Also, keep a utility room separate (for washing machine & dryer). The dryer creates a lot of fine dust from the filter that gets into everything, so as you have the space, leave those separate, if not in the main house, then one of the outbuilding rooms. Glad to see you back as you can tell you have been missed and it's good to know your parents are doing well also (as mentioned in the previous video). I hope your Dad's back is healed fully so that he can help you with this major project. Looking forward to your plans when you get started!
I grew up and still live in Argentina and we grew up with the bide. It is a little different in that ours have a spray in the middle of the bottom, unlike yours that has a pointed little spicket at the end/start of the bide. The question is always asked, How di you sit on it? looking forwards or backwards? the answer is BOTH, whatever you want to clean will tell you which way to sit. We also have a little lever that closes off the sprinkler/sprayer and as a toilet the rim of the bide runs the water. This way it can be used to clean feet or wash clothes, such as a sweater or underware. Well I hope that is enough information to make you curious about the bide and want to use it. I also keep a small towel hanging right there so I an dry myself after use. Good luck. I do think you have chosen a lovely home. I like large rooms with large windows which is not common in POrtugal. Usually the bedrooms do not have windows and nothing more than a bed fits in them. This seems very well planned. Are you planning to live with your parents or do they have another home? On another subject, since you no longer will be a farmer what other carrier are you planning in order to support yourself?
Wow, Alex! It looks like it's in great condition for having been empty for so long. It will be a beautiful property for you and your parents to live in.
A beautiful property! Some of the storage areas turn into Airbnb seasonal, good income helper. The lower part of the land would be perfect for orchard and big vegetable garden.Looking forward to watching your projects develop.
Wow, it's a really big property with loads of potential, I can see why you bought it. Loads of work, but loads of possibilities as well. It's amazing that it was left for so long.👍
A solid attractive house not too much work, more changes to suit ones tastes, the bathrooms need some attention, the kitchen a full makeover. The gardens are the majority required work. All is easy if you have the time and skills. Love it. 💗
Nice piece of land, Alex. House looks is great shape too. A kitchen update, maybe open it up to livingroom with dining area. But keep all bathrooms. I couldn't visualise where your dining area was going to be added actually. A woman would also appreciate a bathroom in the master bedroom, maybe down size that big bathroom but add walk-in closet for clothing in the same area as a separate room. ( I've always thought some bathroomswere too big anyway). Oh my that pool will need a lot of work but I have faith, you can do it! Yard is so hugh you'll have it in shape. I'd also make one of those outside rooms a guesthouse maybe the one your using as your kitchen with bedroom, its already done for you just clean, paint, decorations wait for guest. Looking forward to how you and papa will be doing your make overs repairs. Keep on keeping on
Happy to see you back. First clear everything, then ask yourself what you really need or want then draw up a plan. Tell your father not to work to hard. I remember he injured his back at the other place.
Beautiful house and land! I would take the bath out of the master-suite and put another door and shower there - then the room could be split in half and the other half can be the walk in closet :)
Holy cow, that place is gigantic. It's a small farm. This is going to be so exciting. Thanks for sharing. Yeah don't split the master bedroom from the en suite bathroom. Plant more fruit trees!
Please keep the bathroom ensuite! If you want to build a closet..you can divide the bath room and rearrange it to add the closet. Take the bath out, and put a shower, keep bidet and then add closet on the other half of bathroom ... but don't dismantle the bathroom...it's do much more correct and add value to the property!
A good power wash on the roof and the tiles around the house will make a big difference, Alex I have to be honest with you, I thought the worse when you disappeared and gone back to your country the help fight a war that nobody will win, so pleased I was wrong. 😊
Hi Alex I am so glad to see you are back for awhile I though you had gone back to your country I am so please that you and your family are in my beautiful country and this vila is amazing but when you mentioned that you were removing the bath room to convert it into a closet I almost cried with disappointment because it,s so important to have a master bathroom it will add more value to the house closet space I am sure you will find it somewhere else please rethink it again before you destroy that because washroom what a beautiful place you have there.good luck with your renovations
Hi, Thank you for the comment, As said, Nothing is final, And everything can be still changed :) This is why I am asking you guys for suggestions, As there are many people smarter than me.
I'm Portuguese, so using a bidet is part of my hygiene routine. By the way, out of curiosity, until January of this year, it was mandatory for at least one of the bathrooms to have a bidet. Regarding the house, it has immense potential. I look forward to following your rehabilitation and restoration project.
Hi, Alex ! This house has a lot of potential, that open space next to where you want to make your sauna is actually an outdoor woodshed for storing the fireplace wood. Don't take the mastersuite bathroom out you will need a private one especially if you're married. You can make a closet somewhere else. Glad to see you again.
Hi Bill, Yeah that place is to store wood, It is exactly right. But there is like another place to store wood on the property, Left of the pool, So we will be storing the wood there.
¿Are you sure is abandoned? That huge and beautyful house just needs some minor repairs, a professional painting, a very good clean up and it's ready to move in to take care of the abandoned lawn yard and gardens, the pool and that's it. If you change anything to this beautiful house, you're going to dilapidate money and ruin it and don't deserve it. You bougth a treasure, treat her like a treasure. If I were the owner I could live there really happy the rest of my life planting fruit trees and muy food, have a chicken coop, to raise a couple young horses, a couple cows to milk and of course, a couple of Golden Retrievers. Congratulations, you're going to live my dream in this property
Good to see you back Alex and you have purchased a beautiful home there and those views of the countryside is truly amazing. Looks like not so much work to be done in the main house in the main bedroom the bathroom I would leave it as it is just give the cupboards a bit of a tart up and build wardrobes in the bedroom . I hope your Dad’s heath has now improved and gets to help you out with your new home . Thanks for showing us through the new home and looking forward to the next videos.
Bidets are a must! Wish they put them in all houses here in the US. We call it a well and well house rather than a bore hole. Wow there are a lot of storage rooms!!
The property is beautiful. The house is so spacious. Please don’t do anything to the master bathroom. Storage isn’t as important as an easily accessible bathroom. The outbuildings could be converted to air B and B. With the beautiful land and views it would be a wonderful place to relax especially with the renovated pool. I love the outdoor kitchen with the two ovens, one a pizza oven. During the summer heat it will be a great place to cook keeping the main house cool. I Am excited for you and your family and look forward to your journey . 😊
thank you alex for some great content. . we are buying a house ruin in baranco do velho and you have inspired us and we have learned so much from your experience. we wish you the best of luck and good health to you and your father.
I’m so happy for you and your family. I’m so in love with this property all in one floor. The pool looks amazing. So so sooo glad you’re back. On another note it would be so nice to have people learn to have their dogs free in the backyard like you have yours, sad to hear them barking cause they’re stressed. A big hug from Sunny Florida.
Hi🖐🏼this is a beautiful piece of land and house, dont look like it needs alot of work😇happy ur family are doing well, specially ur dad😊🙏🏼 can't wait to see the change in that beautiful property😁❤️🙏🏼
Alex, Beautiful Villa that was a good purchase , all the woodwork looks good tiling on floor looks good also all in all theres work to be done but you will be working with a beautiful
As a woman I would want both an en-suite bathroom and a walk in closet. Meaning much less space for sleeping purposes is necessary, that’s the way to go.
Wow. quite a change from the stone building! at 25:40. Aloe arborescens or commonly, "tree Aloe" in English. It is easily harvested and the cuttings propagate easily. Low water and few insect pests. No wonder it looks so happy with no care for years.! Best luck!
Lot's of potential there. Firstly bring the sweet Soule of a sheep to her home. Then you can do what you want on your property. You can convert that storage places in to different kinds of workshop's. Plants seedlings to grow, preserving all your fruit and veg, office, needlework workshop, art and craft workshop, chicken hatchery with eggs, cold room to store meat, fish aquarium etc. God bless you and family. Greetings from South Africa, Cape Town. 🙏🤗💕🐑
It looks like a fantastic property, large house with great potential and garden/land with many opportunities for both growing food and for pleasure. Most of all, nice to see the channel back here and hear everything is ok with you! There is some work, but manageable and can be fantastic. Waiting in anticipation for the next episode
What a beautiful property!!! Can’t wait to see you bring it back to its original glory, that is my dream home has everything you need small village , near lisbon , bungalow (so one floor as you age perfect) garden fruit trees wow it checks everything box for me congratulations stunning 🇨🇦🇵🇹
Suggestion one.. keep the ensuite bathroom.. if it is too big, halve the space, there will be room to put a dressing room in the remaining area. Are your parents going to move with you onto the land? Do you have a lady in your life? If you do, she would probably have some ideas. I’m not into Sauna, but I love your idea to make one by the pool I’m, overall, very impressed with the look of the house. It would have been a very expensive building when new. Im a bit disappointed that there is no giant mulberry tree🤣 Cheers to you and you family. I look forward to seeing your progress ❤️
I trust that the previous owners built the swimming pool with full planning permission & the pool features on the property plans? I know of a couple of people who only found out after buying their properties that their's did not, something their solicitor "didn't notice"......
dam nice looking place can't wait to see you and dad start work i'm guess you won't be get the neighbors sheep running over to your place this time 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a big house, but it will be good for the family. If you are close to Lisbon, you will have good access to everything you need. That cactus looks like an agave. I think it's used to make a sweet syrup. No bidet in 🇨🇦. 🙂🇨🇦
Never remove a bathroom. Make it smaller if you have to, but do not get rid of it. I also agree that you should live there for a year before messing with things.
Alex, I think the room that you are planning to change to a chicken coop may have been used to store pool chemicals. Pool chemicals must be stored in an area where there is nothing metal and there is plenty of air circulation. That room would be ideal and it is close to the pool equipment. Something to keep in mind. Beautiful property. Nice find!! I am sure you will enjoy renovating it with your father.
Beautiful property, a very good, large spacious house and a spectacular plot of land, I look forward with excitement to all the arrangements that you will make in it....by the way, a question when I saw so much land, I remembered the sheep that you had, it would be fantastic if you could bring it to your land she would be happy. waiting for future videos... what is the name of the town where the house is or the municipality
