Check PCV pull or push (glove test on oil filler). If PCV sys is clogged, it'll puke oil out the Front/Rear main seals, cam seals...alot of labor to replace the PCV but not too difficult. FCP has great parts and helpful videos for the PCV. Good Luck! I own three Volvos and finally understand their 'quirks'.
JR: "the first thing I need to do is get the plasti-dip off the front wheels" as he wades thru an oil slick. Hey, maybe you should name this one Valdez (probably before your time).
I'm willing to bet a cam seal pushed out of the head. You can replace the seal but that should be followed up with a PCV rebuild kit to reduce the pressure in the crankcase.
Recently got myself a 2008 version of this car with a similar story. One owner, Volvo maintained with incredible detail. ALL maintenance done within last 30k miles or less. Paid $4000 for the car and felt that was fair based on it's history. Drive it daily..love it. 156k miles and not a problem. Love these things. Had a 2004 AWD version and loved it as much. Bought my wife a 2013 S60 recently. Great cars.
That's the biggest thing, have fun doing it. I've done plenty of flips, lost on some, made money on some, but at the end of the day I always had fun bringing them back into service
Unfortunately that timing belt might need to be done again... looks like the front cam seals. Pop off that front timing belt cover to confirm. Replace all four cams seals, timing belt/idler/tensioner (if they're contaminated with oil, you may have lucked out), PCV (likely the reason there's an oil leak... PCV is backed up and blew out the seals). I recently bought an '03 2.4T that needed the same thing. I also have an '01 on the driveway that I did the same work to... it's really not that bad. Then again, I've done all those jobs probably 5+ times now with how many Volvos I've owned... lol.
I love volvos. Make sure you check the ETM, electronic throttle module and the pcv system. I've had a few and I know a ton about them so any questions you have JR, just ask me
Cam hubs aren't the issue...listen to me and take the ETM off, make sure the throttle plate doesnt stick. Both my S60 and S80 had that issue. Theres a company on ebay that sells upgraded ones. Swedenauto I believe.
Unfortunately those volvos aren't worth much. I sold my s80 for 1200, it had all service done at volvo as well. 2k is usually maximum for a 99 to 02 s60 or s80
My thought, too. Put a glove on the oil filler and see if it inflates, that will tell you real quick whether the PCV is no longer breathing. PCV clogs may also cause it to hunt a bit at idle.
One owner car always serviced at Volvo, I would imagine they would have fixed it if it was that simple... But could be. Could have gotten clogged up and blew the rear main seal too.
Gary Tinsley, yeah, it’s a bit of a stretch I know, but I once bought a car (from a mechanic) that thought he had seized the engine... for $75. It had a PVC blockage that forced oil out of the dipstick tube when running. Being a European built car, (Ford Capri from Germany) I was pretty sure that it had a low oil kill switch that would have shut the motor off before seizing. It turned out I was right. I put 125k on that car over the next 5 years... until it was hit by a taxi cab totaling it.
Love these flip car videos! 😀 When you do your CV joints I'd be interested as to how it's done. I've never done one before but it would be useful to know.
brill video JR.own a 2005 s60 myself so the tips are great.how great also FCP Euro are with the parts, wish they could sponsor me:)looking forward to the next s60 video already.great work mate.
I don't no what its called but there is a spray you can spray on the wheels to dissolve the plastic dip. Its like dip remover it something like that. Works great.
You should put all your working cars on Turo and see if people like renting them out or not. Good luck with that Volvo!! Hoovie could too, but his break all the time so not sure how that would go :)
THOSE ARE CICADAS in the background not locusts. locusts are grasshoppers. Cicadas are the little exoskeletons you see stuck to your tree or your tire in the morning after they molt there skin. That what make that skreetching sound at night!
Zack is less than enthused about the S60...the last one must've been a nightmare. And the outtake about the R8 is a gem - maybe it is time to install the new engine?
Locusts and cicadas, particularly periodical cicadas, are often confused. However, the two are quite different. Locusts are a type of grasshopper, while cicadas are actually cousins of crickets - Its OK, you're from Wichita :)
That car looks exactly like my car.. I just replaced the strut, strut mount, spring seat and ball joints. My car had about the same mileage but is a Canadian car and it's not a turbo. But right up until I bought it it was serviced at the dealer. Wish mine was a turbo as it's the slug of all slugs.
Nice car for the price I like my '00 BMW 323i but it needs work lol nothing major but costly lol like a head gasket and valve cover gasket and a blower motor lol but it runs good when it cools off some coolant gets into the cylinders but after you start it it stops
@jrgo my buddy bought the same type and spend couple grand to rebuild the tranny, found that volvo has proprietary programming to get the syncros synced
P2 Volvos eat strut mounts and spring seats. The seat can be replaced with ones from an XC-90 if you want to go for something that will last more than 80K. Struts are usually not too long for the world after the seats go. That oil leak though, oh man, that's on the business end of the engine. Hard to get decent access with out being an acrobat or a small handed child. Good luck, hopefully it's just cam seals. Check your flame trap and associated piping as well if it's a seal. Positive pressure may have caused one or more seals to go. RIP That new T-belt; it's probably oil soaked, no bueno.
I would go ahead and replace the belt it's not hard to jerryrig the cams locked (theres specific cheap tools to lock it also) and replace the belt. Recommended service intervals are every 70k or 6 years. If you do choose to do it do the tensioner and water pump also
Tell all your PD officers if they are soooo bored that they need to be hassle some poor gal because of Blah... Blah... Blah... the Detroit PD would be happy to accept them on their force. Drive by shootings included. Must supply your own diapers. Drive buys are usually accomplished by either an AR-15 or a ("Chopper") AK-47! 🆒🆒🆒🆒
I have to ask. How do you find these deals? I've been trying to find some like this in the Tulsa area and people want $1000 for cars with blown rods, and pistons. I found one VW Passat for $360 but the flywheel needed replaced and new electrical. Someone cut a bunch of wires under the hood and just tucked them in to try and hide it.
Sounds like a throttle body to me. Before you change it, make sure it's not the connector from the harness. $20 repair vs $300. Common issue that is often overlooked.
Haha that sounds like my car dumping quarts whenever parked, replaced gasket, then was still leaking and it was an oil pressure sensor, filled up oil one day 4 days later shits dry
From one volvo s60 owner to another, replace that filler cap gasket with a IPD HD Oil Cap Seal, the factory ones are flawed and tend to leak oil after a few oil changes, and must be replaced with every oil change.. for around $10 you can get a upgraded seal that you won't have to change again @ IPDUSA.com
Not quite a collectors item, that 200 Arbarth is now being discontinued. If you want one, buy it before it is gone (all 200s discontinued): www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news/fiat-500-discontinued-in-us-for-2020/ar-AAGHTI2?li=BBnb4R7
