Beautiful to see a video like this that isn't about flexing, snobbery, or perpetuating the false narratives of the industry. Watches should be fun and the reasons you bought this are the only reasons that matter. And...I bought the Seiko 5 Snoopy pilot version for all the same reasons and love it so much as a result.
Congratulations on your new Seiki Peanuts purchase Harrison. It takes a lot of guts to change career direction, I've done it a few times over the decades, sometimes by choice and sometimes by necessity. I've again reached a crossroads so I might do something completely different. When a hobby becomes work can in some cases dilute the hobby as when you finish work you want to do something else. On the flip side if you enjoy your job it doesn't seem like work. Like you I've got a new Seiko after many years. I have the Prospex version of the Alpinist green dial with the internal compass ring and I love it. That Seiko fire is burning bright once again. Recently got this watch and absolutely love it. I’m a Peanuts fan and since learning about this collaboration I wanted it immediately. Now it’s in my hands and it is my new favorite. Wear it almost daily.
The beagle is called Snoopy, the cartoon strip with Charlie Brown, Linus, Patty and Woodstock is Peanuts. Very much like you I bought this, also my first Seiko after an Omega (300) and a Tudor (BB Pro) and this will be my adventure, play, get out there watch, punches well above its price point.
I bought my wife, and daughter, this one Snoopy with surf board, and Snoopy parachuting, Limited Editions, at once. My wife loves Snoopy and my daughter, when she was a little girl called Snoopy “Slurpy the Funder!” We had our daughter when I was 20 and my wife was 19. We grew up with our daughter by our side. My wife, and daughter have a special bond. Today, my wife is 54 and I’m 55. Our daughter is in her mid 30s. When they wear their Seiko Snoopy Seiko watches, even if they are thousands of miles apart, they are together 😊
I picked up the 1st Seiko Snoopy last week at a retailer in Naples FL for $369. While I like the Nato strap on this watch as well as the design, the Limited Edition numbers are lower on the original vs this one and they are the same movements. I do like the dial on this one better but the $200 more wasn't worth it for me as it will serve more as my tool watch. Great pick up, enjoy it!
That's the reason I have one, even it had QC problems on calibre since first day I bought, I can wait for service claim, and now it sits in my collection strong
Congrats on the new watch Harrison! It's crazy how this watch attracted me to Seiko almost exactly like you did. And I am also kinda in similar situation with my career and started making video on watches as well. Tho I was first attracted to the Snoopy and ended up with the Teal 38mm. But I am totally in line with you on this hobby is about having fun. Anyway, enjoy the new watch and keep up the good content!
NASA adopted snoopy as their mascot and then started gives the silver snoopy award out to employees and contractors. They gave Omega the award for there help with Apollo 13 which led to the Omega snoopy watch and has become synonymous with watches since. I've just bout this watch as have always wanted a snoopy watch, don't really like the Timex editions and can't afford the Omega so this is perfect for me. Will sit nicely next to my Seamaster and my Tag link 😁
I'll always have a love/hate relationship with Seiko. They have some iconic, fantastic designs but have a massive array of models ranging from good to terrible quality.
I've just started getting into watches and I've just purchased a Seiko 5 Sports in black it's definitely great value for money. I'm looking at the Longines HydroConquest next.

I’m also a landscape photographer and similarly noticed that the business side of things has started to erode the fun, adventure, and excitement, so I think I know where you’re coming from. I stepped back from art shows and architectural installation commissions this year and will see how I’m feeling about it again in 2024. I adore this peanuts collab and opted for the “Parachute” version (SRPK27). I have a soft spot for pilots and Seiko did an amazing job creating a flieger style dial to match the artwork. The Schultz font for the numerals is the perfect touch and this is how limited editions should be done. Really well executed by Seiko.

I bought the watch at the first watch event I ever attended. It definitely invokes a sense of being connected with the watch community and it is just a fun watch to own and wear.
Another happy meal for us seikoholics. Seiko 5 is definitely a Seiko McDonald line up. Before being offended, I love McDonalds and buy from it daily at work. They sell stuffs like McDonalds and change items like McDonalds as well. The problem with LE Seiko 5 line up is that it is basically a NH35/NH34 movement that they sell to microbrands. Microbrands makes better specs with better glass and better specs.
Well said. I too got lost in the hobby. Chasing and buying prestige brands. Rolex, IWC, Omega, Breitling, Zenith, GS, Panerai, Tudor....now I have only 3. Ollech and Wajs MP (field watch), Omega Master Chronom Seamaster...and Airain Sous Marine (on order). It stopped being fun. I do like Seiko and have had SBDX and SLA as well as SRPD etc. But I listened to watch snobs....I should have listened to my heart. Lesson for us all...buy something you like and do not give a fig about the idiots who only see watches as "investment." Have fun and enjoy....

When a hobby becomes work, be prepared that it may no longer be your hobby... It may be time to find another hobby. In the real world, few people can do "my hobby is my work" and enjoy it.
Sorry Harrison. Watches with cartoon characters on just don't cut it and will fall out of favour very quickly. I don't like it at all. Like your school report: "Could do better."
No longer see any value in the Seiko 5 line and only buy Prospex with deep discounts now. The glory days of Seiko are over. Probably the best Seiko value at present is in entry level GS.
