I recently took delivery of my Seiko SRPK17 55th Anniversary watch. Normally I'm a sucker for diver's watches, but this piece awoke my inner retro-sports hunter. The bracelet is long - I had to remove quite a lot of links, and I feared I would be unable size it, but it worked out. The links and pins were indeed hard to work with, and somewhat inconsistent between tight and loose, but once it was done, it was done. However, I detected no roughness on the inner edges of the links - they are tightly held together so it's hard to see. I agree that the bracelet is not very flexible (unlike the Seiko bracelet that came with the old SKX007!), but once it is on the wrist I find it completely comfortable. Thanks for showcasing the alternative bracelets! - the Asteroid specially. Seiko gave us drilled lugs - it would be a shame not to take advantage of them, right?
I can't thank you enough for this video!!! I walked out of my local Seiko A.D. Mimo's Jewelry in Long Beach California. I really liked your strap and bracelet choices for this one. I have mine on a Strap Habit green fkm tropic and it works. Thanks again for the video✌🏽
I just picked mine up yesterday (#3075). I agree, the bracelet is a bit inflexible, which is a bummer, but I’m sticking with it because I like the look. I saw a comment stating that this watch seems to be out of stock online. I went to a local Seiko dealer to get mine. The jeweler ordered it and it arrived in three days. The jeweler gave me $85 off the list price as well; I didnt haggle, that’s what he offered. I had a similar experience when I bought my SSK001 back in July.
I love the look of the original bracelet, but I actually liked the mesh bracelet the best of the others. It’s a beautiful watch and I love that they stayed true to the original 1968 version…
Love it… you really nailed it with the bracelet choice. Although they have a high limited number I can’t find them available other than from eBay etc. Wonder how this one will look years down the line after some wear.
Saw this watch and immediately liked it. I have a thing for the vintage aesthetic. Now I really want one. That strapcode bracelet is perfect... Great review! Now to try to get one at a good price. Lol.
Sure thing! Yeah I'm glad that I was able to help a bit by showing the other bracelets bc the bad OEM bracelet did take initially ruin the experience a bit which the watch itself didn't deserve! Which bracelet do you think you'll put on it instead?
Bought this a month ago. It works really well but did not like the bracelet. I bought the same bracelet coincidentally, in this video. Now everyone is looking at my wrist!
The Seiko bracelet worked for me, but the quality does lack a but to be desired. Strapcode makes a similar bandoleer strap, *but* the end links are made for the 5KX. It would need straight ends to work. That said, their razor bracelet channels the vibes of Seiko’s razor bracelets for the vintage Seiko 5s.
Thanks Barry I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah given how good the aftermarket support is for bracelets basically all of my seikos are on strapcode or uncle Seiko bracelets. Keeps things interesting as well
Yeah hopefully they release more versions of this bc I love this case and dial combo! And at the moment there seems to be quite a few available which is good. That said while 15,555 sounds like a lot I think we should also bare in mind that there are technically about 4,000 points of sale for seikos in the US and Japan alone. So this isn't that rare for sure but I don't think they'll be forever available brand new
Nice video. I confess I wasn't particularly jazzed by this release and was kind of puzzled by others interest in it Having said that. Your strap choices have shown a different character of the watch I hadn't expected and totally changed my mind on it! 😎👍
Agreed. That oem bracelet looks nice (great actually) but it's inflexibility makes it very uncomfortable. That Asteroid looks great on there, going to pick one up for myself. Thanks for the recommendation.
I yust both wotch yesterday and today purches Milanese bracelet (mesh) and its so so good with that bracelet . Also i hawe some ruber from Garmin 20mm and they are super good only grean militery doesent pass with that watch but all in all watch whic i payed 410-10% 369 and bracelet mesh 40 and it has fast changing its on the nother lewel .
Amusing watching how you used different videos to show the watch…I am guessing because your date changes from English to Spanish…Lunes, Martes Miércoles, Jueves, Sábado..!
Now i understand the point you had with the original bracelet, as it is inherent in the design of it. But, when i watched till the end of your video and you put it on a mesh bracelet. That totally ruined what you said earlier about the oem bracelet, cos the mesh bracelet would totally have the same inherent problem as the oem bracelet. So, how you can use it on the mesh but not the oem totally makes no sense for me.
They went to so much trouble replicating the original, so why oh why didn't they re produce the original slotted bracelet. That would have been the icing on the cake. Great watch nevertheless. I bought two 😞
Great content, but sorry, these other (cheap) bracelets don't look better than the period recreation they provide. Not even close. They look like cheap contemporary bracelets on a super cool 60s watch.
Putting a blingy beads of rice bracelet on this 1968 homage is like putting 20inch aluminium Rims on your 1968 Ferrari Daytona. If you really want to replace the bracelet, stay true to the era and put it on a twist-o-flex or maybe an old submariner bracelet. Polished beads of rice just looks horrible for a watch that is all about the smooth simplicity of the late 1960s sports watch.
Yeah after spending so much time fiddling with the OEM bracelet, rubber straps and the quick release straight end bracelets are staying on forever! Such an awesome watch
