I'm gutted to have bricked this cylinder but I want to find a way to save it. I hope to keep the destruction to a minimum but we'll have to see how it goes! 😭😂

A bow to the master unbricker 🥳! Excellent video and wise words. So glad you saved it and made it whole again! I will remember this when I get one of these and see about learning it. Thank you for sharing the trials and tribulations of picking 🍻✌🏻🌶

Definitely clean job 👌 I wish my local locksmith didn't drill and chew up all the springs when he did such operations😂 I work with him as a certified Locksmith but he is still using old and brute techs 😢😅

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one that has bricked a lock. I was progressively pinning an Abus XP2. I was putting the core back in and one of the holes for a drill protection slug got too close and one of my drivers fired into it. No way to unpick it. I filled the top flat and I'm going to thread the pin chambers and put grub screws in it to get it back into service.

I would use "percussive maintenance" in hand as opposed to a vice and hit the lock the other way round so it moves as opposed to the pins. It's like those little puzzles you get when a kid with stripes that you need to tap on the other side of it than you would think.

Yeah a great point, I did try it the other way too but no joy. Part of me wanted to get the power tools out and teach it a lesson too 🤣👍🏻

Very nice job, exactly the same approaches that came to my mind, one thing of note machinist will often use a brass or copper hammer to prevent making marks on the surface

Funny: Same lock, same experience. I chose the grub screw option but yours with the replaced plugs looks just great! I found that picking of those can range from not too difficult to almost impossible. I am looking forward to your pick video.

Well this is so awesome. Great job and thanks for showing this repair approach to us. I would have gone the grub screw way. I would've bricked it certainly again directly after putting in the fixed plug caps :D

Nicely done Dmac, even though I had seen the positive outcome I was so glad (and slightly impressed, good aim! ) when you hammered that 1st plug in. Looking forward to the picking video now.

Great save of this lock. I have been sent to this video by Mylok as i have bricked my dimple lock i won from Joe Picks. It's sentimental to me so I want to save it non destructively first. I'm going to try all your methods and see how it goes, hopefully i haven't damaged a spring. Thanks for this video, cheers
@Dmaclocksport
@Dmaclocksport Год назад
Best of luck with it. I was told in the comments a few times that my 'percussive maintenance' technique in the video was flawed. It works better to hit the top (bible side) of the lock to bounce the pins up. 😁👍🏻

Very good pointers. I’ve often wondered what types of attacks could fixed a bricked lock. And I always come down to drilling the Bible and grub or plug! . Good stuff👏👏👏😎

Grea6 vid mate. The lockpicker 1969 did a vid on using o rings instead if clips for easy progressive pinning and saves on metal fatigue on the clip. Might be worth knowing 🤜🤛

DMAC you should have held the lock in the upward position with the hammer (the spring-side up) and, once you hit it, the tensioner would eventually turn it.
@Dmaclocksport
@Dmaclocksport Год назад
I did try that too but had no luck. I should've filmed that but only tried after editing that first section. I realise now that the way I filmed most of the percussive maintenance was incorrect, but hey-ho, it's all a learning experience 🙈😁 I think the problem was that the 2 spools really bit into the plug beause of the offset angle of the key control chambers which I showed at the end.

@@Dmaclocksport remember I was going to send you my first CL? Well I messed up big time (even I could pick it!). But when I eventually make it I will send it to you. You're my go-to picker on here. But I'll wait til I'm confident it is a strong lock.

Nice stuff. I thought the key-control pins were in the bottom left side of the keyway: where you pointed @2:53 seems too high.
@Dmaclocksport
@Dmaclocksport Год назад
Cheers. At the end of the video @ 16:45 you can see exactly where they are. They're angled too which I believe was what caused the percussive maintenance to be unsuccessful.

so am having a similar sad assa experience - what size/kind screw did you use to pull out the plug?? looked like the drill bit was a 2? and a wood screw?? of size 3?? Many thank yous....dang it was going so welll
@Dmaclocksport
@Dmaclocksport Год назад
Drill bit was a 1.5mm, not sure on screwsize but it needs to be small enough not to bite into the bible chamber, just the pin. Best of luck! 😁👍🏻
