Too much power or an unfortunate accident? I might try to blame my watts, but there might be another reason for the spoke failure on my carbon Vision SC55 wheels.
The cycling kit I am wearing is kindly provided by Siroko Cycling: if you would like to shop for Siroko kit you can use my direct link to access their website where prices have already been reduced by a further 10% for you, without the need to enter any other codes. You will also help me a little, thank you!

Wattage. Sounds about right. Remember that whatever happens, bike breakage or personal injury, you are obligated to manufacture an entertaining account of the incident. Rehearse the story so it sounds truthful when you tell it. Oh, and make sure to tell it in the proper setting. Nothing ruins a good story more than the arrival of an eyewitness.

It looks like the wheel is built incorrectly, spokes are too short. You can realise it by the place, where spoke is broken. It could happen again, even without jumping. Happy miles, Federico.

Sorry to hear about the broke spoke. I wonder, though, if there is an underlying problem. Clearly you are the most powerful RU-vidr cyclist 😆👍 but I feel the spoke should not have broke... a good wheel like Vision should have taken your power, your weight, and the impact with no issue. If Pearson did not do it, it would be good to do a spoke tension test... on all spokes. Broken spokes are caused by galvanic corrosion, which I do not see, or improper tensioning.
@fede1275
@fede1275 6 месяцев назад
Definitely there is no corrosion there, I've had them less than a year. Maybe tensioning or the pull angle?

Maybe the wheel ran out of true slightly after the jump and the tension change put a high load on one spoke and it can break.

I guess it would depend on the width of the tyre you want to use. These Vision are 19mm internal and 26 external, for me they are perfect with 23c GP5000 tyres, perfect aero transition. They should be okay with 25c, but if you want to run 28c you might need wider rims.

I know it's been a while but how does the velobuild compare to the canyon aeroad you tried out?
@fede1275
@fede1275 6 месяцев назад
Maybe the Aeroad felt stiffer, probably because of the thru axles. But the Velobuild feels more agile and responsive. Both super fast at high speed

come diceva rezzonico, we tutto è bene ciò che finisce bene. con la nuova freccia d'argento a quanto sei arrivato con il dislivello sella /manubrio? vedo che non hai messo nessun spessore ne nella vecchia ne nella nuova.
@fede1275
@fede1275 6 месяцев назад
Per ora mi sono concentrato molto sull'altezza sella e fore/aft, poi misuro il dislivello. Non volevo mettere spessori perché questa è più dedicata all'aero della Canyon Ultimate.

@1:01... I submit this would not have happened with latex tube (or butyl). TPU has very little stretch, essentially none. A sharp compression event will burst a TPU seam whereas latex will stretch and not be bothered. Like tubeless and hookless, TPU is a scam... they cost more but are less good.
@fede1275

Sadly, the roads round here are terrible for pot holes. My Ridenow tubes have survived where conventional tubes would have suffered snake bite over and over again. Will never go back to butyl/latex...

Bummer. Remedy? Upgrade to 32 spokes, or better yet, 36 spokes, threaded cross 3, stainless steel 14 gauge, and tension them to sing the same tone when plucked, and don't look back. Those wheels will climb like bandits and take all the abuse you can hand out. The brake pads will wear out the rim before a spoke breaks. I've replaced rims several times on the same hubs and same spokes! Never broken one. Wheel building seems to have become a lost art.

@@fede1275they are cheaper than you think! I cracked gravel rim, and had a wheel built to my weight with a stronger rim with thinner gauge spokes to allow for flex, counterintuitive, but it works! Find an experienced wheel builder, that’s the hardest part…

Years ago, Colorado Cyclist offered wheels on customer's choice of hubs, rims and spokes. They're were all custom built by hand, so the quality was excellent. I can't believe competent wheel builders, like the one you found, aren't still around.

@paulmcknight4137
@paulmcknight4137 6 месяцев назад
@@fede1275 Frequently, a low tensioned spoke will break at the bend on the hub, from too much flexing. A break at the nipple is usually caused by an impact or twisted spoke, or both. The fewer spokes of course make that more possible. If the mech replaced the spoke and took less than a few minutes to bring the wheel back into true, you're probably in good shape. You could check tension by plucking the spokes and listening for the same tone, which would indicate the load is evenly distributed around the rim.
