Not to be that guy but this bike would've done great if it was tuned right. Jake really didn't want to put it on the trailer and after we got it to Vegas and tuned it's been great.
@@guestappearance3211 I certainly disagree. My right leg gets very hot at stop lights here in Texas. It's not "fine" since they have to run lean to pass emissions. Added a Thai ECU that uses richer fuel map for $100 and now fan doesn't kick on as much. It's a Honda part number.
Man, there's something to be said for just leaving shit alone. Yes you can get more power (0.75hp I hear), but a stock Honda will just go and go and go. Looking forward to the next one :)
Or just giving yourself time to work out any issues. After getting proper tuning I have around 37% more overall power and almost double the power at certain RPMS. At 4-5k stock it was at 12hp and now its 22hp there!
@@TheGardenSnake Wow... that's impressive. I guess those cams actually work! Glad it worked out in the end, it must have been disheartening to do all that work for so little gain.
Peter Jowett: Yep especially if you want the engine to last. You can get a bit more acceleration and speed out of it by losing a few pounds of body weight.
@@TheGardenSnake Yeah adventure, riding on a motorway. Tuning my bike, get more this, need more that, it's all bla, bla, bla. Wanna see adventure on a standard 300, only change the rear sprokket from 40 tot 42. Thats it boys and girls. Itchy Boots a Dutch Girl on a standerd 300 honda bike riding the world, alone, no back-up, no notting, Thats adventure!
This is why I've been wanting so badly for something like a WR450/400R. A decent power thumper with highway bike service intervals. Yamaha nailed it with the WR250R engine (mine has 17K trouble free miles), and I don't see any reason they couldn't make a 400 or 450 with the same concept. Unfortunately, I think emissions regulations have killed any dream of that happening. Modding a small 250-300cc engine and going long hours on the highway is just begging for trouble. Unless it's more of a weekend toy, it's better left alone.
Ahh duuuude, that really sucks. Am looking forward to your vids showing what broke if you have them coming, hope you were able to salvage something from the trip though. Ace to see Dork again in your vids 🙂
@@TheGardenSnake How do you know that it's turned properly now? Because it was good in the beginning and once you changed elevations I guess that's when you had issues? Did you ride at the same elevation once you got it retuned?
There is something incredibly satisfying on going a long way on a small displacement motorcycle.I hate that things went south for you. Can you revert back to the factory tuning?
My most memorable adventure rides is when the plan goes to shit. Side of the road running repairs challenges the brain. Be sympathetic to your ride and she will reward you. Best of luck.
Man this looks like so much fun/ Such a beautiful place, and those fuel prices! Gosh, I miss those days. Holy shit, those lorries/trucks are terrifying. Bigger and much faster than we get in the UK. If my maths is right, my car has a 37 litre (8 gallon) tank and costs me about £70 to fill it at yesterday's price of £1.90. In freedom coins, that's ~ $84.
You make great videos! I have a similar Baofeng radio. What do you use it for? Do you use it to communicate with other motorcycle riders? How do you connect the radio to your helmet? Thanks
I used an SR10 to connect it with my Bluetooth. It was so I could stay connected to everyone in the convoy. By the end it was two motorcycles, an RV and a car.
I have always found the lack of under-run bars on US trucks a little disconcerting, especially when on a bike. I assume that your issue is a little self-inflicted and that a stand 300L wouldn't have had the issue. Finally, have you installed a temp gauge? All my 300 Rally has is an over-temp light.
Yeah I don;t love that about our trucks myself. The tuning issues are definitely self inflicted which was a big part of why I was so disappointed with everything. I had considered waiting to do all the power mods till after this trip just incase something didn't go right. I know better too so it's just bad moves on my part. I did install a water temp gauge, it's hard to see with the gps tower on. Heres that video, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YV_F8jazeeI.html
Hello, do you have vibration problems with the "Adventure Spec mini fairing"? Mine when you go on roads and forest slopes vibrates a lot and one day the mobile phone will fly. Thank you.
The thing I've learnt about the Honda 250r engine is that they suck, crank bearing, cam bearings improper clearance. And I believe it's the same as your unit. Pull the clutch cover bet you find bearing material on the pickup screen...
However lots of these bikes seem to hit over 90,000km no issue and when opened up still have life left. I think the proof is in the pudding. That's for the crf250l's (first gen 2015 style).
My 2012 Aprilia Tuono V4 gets to 230*. Fan doesn’t come on until it reaches 212*. I consider this to be very bad but its been running for 10 years. Wish I could get the damn thing to run cooler. It runs at 167* on the open road but all bets are off around town in traffic.
I don't think there's been a single long distance trip that I've taken where it didn't start out in the rain. Its like the riding gods love to see you suffer a tiny bit to see your dedication. Why did you guys not crash in the camper?
Should have just put the stock ECU back in or not messed with it in the first place. When you're shooting for reliability, you just leave it stock goal is to get there.
@@TheGardenSnake yeah, the best tank I've had on my 250 Rally was 78 mpg entirely in the city at 50 mph or less. The worst so far was 62 mpg cruising pretty much the whole tank at 70 mph. The range difference is 205 miles vs 160 miles. With earplugs and the windscreen/fairing on the Rally, 70 isn't really any more tiring. You get to stop every just over 2 hours to stretch your legs, have a drink, have a piss. Say 15 min. At 50 mph it's over 4 hours between refuelling, and you probably want a mid-stint break *anyway*. So a 600 mile day at 70 mph is three 15 min stops, while at 50 mph it's only two fuel stops, but three more rest breaks for a total of five. And four hours more elapsed time 13.5 hours vs 9.5 hours). Totally worth the extra $9 in fuel.
I think a ktm or husky 690 enduro is a better candidate for a do it all bike, it may be double the price, but it's better spent, way better residuals too
There's a 1980 Honda XL185 for sale close to me for $2000, I wish I could go buy it. It makes twice the power of a Grom and has a 32.3 inch seat height.. I could probably put around town on it now problem.. I think it'd be great to have a little bike to tool around on and tinker on.. I have no need to go fast on a motorcycle anymore, with my random dizzy spells it's far safer to be going slower so I have time to stop before it hits. (I have no clue why I get them, possibly my blood pressure meds, possibly my brain defect, possibly the skin cells growing in my mastoid bone... who knows) OMFG! Parts for those things are cheap as hell! A full big bore kit with a new cylinder if $60! I guess they share their engine with the ATC three wheeler... which means you could actually convert it over to a centrifugal clutch if you wanted to. A dirty injector/carb can cause you to have lean conditions at part throttle too.
Damn that mileage is whack. My 2018 crf250l rally gets about 150 miles of range on a tank and I live up in yhe rockies at 10k ft. Also have air box mod, tune and ejk
Looks like you had a good time other than the bike issues on being lean? Rich it up a lil bro. Lol beautiful views in this too. Stay shiny and chrome, jake jake.🤝
A little but not as bad as you’d think, however I use my traditional street helmet for lots of highways use and I use my motocross helmet for when I know I’m going off-road, mostly because goggle work better for keeping dust out of your eyes
5:53 people who can't properly park or turn a big truck shouldn't drive a big truck. Everyone in Texas driving a pickup pulls out way too wide like that smh
Not that its the same thing but my 2010 honda 250 r gets the worst fuel mileage imaginable i can just get threw a 30 minimum moto on a tank of gas the frame on the bike has 50 hours and the motor has 15 hours on it with a high compression piston yoshi cam and exhaust
Bahaha saw that too. Saw a dude spell somersault "summer salt" yesterday. Been some absolute head scratchers of late. Like you've posted this on the internet, the same place where it takes five seconds to check the spelling of a word you're unsure of.
Yea, when the average 'murican tries to outsmart a couple hundred japanese engineers with sloppy attempts at tuning and ghetto mods... What could go wrong, eh? But, but... Look at my dyno charts! Who cares about long term reliability! Whaaat? Smarter people just regear or (god forbid) buy a more powerful bike instead of messing with the engine? Impossible!!!
You modded your bike into unreliability. You're laughing and cracking jokes around some other dude who's trying to fix his broken bike. Five minutes later your bike is being loaded up and hauled off. You should buy a Prius and do hybrid car videos. Your level of ass hattery would fit that scene a lot better.
I think "itchy boots" here has the same bike and literally riding across the world i wonder what she gets per tank🤔 Carhartt makes a good fleece face mask 🤌
She probably weighs less and isn't pushing more fuel and air into her cylinder if her bike is supposedly stock. You give and you take. If they raced their bikes it might be a draw for all we know because Jake weigh more so he'd lose to small female unless he added power.
