Hey Jon, You might want to dig around the stump, expose the roots and use a chain saw to either cut it out or cut it down below the top of the lawn; just a thought!!
On many of these, they use a lower grade bolt protect the axle. They don't really call this out in the manual, just expecting you to replace with the same type of bolt. Hammers and bolts are field replaceable, but if the damage transfers to the attachment point on the axle, it'll require some welding. If not done so, it might be worth double checking the grade on the other bolts and replacing with like kind.
I've lost several nuts on mine. I replace them with nylon locknuts. When I checked, they were almost all loose. I have the upgraded hammers, haven't broken any yet, I go through some pretty tough stuff too!
Yeah I think you've sold me on the flail mower Jon, now I just need to find one! Cheers buddy, all the best to the family! 🌴🇨🇦🚜🇺🇸 Probably time to change out all the bolts.
Also make sure the bolt will fill the hole bc it will start to wallow the hole like the smaller bolt did i have the one wjth the rods and they under sized the rob and was messing up the holes
Thank you for following through and testing for us what many of us were wondering! But the bolts prob broke because they were weakened by the extreme heat.
😮all I can say is send the bill to the guy that said you could grind stumps with a flail mower. I think the big difference is in RPM and type of cutting knives. It’ll be ok ! Now you know it can’t be done ! Have a Blessed Day my friend!
Ha flail mower for tree stumps? I dig around a very little with a shovel and cut off even with then top of the ground with a chain saw works good every time
How's she gon'? This was a good idea right up to the part where you engaged the PTO!! LOL Flail mowers are some nice and do a great job and now you know they won't cut stumps. You could say it got stumped by the stump!! LOL Take care!!
I am getting ready to purchase a BX23S. The PTO horse power is 17.7. I think your Flail mower is rated at 20 hp and up. Have you had any trouble with power when mowing? I really want a Flail mower but the dealer keeps telling me the BX23S doesn’t have enough power.
It depends. Your BX absolutely will spin it up and run it just fine but the denser the material you mow, the more loading you put on the tractor which means it runs out of power sooner. Technically you could probably run a 60" flail which calls for 22+HP, just as long as you don't try and mow down the amazon or something.
I had a 42 but then switched to a 47 because I found that if the bar over hangs a little I can overlap some of the attachments. Works great for me. Keep on tractoring!
Good video showing what not to do with a flail mower.. and I think David from @rcaf polar express would be happy to see the yellow black safety stripes!
Man you was acting like the flail mower was made by STARK INDUSTRIES or something. 🤣🤣🤣 Like you said "lucky you." I mean hey its NOT a stump grinder. A simple hand held grinder with the wood shaving wheel wouldve been enough to tear that little stump tp shreds. AND YOU DID IT TWICE!!! lmao
Now you have to hole in your wallet. I think that you should have used the bucket 🪣. Unfortunately I don't think that they designed it for stump grinder. I think that you should think before actually doing something stupid..
@@ritterjon it is a completely different type of bi5 that is used in stump grinders. They even have issues with stumps. I think that you should just stick with the bucket 🪣 .
