I'm just getting into running, and even 5k runs are kicking my butt. Seeing people like you do 100 mile runs is just in another universe, I'm so impressed! Thanks for making such an inspiring video.
I started running 2 years a go. In 2 months I'm doing my first 50 mile ultra. You'll improve at a rate you cannot imagine currently as long as you are consistent and challenge yourself from time to time
Just finished the video! Excellent edit 👏🏽 What a trooper, to turn the shivering situation at margaritaville into a 100 mile finish 🤯 Fair play 🔥👊🏽 Big props to J&A’s crewing too
I’m in tears watching this video. It’s so beautiful seeing your wife & brother in law support you. You are incredible Dave- never forget that!! Congratulations!!
"Some days are easy and some days are just to finish is to win" - wise words! You're crazy man, congratulations, you're a GOAT 💪🏼 Glad you documented all the way, it shows how brutal it was 😵💫
Congrats!! Great video, and great race!! I was the brunette with the clip board at the timing tent. When you sat in the chair and said you thought your ankle was swollen, I looked down and was like "OH yeah...!" Ouch! I wish I'd realized it was you! That's such a cool race, I hope to both run and ride it in the next few years. Looking forward to your next video!
Oh man, going off course down that hill. Awesome work getting this done. Great summation of a brutal race! And here's to the crew that stays up with you and makes it happen!
What a beast. 40 ain’t got nothing on you. You still got it! We wanna see that body battery recovery and how many days it took you to become “balanced” again on that HRV stress score. I’m always interested to see that process! I just finished my third ever 100 mile bike ride so it is hard to wrap my head around running that same distance. Amazing accomplishment!
@@nostoneunturned6291 haha the body battery reported “5” for 3 days and then started to creep back up. Good idea though. Could be an interesting video!
Even the thoughts of a 100-mile distance sends shiver down my spine, not to mention running such a race. I remember myself crossing the finish line at a marathon one month ago. I planned to finish the marathon fresh enough to continue my training plan (that wasn't the main race this year). But something went wrong... My family said that I looked like a mad hedgehog after the finish line (don't ask why hedgehog:))). That was only 26.2 miles. A 100-mile race is a big deal. That's cool! Congratulations!
Great great video, Dave. You are a warrior. My family also echoes that you have that non-Dad body. My youngest was like, "Wow, he is kind of ripped. It is not clear from his videos." I might be a lot slower and hit my low points at different times, but I went through a lot of the same in my race. I think the two things about the temp was the humidity was really high this year and the lack of wind throughout almost 90 something percent of the course. I also went through shivering while being hot at various times. It is super tough on crew and pacers. Also, after camp 10 bear, there is a good almoat 2 mile stretch all put in the sun with a descent climb after it mostly in the sun, which makes it super hard. Volunteers and race organizers and Amy are just awesome! Sorry for the long long post. Like others said, you really captured this race well. Great job with the new style.
Well done, "we sign up for these things because we love hard things" . I've done 9 Comrades ultras (90km) and I keep going back, I'm turning 40 in November and I'm thinking about my 1st 100 mile in July 2025.
Great job finishing that race. And we sign up for these races and go through the pain because we love it. We will say never again 100 times during the race, and the next day we are scanning google for the next ultra marathon.
Awesome grind out there! That course is awesome, and the horses really make it memorable. I van still hear that sub 24 calling your name, keep crushing!
Very motivational! I'm dreading a marathon that I have coming up in October. So far, I'm dealing with one setback after another, and this video has motivated me to push through.
Never done a 100 miler but did one race with 111km. Know that feeling about having ups and downs and a crew to support! Congrat for the acheivement of the 3rd 100 miler!
Great honest feedback here. Love the support with family. Good ideas on recovery like take a break, broth or noodles, and love the grit. I’m training for my second 100 and would like to go under 30 hours. But I struggle with confidence.
Congratulations again Dave from runner #281 just finished before you (literally). Looking forward to running into you in future ultra races (and formally introduce myself) and keep the great videos coming!!
Wonderful video 😃👍🏃♂️. Big congratulations on your finish! You’re definitely made of iron …..with what you were going through early on in the race, and to finish! Inspiring 🙂👍.
On a 50+ mile race, same thing happened, but when I talk to them found out that they even made their hydration fuel at about less than half strength. since then I just bring my own and now I’m a little bit more fat adapted so now probably would work fine. but at that point, I wasn’t ready for that and it destroyed me. Great video I’ve always heard a lot about that race. I guess that’s one good point that these races are every year there’s always redemption but you’re finished. Congratulations. I never even attempted to do a sub 24 so
Way to bounce back from such a low! I saw you sitting at margaritaville with that giant bowl of fruit, but think you had already gotten through the worst of it. You cruised by me sometime in last 10 miles and looked awesome. Always fun to finish strong!
Really enjoyed this video. I have my first solo endurance run this coming weekend. 12 hours. Do as many 3 mile loops as possible. I have no idea what to expect. But I'm looking forward to seeing what I'm capable of and learning how to improve.
Amazing amazing amazing. Walking the talk. Legit! Sincerely, a fellow masshole who understands trail running up here (but goes nowhere near as far as you) 👍
By the way. I learned there is a crew and no crew race. A few years ago I meet the winner of both from the crew and non crew at an ultra talk. I give you credit for finishing
what a great video Dave! Loved how it was more like a movie!! What a job to you and your crew! That race is no joke and you finished no matter what the time you finished and thats what counts! They say behind every great man is an even better women You have a great wife there!
It is alway inspiring to see ordinary people doing extraordinary things. That was motivating, warts and all. And it was worth all your suffering to come up with “Chafe the Summit. “😊 PS. Your wife must be a SAINT!
