There such a mellow animasl .Sad that his father let his child pick it up with out any real knowledge of the opossum. The video is funny but completely wrong
Be good to that possum. He will be your boots on the ground free pest control service! He rids the yard of dangerous ticks and poisonous vermin. God’s little servant. 😊
they eat more ticks than u realize. there is no legit way to know how many they eat but we do know they will eat any of them that they find. they are a very well known pest control animal. i use them myself for that very reason. my cats suck at doing the job so the wild possums so it instead. they do ward off snakes and do eat tons of ticks each year. test it urself, if u ever find a wild possum in ur yard, start feeding it so it will come around more often. then when it does notice how many ticks u get on urself vs before u have said animal in ur yard a lot. ull notice its FAR less than it was before. so while they may not eat 5000 ticks each year as they claim, they do eat a good amount of them non the less.@@seandewar47
@@davidarwood6264 I mean hey impressive feats have lasting effects. Mainly when it comes to memories. Years from now they’d be like “remember when you creeped mom out with that possum”
Opossums are quite nice actually! No joke, they're almost always docile and never really bite even when pushed to the limits. They'll snarl and scream like demons, but it's all just a display. They have a super weak bite force, almost never get rabies because of their low body temperatures, and apparently they eat tons of bad pests like tics. Honestly, no reason to bother these little dudes typically. They're probably my favorite animals aside from crows/ravens.
I raised an opossum named Mr. Beans. He is an ambassador for his species, and is the star in multiple shows and educational programs. They love mice and rats too! Playing dead isn’t something they control. When backed into a corner they autonomically pass out for up to 4 hours to as little as a couple minutes, depending on the circumstances and conditions. ❤ Thank you for helping spread this information!
They can actually carried a lot of other diseases despite not having rabies. Not wise for the boy in this video to carry the opposum like that. At least wear gloves
problem with that is that even when u push them beyond their limits, they still most of the time refuse to bite unless they just happen to see a good chance to strike which isnt often for them. ur more likely to get sick from an old knife blade that cut u than a possum bite. they are quite clean animals even tho they dont always smell like it.@@ShadowGin3
@@roseabee7503 They bite as a last resort and they have 50 sharp teeth, if it bit this kid, they’d try to kill it when it wouldn’t be its fault. Leave the wild animals be.
THEY DO BITES, I TRY TO SCARE THE WHITE POSSUM AWAY, IT GOT ANGRY AND CAME RUNNING AT ME SO I PICK UP A BIG ROCK TO SCARE THEM AWAY AGAIN AND IT TOOK OFF RUNNING CLIMBING UP THE TREES AT NIGHT
If nobody ever caught and handled animals, we would know nothing about them. We wouldn't get anywhere close to learning about new species. Perhaps that boy has an interest in animals and will have a career in biology or zoo in his future. Meanwhile, all you can do is complain about a young kid doing something dumb on the internet. 😊
No no the Little man didn't hurt the animal he handled it with care and I'm sure he let it go after scarring his MOM a little bit .nice to see him playing outside and learning about wildlife instead of a video game in his hand much Respect to this family for bringing there boys up the right way
it can cause spinal damage to carry him like that. it is very rare for opossums to carry rabies because their body temp is too low. just pick it up please.
The tail is very sensitive and is only used as a stabilizer. The boy almost got bit cause it was in pain and scared. Screaming doesn't help and in full lighted room to boot. Not cool.
That’s some real southern shit bc my wife would have leaped in the air screamed. Told my kids to run for there lives. Cursed me out for bringing rabies in the house and threatened to leave me in a divorce 😂
@@spencerneal26 they actually don't. . What happens is they go into shock and actually pass out.. They do say they are playing dead yes but they aren't acting they go into a state of shock. Playing dead is an involuntary response on the part of the opossum. The stress of the confrontation facing the opossum causes him to go into shock. This shock induces a comatose state that can last from 40 minutes to four hours.
Okay so as someone whose actually encountered feral possums, don't fucking hold em like a puppy because again they are wild animals and will bite you. You can even see in the video the possum lunging at the kid I've had one bite a crowbar I put next to it. I love possums but the ones your talking about being held like a puppy have to be domestic or raised from early age. So don't listen to either one of these people they aren't puppies you wanna grab with both hands freely.
Slow possums are not as slow as you think they are sure most of the time they just kind of Link along not moving very fast reach down and grab one by the tail it can whip around and have you like that this is a country kid he knows what the hell he's doing us country boys grow up like that but don't think that possum wouldn't mess you up if it got the second it needed to get you yeah they're not slow
@@ARandomTexan yeah the fuck it is. He ain’t hurting it. He’s just holding it. He’s a kid, kids do dumb shit sometimes but that’s what parents are for. Now leave me be 😎
@@ARandomTexan yeah & I’m sure the parents knew that which makes them assholes but I’m laughing at the comment not the situation. Just report the video if you didn’t like it. Don’t act up 😆
The mother’s reaction is relatively calm. If most sons did that, they could have their mothers in a hostage like situation and get anything they want from her (video games ordered, favorite pair of expensive sneakers, pizzas ordered, etc)…I mean once the mothers feel the coasts are clear and the possums are put away there’ll be a spike in the obituary business, but hey 🤷🏾♂️
they are not abusing this possum. it’s called scruffing, mothers do it with their babies (most common in cats and ferrets) and it’s a perfectly safe way to handle a possum. the animal isn’t in pain.
@yiggityyiggity69 yeah but that tail lift can't be good for them. They're not any kind of reptile, let alone one of the handful of reptiles that can regrow their tails. Even if they're prehensile
He's a good kid why? His parents should be telling to leave the poor animal alone. I teach my kids to treat all animals how you would like to be treated. Whats actually good about this??
Actually know what you mean. Some can be mostly black with the typical white faces. I'm raising three orphaned babies at the moment though none are black. I saw most black ones when I lived in Missouri, even a white one near a street in West Plains years ago.
That's how young men played in my day. Wild animals, spiders, snakes, etc were cool and any boy who picked them up became a God on the playground. Bravo to that young man!💯
Possums are probably one of the most misunderstood animals out there. They can look really vicious, but biting you is the last thing they want to do. Plenty of common neighborhood animals will bite you long before a possum does.
Yeah but it’s not really a good enough reason to treat a wild life like it’s safe. We play by different rules than they do as cute or whatever they are to people.
@@Sorry-Sir_butNahwhy is he picking it up and bringing the animal into the house to show it off for hen? Just leave the animal alone! Possums are harmless and gentle. We need to respect them.
Wild Possums are unpredictable and have razor-sharp teeth. They can tear you up. On the plus side, if you have Possum around, you won't have Skunks. Possums chase Skunks away.
So SAD the way you are treating the Opassum, its not ok to be Abusive toward animals. The same way you would not like anyone to treat you in a abusive way, animals feel the same. So SAD your parents are not teaching you to treat Animals with Love and Respect. Abuse is Not funny!!!
👍🏾that's what I was thinking. She's a brave mama too. I would have been screaming all over the place🤦🏾♀️. They seem like a beautiful family though🙏🏾🤗.
i saw one and i got scared asf😂it was probably just as scared as i was tho. i was standing next to a bush on my phone, look to my right and just see it sitting there with its teeth showing. it wasnt moving but i took no chances and ran😭
First of all they are not toys, leave the wildlife outside your house. Its not happy and you're not cool. Parents teach your kids to respect wildlife. It's your duty to understand the safety of the animals and your children.
I am trying so hard to catch this big one I saw at my friends next door neighbor’s house. I called it’s babies like the mom would with the clicking noise but they pop their heads out from under the house, discover I’m not the mom and run back in I wanted to catch the huge mom but I only see her come and go too quickly. How you catch this one?
3 grown man called me outside to the dumpster at work to take care of a "problem". Turned out there was a very small possum. I laughed and gave it a chicken nugget and went back inside.
Not trying to be rude but that is an opossum. Not a possum. Possums have fluffy tails and opossums have no hair on their tail.they also have different colors
