My Grandad raised sheep. He had heard the animals like music so he wired up a radio in the barn. But it didnt work out. The radio station kept playing that new hit 'Aint never gonna be another ewe' and his prized ram killed himself. !
I am thinking Jacobs. But I really like the Cotswold. The Bob Marley of the sheep world. . Iceland sheep seem to spend the winter inside. Perhaps you should try a Herdwick, they spend the winter on the mountains.
Hi Neline! I think it's wonderful that you bought a pair of Icelandics! Diversifying your stocks (goats and sheep in this case) is a sound business plan. Our environment is rapidly changing and agriculture needs to adapt to these changes in order to survive and thrive. I keep up with the wine industry and I know that this is the case; many growers are switching up the grape varietals they grow in order to adapt to the changes and invest in their future. I'm excited to see how your sheep-venture (lol) evolves. Congrats on the new (or should I say ewe lol) additions! They are a very handsome pair. :) Please say hello to Whimsy for me. :) Cheers and stay cool and hydrated!
Just go in there and sit with them once quarantine is up and before going into a big pen. I love valais blacknose breed but 4500/ embryo is way out of my league.
Please don’t relax your guard around that ram! Rams are no joke and nothing like buck goats, they can really cause some pain! One ram I had was so bad I only kept him long enough to breed the girls, then he went off to the sale! Good luck with them, they’re beautiful 👍
Those purple bell flowers you showed are extremely invaisive, each stock can contain 15 000 seeds and it spreads by roots underground too. pretty but bad.
With the bug-eyed calves the only potentially troubling indicators are if it's connected to an IBR infection or to traces of antibiotics in the milk or colostrum being fed to them. Otherwise, most people seem to find they're no special trouble. The sheep seem like a good option for your climate. i guess you need to learn how to shear them eventually?
Howdy Nadine, I hope ya'll are doing well, staying cool, My guess as to what kind of sheep your getting, is the four legged kind...oh, and hairy....am I right ?? Stay safe, God Bless and Farm on my Friends
