Practice...touching her Nails / paws now...even if she doesn't need her nails trimmed. Haha. > I did Not do this when my first dog was young...ugh. He hated getting his nails trimmed...for the rest of his life. This was a nightmare for the both of us. (make a crappie experience, a good experience..... treats when nail trimming etc.)
As you know....Socialization when Young is Key: Animals, People, Children, Car rides, baths (already) Socialization involves exposing your young puppy to a range of different experiences. Acclimated to all types of sights, sounds, and smells in a positive manner. Proper socialization can prevent a dog from being fearful of children, for example.
*Perfect choice for your farm, Neline. ✔ You did your research ✔ that breed is smart ✔training all ready. ✔She is a beautiful and an 'extremally healthy' looking pup. ✔ > She is your first baby and of course well cared for ...but don't spoil her too much. Haha. (Just like kids...say what you mean And...mean what you say. = Follow through! Say it once (most of the time, when she is older.) and Follow through. I've see some pet owners (and even parents!) ask them to do something.... 12 times.
We raise border collies. I wish I could have given one to you. Ours herd cows, hogs and chickens. They use as much pressure as they need too. So if they need to hang off the end of a bulls nose they will. Or they will never even open their mouths when pushing chickens lol. Completely duel purpose. ❤️😉
you will never ever will have a better friend than a dog , working dog or not they will be your best friend ever. Take that from a person who has dogs and knows the love between them and you
Crate training is an essential aspect of creating a safe space for a dog, no matter where they are. Rookie is going to be a constant companion for me, even off farm, so it’s important for her to have a “portable” safe space. Also in the event of an unfortunate disaster (ie fire, tornado, etc) it’s very helpful for her to be crate trained so that she’s not more stressed. Crate training should be included in every dog’s training in my opinion. If you don’t agree, that’s totally fine, just realize that this is my way of setting up my dog for success even in the worst situations.
Oh one other thing exercise everyday walks, runs or bike rides. They are great friends and they will pick there alpha leader weather that will be male or female. And so loyal you will love her for sure but she will repay that in spades.
YEARS AGO, We were visiting Virginia City, Nevada and the old stagecoach road which the silver miners rode into town is now a historical trail. We drive a Jeep so of course we drove the old trail down the mountain to Washoe Lake. Along the way, we rounded a corner and came upon a big herd of sheep. SUDDENLY, out of the midst of the herd came a sheep dog tearing towards us. He skidded to a stop just off our front bumber and started barking up a storm. He kept looking over his shoulder keeping track of his sheep. He made it plain we were to wait until his sheep had crossed the trail before he was going to let us proceed. By & by, the last lamb crossed and he turned and ran to join them as they all we going up a hill. There was NO shepard with this herd, it was all the dog. Aparently that dog was so good at herding the owner trusted him and him alone to herd the sheep to where they were going. VERY impressive. Now there a good dog. !
Puppy tummies! You have so much animal experience that you will have a wonderful companion for years. The choice of breed is like getting the right piece of equipment for the farm. Enjoy, she is yummy! 🐾
I’m 71 & Aussies (or Aussie mixes), have been my breed of choice forever. A well bred Aussie will have a lot of energy, but will be able to relax and chill (unlike the intensity of a BC). My dogs were super intelligent, loyal, friendly to everything we introduced as part of the family including; cats, chickens, rabbits, calves, kids (both species) lambs and even a fawn!
Hi, she is adorable. I have an Aussie also. Best dogs!! They do have a medicine resistance issue sometimes. Can be tested thru Washington State University in the US. My baby girl was negative, thank god. Piece of advice, get a good vacuum 🤣🤣🤣
Neline! She is ADORABLE! GREAT choice on an Aussie Shepherd! She will be a wonderful livestock herding dog and a great family pet, too! :) What a great addition to your farm and household! :)
Rookie is just a big ball of cuteness. Welcome buddy we get to watch you grow, learn and grow. You’re in good hands. This whole family are extremely good with all animals they have.
Hi Rookie, welcome to the channel. I had a Blue Heeler for 17 years, the key to dealing with high intensity dogs is to give them something to focus that intensity on.
