In this video I go to Harry's Coin Shop and get an appraisal on some crazy coins that I brought in. I brought fake coins, old coins, rare silver coins, world coins, error coins, and even a gold coin as well. I was wanting to see if they would spot the fake silver coins. I was surprised by the results of the appraisal and had a great time seeing the process. If you are wanting to take coins to a local coin shop or to a bullion dealer for appraisal then this is the video for you. I love making these coin shop videos and I hope you like watching them as well. These coin appraisal videos have been some of my best ever and the playlist of them is below:

German guy here. The most important thing about atrocities committed by any country in the past is to remember them, in order to make sure they will never repeat in the future. That is why Germans study their own history intensely and it wouldn't be of any concern whatsoever to study all aspects of that time in order to understand and prevent the repetition of what has happened. To sell these coins means to keep history in the minds of people, and if only one person is inspired to learn more through seeing or owning such a coin about that dark time in history, it's already a small victory for freedom, democracy and justice. We haven't yet overcome our pasts, and the importance of critically looking at all our countries pasts cannot be overstated. We need relics of that time to tell tales, that is why in Germany we preserved what was left of many concentration camps, in order to create a place of remembrance and warning. And that is how I see that coin as well. A token of remembrance and warning. To never again let hatred dominate, for mankind should be about compassion, about learning and about understanding. sincerest - a modern day German.

Good for you, Harry, and good for your brother-in-law. Most of the Nazi coins in the USA were brought here by soldiers who fought the Nazis and took them home as souvenirs. They can be collected as symbols of the American men whose sacrifices ended up saving the remnants of the European Jews. Happy Hanukkah! P.S. I just phoned the shop and bought some of those lovely Mercury dimes and Morgans. HARRY'S IS THE BEST!!

My grandfather brought back some of those coins from WWII. he landed at Normandy on D-Day and fought against the Germans. He brought back other “trophies”, too. The reason I like having things from the third Reich is because it’s an intimate part of my family’s history; both of my grandfathers fought against the Axis powers. I have US stuff from WWII as well, but the Axis stuff I have is just as special to me because the entire war is something that deeply reshaped the psychology and ultimately the direction of my family. My other grandfather saw horrible things in the war and returned with mental illness. When I see Axis coins, or my German Luger, or the SS Bayonet, I’m reminded of the pain that my forefathers endured and overcame, and there is a solemn pride in knowing that my ancestors overcame that.

Harry’s shop episodes are so great. They really make my lunch breaks better. You can tell he and his crew are good people. Thanks Silver Dragon for the great and interesting content. P.S. when I inherited my grandad and great uncles collections. They had lots of Nazi and pre Nazi coins. I questioned myself with them as well. After talking to my mom she told me they were bring backs. Made me feel a lot better knowing my great uncle had brought them back while he was over there!

They sure would be nice in my collection now. There are a lot of people related or indirectly related to someone who lived thru those times, too. Coins are coins, dark times or not.

My Grandfather brought back plenty of souvenirs in 1945, and didn’t sell them until the mid 90’s. He had stories to go along with it, and despite the dark history of the pieces, they were just that, history, which is the most important part. Without these pieces, we would eventually forget, it only takes a few generations. Growing up around this mentality has made me fascinated with history as I get older. Those decommissioned denomination pieces are just fascinating, seeing the shift from having a few cents in your pocket was like having a wallet full of cash today, making them obsolete, I would love to see an entire episode talking about out those.

In 1852, three cents was the postage rated for a half-ounce carried less than 3000 miles -- IF you prepaid the postage. If you sent the letter unpaid, the rate was five cents to be collected from the recipient. It was not until 1855 that prepayment of postage by postage stamp was mandatory. Three cents was actually a reduction in postage rates from the first US postage stamps in 1847, when it was five cents. Eventually, the regular letter rate dropped to two cents and the weight allowance went up to one ounce nationwide. Greater literacy and commerce led to more letters and more efficient postal operations to allow for a considerable decrease in the real cost of sending mail. The last time the regular letter rate was the cents was in 1958. After that, the nominal price went up ever more frequently to match post-WWII inflation.
