In this episode I build an automated, rotating platform for displaying props, items for photography, or your wife! A small AC gear motor rotates this hand built platform and allows you to display or photograph in style!
Thanks to Secret Admiral and Chris Haugen for the music in this episode.

For those of you looking for something less fun to build (ie easier) a swivel chair might be recycled. use the bearing from the chair, cut things down and bolt your platform to it, and make a base. Now i feel silly cause it took watching 5 different videos on turntables plus rockler bearings and this to realized it!

RU-vid suggested the DND table build but this one is just as fun. Hope you get an increase in subs as you deserve it. You know what you're doing while crafting, invest a bit more time in filming the process of making the project. Close ups, call out to techniques and tools used, specific variations of the tools, techniques and such if someone decides to copy you at any point. Floating explanation text e.g time it takes to do a certain part, tools, materials, cost and such. More details in the video details section of the parts (potentially a good thing to do if you want to do affiliates). Awesome content, keep up the good job

Great build! How about a adaption from steady base that has a rotating pivot arm to hold a camera or smartphone to shoot a bullet time video? Your model can definitely be adapted. Check 360 photo booth if needed

I've been contemplating a project like this forever! May I ask what kind of motor you went with and how much weight you think it might support?
@MoreToolsThanSense
@MoreToolsThanSense 2 года назад
I bought a 60W motor with a gear reducer that brings it down to 135RPM max. It's plenty strong to turn me but I'm only ~160lbs. I tried to load my go-cart on there and it struggled, with the limiting factor being the grip of the rubber "tire" on the drive wheel. So I think the motor is appropriately sized but you would likely have to find a better way to get grip on the platform if you want to turn more than 250? 300? lbs. Good luck!

I am doing this build and may change a few things. I did find the motor used in the video I believe based on the looks of it and the description provided in the thread. Amazon for $105.89. Link (non referral) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09LV1P1WT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What is the size of your 2 pulleys and how did you do so that your pulley does not scratch with the outer brackets of the engine? Did you increase the height of the pulley or add the pulley on top of your part that goes over the engine?

I noticed the hole in the center on the top after the laminate what function does it serve that it still shows? Nice video!
@MoreToolsThanSense
@MoreToolsThanSense 2 года назад
One of it's main functions is so I can see the centering pin when I put the top back on. But I can also screw a large bolt into it and later I will add a "Stand" for holding various props.

I want to build one, but I don't have access to a workshop or tools. Actually, I bet I could rent power tools at the nearest home depot. But where can I find an AC motor?

Any big box hardware store. But I don't recommend the premade table top because of the warping. stick to manufactured plywood.

Interesting. So theoretically... Hypothetically.... Could one.. modify this with a variable speed motor to say... Spin a human anywhere from 30-70rpms. Sounds ridiculous but coming up with new acts and equipment for circus. Needing a rotating platforms that is motor assisted that allows an athlete to hold and elbow/headstand while rotating. If let's say this is possible.. what motor would one look for? Also the athlete by changing their own shape (starting wide and ending small) would increase the speed of the platforms rotation but I wonder if that would have any effect on the motor. As I'm sure there might be resistance.
@MoreToolsThanSense
@MoreToolsThanSense Год назад
That seems pretty dicey, if I'm being honest. and you would likely need am much bigger motor that spins at around 1000rpm. Or more likely use a powerful motor that's geared down to around the 30-70 rpm and use some sort of chain drive. This design here would not be up to the task of those speeds.
