The way you diligently build, compose, and edit everything in harmony is so satisfying. I had to replay the rhythmic stapling edit several times... It just hit so good!
99% youtubers would say (See? Just perfect!!!, Full Absorption) and Brandon says (Still pretty Bad, but it's better) just, honest about things, that's why i like your videos, Honest and real, like normal people like us. Thanks for your honest, real world, real issues in life and drums videos.
Amazing work Brandon! Just one critique: if you make it so the panels stand-off the wall by a couple of inches you can double their absorption efficiency :)
Ha ha ha, "Deal with it!", hilarious. Man, you are so handy. The cloud will be sick. Bass traps are great, basically double thick panels in the corners. Also, If you hang the panels with a gap between them and the wall they work better. Much love, my friend. stoked to see you prospering.
Honestly blackout curtains help a lot with reflections especially if the curtains are long enough to cover the window floor to ceiling and still be “wavy” if that makes sense… Plus curtains are adjustable and more aesthetically pleasing. Though There are still going to be a bunch of reflections unless you really focus on surrounding the whole kit and not just 2 or 3 walls. The little sound foam panels do work for high frequency reflections, they’re just not good at stoping bass frequencies, or sound proofing, The thicker the foam the better
"When you worked in the wood shop?" Those cleats got me thinking I'm looking at Frank Howarth's excellent channel. You are a source of great inspiration.
Honestly, a drum isolating platform helped heaps, but I was on the top floor. You could try building a “practice space” with acoustic blankets on rails, so you can close that up when you wanna practice, but open it up when you wanna record video or audio.
That's a great idea actually!!! Maybe if I hang the rails from the ceiling It would be easy to slide them open and closed kind of like a shower curtain... MIGHT ACTUALLY USE THIS ONE! Thank!!
Bass Traps! You need Bass Traps. Its incredible how much of a difference they make. Put as much of them as you can in the corners. I even measured the difference with a special mic and software. Incredible!
Yes! Glad to not have another 3 months before a video :) Very nice panels, gonna have to get me some of that action soon. Good luck with those neighbors above, haha! They don't know what's coming.
I'm just glad my neighbors don't mind the drum noise I make maybe because they make the same amount of noise (maybe more) in the daylight, it's peaceful in the night. Goodluck on the war with the noisy neighbors. Love you, Brandon. Stay safe.
In my old place, I screwed a long, narrow strip of wood to the studs, and then hung an acoustic blanket on that strip. Worked pretty well, and wasn't too bad to patch up when we left... I like that your bottom panels are shelves too. It's a little thing, but it makes them so much more functional!
Do something in the corners there are a special reflection point in the room! That´ll help a lot! And try to avoid parallel reflections: if there is one with hard surface - reflecting - the other, in the opposite direction should be prepared with a absorbing surface.
I really appreciate your video making Brandon. Even more than a a good drummer, you just strike me as a really cool guy. You just inspire me on all fronts.
Nice man.. I have neighbors too and the wall is very thick But they have "kids" and they come to my door everyday when i play drums, and they say that the kids cry because they here you. 😅
Omfg this was epic brandon hahahahahaha after that note then you carrying ur drums upstairs ...it was basically as inspiring as mel gibsons Braveheart speech before the war...they may take our lives.....BUT THEY WILL NOT TAKE OUR FREEEEEEEDOOOOOMMMM!!!!! ATTTTAAAAACK!! LMAO
I have dealt with the "curse of being a drummer" for years. Had a pretty nasty fist fight with a retired librarian once. Book smart. Just bought a new townhome in 2019 and lo and behold my neighbor, who I share a wall with, went into CoVid shelter in place mode two months later. So I bought a Roland TD17. Not the best solution but she hates my tapping a little less than my acoustic. I told her if she wanted to live in solitude she should move to suburbs. She disagreed and had the entire neighborhood and my association slapping expensive fines on me. I haven't paid any of them or stopped drumming. Later
I remember the egg cartons haha! Go for the corners if you want to trap the bass frequencies. The corners of the room should have the biggest impact. Looks good buddy! Glad you're settling in. I'll have to come visit.
Hi Brandon, well done build and video. One other thing beside leaving a gap between wall and panels to get more out of it would be to not set them up paralell on the opposite wall. If you alternate the position of the panels than you don't end up with a space where you still have all the reflections and this is in your case right at cymbal and ear hight. Problem than could be that your one ear gets the full reflections from the one side, and your other ear gets way less reflections. what helps there is to use smaller panels and alternate them but this will not look as good as your 8ft panels, hm
Great video bro. I definitely think you should do something above your kit. I’ve made some movable, free-standing panels similar to the ones you’ve made cuz it’s nice to move them around for certain stuff. Keep at it bro!
Those are pretty dam good panels. Might just steal those ideas I too live in an apartment and know the pain. I had to build a drum riser to lift my kit off the floor to stop it from causing issues below us. Basically 2x pieces of MDF board with holes drilled in them and tennis balls separating them to keep. looks like its on its own stage
Thats great, thank u for sharing everything u do, i love to wath yor videos. Studio panels really works, u should get it in a corners to get rid of low frequencies. And of course more on walls and ceiling)
Very nice work, Brandon. I wish that I had this skills too. Hahahaha. One question, you thought about some bass traps in corners? I think it could help too, and they are very nice looking. Hahaha Thanks for your videos.
This revenge is pretty sweet, but to be even you have to play your drums from above their heads at 3am, not two stories below them while they’re probably at work or school…
I actually did buy a new blade with more teeth after this for other projects! Really helps when ripping the wood against the grain… been putting masking tape over the cut line and that seems to help a ton with splintering too. Thanks!!
@@BrandonScottDrums real MVP. So you don't cut them out all together. Really like how you build all your own stuff and the cloud idea sounds dope. Been with you now for a couple years since you got off the boats. That's how I found you. I was trying out for a boat. Glad I found your page.
So you moved back from South Africa? Don't feel bad. I live in a house in a neighborhood with 1 acre lots. I had an asshole next door that kept calling the cops - during the day! The cops would come over and ask if I could "turn it down". "Sure" I replied. Either when I'm finished playing or it's after 10 at night. They couldn't do a thing. My neighbor...he moved!!! LMAO!
Glenn had a great tutorial how to build bass traps on the cheap: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dZV-gxVpkGk.html . I think with bass traps in the corners you will improve the situation quite a bit. Also think about sound dispersion not only absorption. You could maybe build panels consisting of roof laths cut to different lengths (5, 10, 15, 20cm) and glued together. Like a 3D spectrogram. This is also a great idea how to build a bass trap: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f52yjsgOoYI.html
