I decided to turn our perpetually messy and wet cat feeding spot into a neat and organized food station! I LOVE how it turned out!! We've since placed a stainless steel tray underneath the station which catches any water that falls through the holes, and I only need to wipe down the top when the cats splash their water around. This station has saved us a ton of time cleaning up and it looks so much neater than what we were using before.

If anyone wants to build something out of wood and would like to protect it against spills I can recommend a natural wax from the German manufacturer “AURO”, type 171. It’s a mixture from beeswax and plant wax and is safe even for children’s wooden toys. I’ve been using it for over ten years and am very happy with it. Initially waxed surfaces might not be as strongly protected as when you use lacquer but its advantage is that you can easily fix small damages without having to sand the entire piece.

Maybe consider getting one of the tray's that goes under a planter box? You could probably find one long enough to fit under the feeder box to catch any water that falls down. And they are low profile so it would probably fit just fine! They're typically sold seperately as well. :D

I was thinking the same thing, but I worry maybe since it would be dark and moist down there that it would be a breeding ground for bacteria they don't want. Maybe do like a floor mat instead that they can wash every so often?

if they cut a small slit on the bottom it could be a removable drip tray? Rachel said she was going to wipe down underneath every time, but this way she can just pull out the trays and clean them instead. No chance for mold or bacteria growth!

I do water in dinner so that I make sure they get plenty of fluids. I mix a few tbsp in their wet food. They get dry for breakfast. And we keep water cups and a water bowl (for the dog) as well. Well hydrated kitties are Healthy kitties. Good job!

I think the best option to stop poki, would be to add a hinge door on the top so you can still access it and close it while feeding. That's very creative, Rachel good job!!!

Suggestion for a small improvement: Add some rubber feet to it that raises the piece a bit. This way small spills underneath that might not get noticed in daily life have a chance to dry causing less damage to your floor.

For the water that spills. Add one long piece that goes under all the bowls at a slight angle towards the end. That way all the water will slide/drain down to one end and you can catch save it for watering plants!

A couple things I would sugggest, is one, keeping ur animals in a secured kennel or room with a door when u guys are sleeping. I know cats like to be out and doing whatever they’d like at night, but for their safety it’s better to confine them to a certain area whenever u guys can’t watch them for hours on end. Seeing Pichi trying to balance on the little handle bar of the balcony only proves the point. What if she’s up there when you are sleeping and falls and ends up breaking a bone or worse? Also, on Poki’s eating habits…habits like that are hard to break but also reversible if you work hard at it. My suggestion would be to feed Poki in an entirely different room from the others, as the main reason for eating so quickly is because he doesn’t want anyone else eating it. Also it will help him stop eating from the other cats bowls. His habit of picking on others food could potentially cause food aggression in the other cats, especially if you guys were to get a new one added to the family.

It is so cool to see Pichi running ahead of everyone she's so confident now. and ofc i love hearing loudest cat alive , poki singing the song of his people hahaha ofc Nagi and Haku running down the stairs...cute fluffy butts!
