Rosie,... If all the construction woodworkers or carpenters, built patio decks, house foundations like you! With anchor points against stone, or concrete, etc. with protection against rot. Built the same as you do, carefully and always make sure that NO rot can grow between the wooden structure or stone/wall/concrete. Then we wouldn't have problems in Sweden with mold and moisture in our basement structures and more. You put under between the stone/concrete contact, first underlay tar paper, (Asphalt as you said it) then apply an anti-moisture agent such as sleeper oil. A big "Thumbs Up" on your treatments. Your patio deck will survive the house's exterior facade and wood paneling with decades! This comes from a trained professional construction worker, and carpenter with almost 40 years in construction work. 😍😊👍👍💥💯💪
Yes because trying to find a good construction carpenter these day's is very hard. We hired my husband's friend to remodel our kitchen and it cost us 40,000. It was a gorgeous kitchen but was NOT worth that much money. Fabricated cabinets from Lowe's, all our appliances and his outrageous fee and it wasn't even a year in and parts of the kitchen was falling apart and we had to have stuff replaced. We decided from then on that even if it takes us a year to finish a room or project, we'll do it ourselves. I am constantly hearing people complain of crappy work now. They all seem to cut corners and do shotty work.
@@minnamae25 How sad to hear that your kitchen only lasted barely a year! And then start to fall apart and break. Unfortunately, it is just like that, that today you should be very lucky if you find a carpenter or a building's wood worker who really puts his whole soul and effort into a house renovation or other construction work. It has become individual individuals, who call themselves "carpenters", just because they have put on carpenter's work pants! Those with blinders over their eyes, only care about getting done quickly and cutting corners. As well as doing a cheat job! In a single thought in their heads, to only extract and cheat honest people of their hard earned and treasured money. Unfortunately, as a professional and carpenter, I have seen this downward trend sometimes with "so-called" professionals in construction work, who know nothing or how to do a really clean job. The work ethic that I got from my father who had his own construction company and who taught me the carpentry trade, who wasn't satisfied with me cheating at work, but taught me everything from the ground up, that knowledge is NOT left anymore! I can proudly say to myself,... that during my nearly 40 years in the construction industry, I have never walked away from a half-finished, or carelessly completed job.
That’s the difference between a professional and an amateur. The word “amateur” is often used in the pejorative sense. But without the relentless time constraints of a professional, with Rosie’s willingness to take the time to do things just right, with her willingness to learn and try new things and her ability to take a break when she needs to, she has achieved remarkable results.
It's just so inspirational watching you transform this almost decapitated ödegård into a haven of calm and beauty. I think there is not a person on this channel that doesn't enjoy following your journey and the whole building process. Can't wait for the bittersweet moment when it's all complete and to see the end-result of your hard work. You make us all want to sell up, pack up, move to Sweden, and have at it. Thank you for hours upon hours of dreaming, laughing, and inspiration.
I also love all the intelligent, compassionate and sensitive comments people make on Rosie’s channel. Thank you for yours. I think Rosie loves not only her design/building/land renovation process but the artistry involved in crafting her videos. So I think we may have the pleasure of following Rosie’s journey for years to come. 😊
What a magical place you have, Rosie!! If I, as an older person, would give anyone out there advice, if you are inclined to live a life such as Rosie, don't wait. Do it while you are young. I wish I would have. Mistakes will happen, but you can overcome them. No time will ever be "the perfect time." Seize the moment. Thank you Rosie for sharing a life that every introvert dreams about. 😍
I thought I had subscribed, and realized just now I had not. I enjoy your videos not as much as entertainment, but a reminder to be present & pause in each day to enjoy that moment. Even the smallest things, like the 2 frogs, seem magical. It reminds me of my childhood exploring the outdoors with wonder. Your filming is so lovely along with the music & sounds. Very therapeutic. I am 61 now and there is still a little girl within filled with wonder. But of all things, YOU are what make these videos so lovely my dear. Thank you for all the effort and adventures you have taken us on as you share your life with all of us. ❤
From interior DIYs to building new toilets to building a new deck....next thing we know Rosie is building herself a new cabin all by herself. And im sure she can do it. You are such an inspiration. You bring so much calmness and warmth in all your videos.
Your imagination and resources are endless. I love the attention to detail, and the gentleness of your movement. To not forget the shooting, that invisible craftsmanship in the background, that needs planning and a well trained eye, that you master so well. But what makes your channel so lovely is you! The joy with which you receive every success is contagious; reminding us we can do whatever we set our minds to. Thank you Rosie for sharing, I'm celebrating life (and coffee) watching you! ❤
I know that feeling exactly: walking on a wooden deck that I just built on my house. It is such a deep deep pleasure to have a deck to enjoy day and night. Excellent job, Rosie. It’s beautiful .
You have given your house such a beautiful life. A second chance to stand for generations housing you and others to come. And your property too. Half tame. Half wild. A wildlife refuge yet still suits your needs. It’s all so lovely.
Oh my goodness, I was squealing when I saw the model! I LOVE scale models and paint/kitbash them regularly. Love it when an awesome creators jumps into the more nerdy things.
I love the editing with the over-floating sound effects to the next visual block (I don’t know the proper technical terminologies but you got the point😂)❤ Nice job with the building! Your editing style is evolving too🎉
Rosie, I feel your 3D printer is truly a game changer. It can be a $ earner for you. I am learning so much from your channel. I am DIYing a house and yard/garden in Kansas built in 1948. It has many problems. Slowly, at 71, I am doing it. I have to adjust my plans sometimes. I am an artist and I plan having a small studio and shop. I love not having a 9-5 job. Never give up! Love everything you do!
When I see a new video from your channel pop up I get so excited. The world stops until I get to watch it! I almost feel like I am there watching you as you create this beautiful, tranquil and peaceful life/world! I have done the same thing at my home. No construction on the house itself because I built brand new. A 1000 sf home on slab with high ceilings but the yard was a tremendous amount of work. I had to keep the water from compromising the slab and also transform the huge lot to something manageable. Plant a garden, create a rock patio, plant a flower garden, support the grass and help it spread.. It has been a tremendous amount of work so I can't imagine having to also be involved in renovating a house, guest house etc.!!! The lot was overgrown with vines, offshoots of trees, even poison ivy! Needless to say I've been covered in a rash twice! But now, thankfully I have things under control but I've been creating and improvising right along with you Rosie! Thank you for all you do. I know it is a ton of work to film in addition to do the work, so thank you for bringing us all along on your journey!
Rosie, my admiration and respect for you and your achievements, knows no bounds. I think you are a strong, successful, committed woman, and I can only say very, very well done in everything you do. I look forward to your next video. 🤗🇬🇧🏴
Aaah....The long-awaited magical morning coffee on the deck, served on a rustic wooden tray set with a creamy white pitcher and special cup, and celebrated with braided hair and a burnt orange dress.
You’ve reminded me of something, Rosie. I’ve often been led to believe that there’s one “professional” way to do things. Truth is there’s often multiple ways of getting something done well. Good tools & ingenuity make most endeavors possible. Well done & thank you.
I absolutely adore how precise you are with everything-it brings me so much joy. Too often, builders rush through their work without paying attention to the details, assuming no one will notice or that it doesn’t matter, just wanting to finish and move on. But it’s exactly that attention to detail that distinguishes mediocre work from true craftsmanship. Well done!
Take it from an old man who has built all his life - you do an excellent job. Such precision!!! My only negative comment (& it's not really negative ) is that you tend to overbuild. Your projects will last forever, which is a good thing!!! I so look forward to your videos. Keep on building!!!
I love that you built a hay ramp for your tiny frogs to climb out of the holes by themselves and helped them along the way! So cute to watch! I do such things for helpless creatures, too. Your project is coming along so nicely, and with the great care we see in all your work. I've started watching the whole series from the beginning and smile because I can see what's coming later on when you start to make something and are unsure. In this video, as you carry the top boards with such assurance I see how far you've come. You're a builder! So happy for you in your life in this house in the forest in Sweden!
Dear Rosie, As I watched your video a sense of calm came over me. Everything you make is so you! You are particular, you are not only a creator, but an artist. Everything you build has a sense of calm and reason; simple and satisfying in its simplicity. I love the angled cut on the bottom joist; it makes a world of difference. Your videos are the same: reasoned, seemingly simple, but lucious in the smallest detail. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talents with us! I can't wait for your next video! I hope you enjoy making the videos. Thank you. Angela
As in your construction, the same goes for your videos. It's the detail, and small things that make it perfect. Your story building, your background views, your choice of music. We know how much work you put into this project, we know your dream, and at 34.15 you lay back on the deck in the sun, and we all smile, recognizing how you must feel in that moment.
Well done Rosie. Your videos are still my favourite. So beautifully edited with such lovely music not to mention how you share yourself so honestly. Oh! And your talents of course. Thanks.
I love the way you just get in and tackle a project. You don’t do the “girly” thing of saying it is to much for you! You make all of us women who do the same feel proud!! Great job! Greetings from Vancouver Canada
I personally know no ‘girls’ who say it’s too much when they set their eyes on something. Seems like a generalisation that won’t help anyone. Anyhow, je platform is prachtig geworden Rosie!
It took you a long time but you did not cut corners. You can be very proud of your strong, well made deck. I was amazed by your 3D model making, I really think you can figure anything out. I think you will build a little workshop, gain more confidence and then build a whole new home. And have one million subs.
My husband is in construction and I’ve seen him build dozens of decks. You did an amazing job! All the brackets you used for each joist you don’t see every one do. I’m always so impressed with everything you do.
You can clad the posts that hold up your porch. Once secured and the deck built, cladding is a great option. The deck looks amazing. It must feel so nice to soak in the sunshine while reclining on that beautiful deck.
I just noticed in full viewing mode today there is a small fox and rabbit in the lower right corner(in the black bars section), like that very much. Never seen this before, love it. Also like the 3D scale model of you side and decking. Well done. Your videos are my biweekly moment of peace on the Sunday morning look forward to the next
When I first discovered your channel I was able to just blitz through all your videos. Now I have to wait upwards of two weeks to see a new one. Bummer! I’m amazed at your analytical mind, your steadfast effort, and your creativity. Also, you have really grown in your carpentry skills and power tool capabilities. I like your overalls, Rosie. They look comfortable to work with. I’m surprised you haven’t sewn another pair. Keep those videos coming!
I watch you think and work through projects and I’m amazed . I don’t know why but when you poured your coffee and then laid back in the sun on your deck ….I teared up 🥺 I feel like I’m with you every step of the way on this journey . Oh and the greens for your salad , from your greenhouse you made , I am so impressed !
Like everything else you have built this deck is beautiful. You have such wonderful craftsmanship Rosie. I hope you choose to spend many hours on this deck relaxing and enjoying the warm sun
@@Karincl7 This is also true. Thank you. However, when I watch her story, I see an animal lingering around her. No worries, my sons in the Nordic also panic the moment I mention "last night I dreamed" then it happens. Hence, why I live close to the Antarctic, more than 10,000 away from them.
Rosie, your deck is so beautiful. And once again I am thinking, is there anything Rosie can’t do? You, your ingenuity and talents are so amazing. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Til next time, love and blessings! ❤️🙏🏻
The 3D printer is so right for you Rosie. I am so glad the company has sponsored you. Your decking, as always, has been made with your normal precision . There's a lot of people out there that can learn from you. I do wish I was younger so that I could 'copy' you. Take care and stay safe my dear🤗🇬🇧
That shot of you laying the decking through a tree/shrub in that light was cinematography perfection. You go to so much trouble to make your videos so photogenic and interesting. That deck is going to be such a blissful place to sit.
Congratulations Rosie have loved reading the comments and the wonderful praise you deserve. Such a pleasure to watch u Rosie and all your accomplishments. Well done 👏 ✔ you Blessings ❤
So, so happy to wake this morning and find a new video from you. A cup of coffee and my Rosie! You are so inspiring my friend. Well done!! I love the new deck!
Almost 3 in the morning; have a bit of insomnia here in Colorado, so I'm catching you before falling asleep, rather than when I wake up. The deck is looking lovely. I was bummed when we had to put railing on our deck, because I much prefer the open platform. Ours is around 5' off the ground, on a hillside, so it had to be done. Much prefer yours! G'night.🖤
Rosie, I am immensly proud of you for ALWAYS doing your best, finding solutions to the problems, and mostly STICKING TO IT!! I remember the refresh on your back porch, how frustrated you were that day. I was near to tears at that moment. WOW!! How you have you have grown! Your self-determination to never give up, try again, approach from another view. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you!! ❤😅❤
It seems everyone has already given my sentiments! You are a joy to watch. Love seeing your Mom too. There’s another DIY channel and the young female homeowner was watching you while she was painting. You are an inspiration!
Consider using an oil sealer on the deck. It won’t peel off, it will repel water, and it last much longer than a stain. Congratulations on building a deck that compliments your home. With the tools you have on hand, you are truly gifted😊
Hi Rosie from Australia 🇦🇺 I’ve been with you from the beginning you are so smart. Keep up the good work. The deck makes the house look bigger. Your parents would be proud of you 😊
I love the way you celebrated the (almost) completed deck. A well-deserved coffee in a pretty dress. These small rewards are significant for acknowledging the hard work, and I can identify with the feeling. It's a wonderful milestone. ❤
What a great looking deck! Your hard work and ingenuity are such an inspiration! Wow! Stunning. As are your videos, great pleasure to watch. Do you plan to turn the window into a door? To have direct access from your house to that beautiful deck? ❤
Hello Miss Rosie you are a super Woman I am 70yrs old and I have been diying long before it was popular I have built many small projects and a few larger ones for the last 50 yrs and it has been so much fun and exciting don't feel bad when you make a mistake in a cut even the carpenters do ! That is really a learning process I was so afraid of using a large saw that for the longest time the only thing I used was a jig saw ! But then I tried it and there was no stoping me ! You my young lady are a perfectionist and a great carpenter you could be anything you want to be wow with your knowledge and talents my the world is yours!!!God Bless you!!!I love your videos and can't wait to see when you have another one is on.❤
well done - im in Sydney and just built a tiny 3m x 3m deck and had help from friends - its a LOT of work buy soooooooooo great being able to sit outside in the air . Loving your journey - all the best
I used to design and build 1:6 scale (Sindy size) rooms, interiors, furniture and accessories, using foam board, craft wood wood and whatever else I could find that could be repurposed into something else. I left the hobby 8 years ago (and won't be returning to it), but back then, a 3D printer would have been a game changer for me. Seeing Rosie's scale model brought back lovely memories of my own model building. Her scale model is breathtaking.
