@@Iristoddlewis Yes and no. I use to visit the Yukon quite a bit when I lived in Alaska. I was always struck by how so super nice people were and how it's ingrained even things like the traffic rules. For instance if I went to cross the road... instead of waiting for the traffic to clear... the cars stopped for me! That was very odd... but nice. I also found many of the bars to be very UK pub-like in atmosphere. In other ways like shopping, vehicles, and architecture & entertainment it was more like the US. The Mounties are quite unique. They can be very British-like and serious when dealing with a legal issue... but also irreverent and funny (not British-like) at other times. One of them helped play a funny joke on me... It's a long story but to make it short it ended with him saying (I swear he had what sounded like a Scittish brogue)... "So last I hear you like to drop the pants on the Mounties" (while lifting the front of his Serge as if he was going to undo his trousets). Mind you this was in the middle of a formal meal at an international conference with about 500 people and a spotlight on me! I was redder than his uniform!😄😂🤣 Yes a Mounties pants had fallen down a couple of days earlier during a photo-op... but I swear I had nothing to do with it! I was just standing there.... and he was actually a giant Mountie Mannequin.😄 For the rest of the conference it was... "That's the girl that pantsed the Mountie!" ... even the elevator.🙄

As far as I know ensuites are not common in most of Europe, I live in the Netherlands and only big, new houses have ensuites. I am happy you choose to build the master bedroom upstairs. A lot of American Sims builders put the master bedroom downstairs which is something I don't remember ever seeing in Europe. Most older Houses in Europe only have one full bathroom upstairs and a small half bath with a toilet (and if your lucky a sink) downstairs.

What a cute build! So Wayback in the 1970s, before there were home-improvement stores, department stores used to have home-improvement sections. And in those days you could actually order decorative items for your rooms that matched your wallpaper and rugs. Isn’t that cool? My grandparents house used to have a lot of that going on! Thanks for all you do Deli 💜💜

The idea of the English countryside is more or less correct, bear in mind that the U.K. as a whole varies. The Welsh countryside mostly has slate roofs instead of thatch since the material was readily available. Most farmhouses are usually only ever one-storey unless the farm owner has a lot of money since from what I have been told building a second storey is expensive. Please note do not assume that this pack is all that there is to British (or even English) architecture because you will be sadly mistaken.

@Iristoddlewis 2 года назад
Thatched roofs are common to the west country plus the Cotswolds, but lots of slate roofs further north. Americans tend to have firm ideas of what is essentially British or English, but are often wrong! Heck, they think we live in igloos in Canada! Anyway, I see much that can be considered traditionally English in the pack. True that cottages are generally one storey with few bump-outs, but terraced homes are usually two-storey, not found in country settings as a rule. Cottage gardens are common in country areas, less so in towns. Lots of hanging planters and window boxes since Britain in Bloom was popular. Follow Harrie for sure -she is current!

This is super cute and the landscaping is 😍😍😍 As someone that lives in Dorset (Countryside in the South of England), it kinda reminds me more of a French style in a weird way? The actual shape of the house is pretty spot on though, but if you look at the cottages round here, they are all built from local stone and very few of them have thatched roofs as it's a bit of a nightmare to maintain. That technique you were talking about is a really old technique referred to as "Wattle and Daub". Think it may have originated in the Celtic era. PS. Our bins actually do look like that! We have Black, Blue and Green (rubbish, recycling, garden)

I 100% agree that boredom is underrated. Boredom is humanities great driver! What do I do when I'm bored? I read, I sew, I cross stitch (so excited for my sims to, ahah!), I knit (you know I have nifty knitting gurl), I crochet, I bake, I learn new things.... Sometimes I hop on RU-vid and I learn about how other people live, or watch sims building which makes me think about design and spatial awareness and looking at things form the bigger picture. Gorgeous build, Deli! It may be simple but it inspires a person to... romanticize the simple things in life. One of the biggest thing that helped me to really love my life is to romanticize the little moments. Read on a chair with your dog in your lap, drink a hot chocolate when it's snowing with your house coat and slippers on... it's simple stuff but if you imagine it like a movie or a book character it seems so cozy and lovely. I think my favorite single object from the pack (aside from the animals and the cross stitch box) is the china cabinet. It reminds me of the China cabinet in my moms house or my grandmothers house.

Brick walls with white windows and doorways, a family home in city is normally semi detached and with a mudroom opening from the front door - about 1 square meter so I would do 4 tiles in the sims. Normally dark carpeted. Hydrangeas are typical British flowers too planted at the front and visteria running on the wall at the back garden. Also foundations are a big no no... Take care. 🙂

Afther that poor the rest of the water out and they have enough for a long time. Also when all the flowers are gone let the steel dry out and cut it of. Hey Deli, I love your build and it's making me really excited for the new pack! I don't even want to build anything anymore at the moment because I'm just impatiently waiting for the release and the new items. Regarding the "dying plant" issues that you have, most of the times plants die from overwatering rather than dehydration - I recommend to put reminders in your phone or get an app (there's so many) which will do it for you if you add the plant to your collection. Also plant stores like to fertilize plants or use chemicals to make them look the most pretty in the store for people to buy, and after being in the new home for a couple of days they just die off (specially orchids, they're also often put into the wrong soil and too tight containers, changing the pots once you bought them is a must for many plants). And you'd want to make sure to keep your plants close to the windows, every meter away from the light is a big loss in terms of UV light. I struggled so many years myself, but finally can call myself a proud plant mommy! You can do it too!

Some stores make tons of things in the same patterns. Laura Ashley comes to mind as a place that's likely to have matching wallpaper and fabric patterns!

If you want good and easy plants to take care off, look for Pothos (vines), snake plants, aloe vera , spider plants, any succulent, zebra succulent plant (there’s two types of zebra plant, so be sure it’s the succulent one!) , turtle vine and english Ivy. Super easy to maintain and keep alive!!

Speaking of plants, of you have difficulty in keeping them alive, you should try a zz plant and a pothos, these are nearly impossible to kill

Super cute, I can't wait for this pack. To answer some of your questions/ponderings: The wood pattern you described but couldn't remember the name of is herringbone (because the angled boards look like fish bones). I honestly don't know how prevalent it is in old cottages. Everyone has wheelie bins (what you placed) in the UK. Driving through the countryside you'll often see a collection of them at the side of the road where a cottage lane or track ends, as the resdients have put them on the main road for emptying by the local council. Different council areas have different sets of bins for recycling (where I live we have blue, green, brown and black wheelie bins for all the different recyclables). To replace the ink in a typewriter is not like liquid ink in a printer, it's a spool of ribbon. You can still buy replacements for most machines.

I'm so in love with this pack! I love the bunnies (glad that they cannot be pets!), the cows, the llamas, the foxes, chickens, everything! The clutter and all. I'm already excited for CC creators to create add-ons of the build objects like Peacemaker often does.

as a brit countryside properties like these are so rare these days , normally in the countryside you see more self built morden homes with a slight rustic feel

If you like the idea of a vanity table but want water on hand maybe look into a pitcher and basin set up. Lots of pretty options. Also a spray bottle if something just needs to be dampened. Overall it's good not to store make-up in the bathroom, humidity is rough on almost all types of it.

Hey Deli, I had to smile when you were speaking of not being able to keep plants alive despite trying so hard. 😂 I'm the same! I call it my black thumb 😅. However, I recently got a Jasmin pot plant for my birthday and it is still alive and growing wildly. Even though my cats try to eat it (it is not toxic) 😂 10/10 would recommend to anyone with a black thumb 😉

En-suites aren't common in old houses in the UK, unless they have been modernised at some point. Something that is a bit more common is having two doors to the main bathroom - one to the landing/hallway and one to the master bedroom, or in two bedroom houses two doors behind the two rooms, which can make for more quirky floorplans.

You get ensuites with new builds in the UK, older houses only have them if they’ve been renovated, and that’s usually knocked through to another bedroom or taken space from the current room. Also there’s probably no new post boxes because we don’t have them in the uk, that’s why they’ve put them on the new doors, maybe they should have made them functional l

En-suites aren't common over here because a lot of the houses were built before indoor plumbing was something that was in every house. So a lot of old terraced houses for example will have bathrooms downstairs back behind the kitchen where it was added on rather than being upstairs as that requires losing a bedroom. A lot of old country houses would have been built as very basic "2 up 2 down" houses that have over the years been renovated and extended to make them more suitable to modern living, also with advancements in materials and building methods, they didn't really do professional builders back in the day!
