If you can figure out the design you can also make a ps5 laptop since that form goves you more room to have better cooling and even a battery for a little bit of play time away from the wall
First, he made the slimmest ps5. Then he made a golden ps5. Now he makes a ps5 tablet. Congrats, man. You should get your engineer masters degree any second now
I feel like a slim gaming laptop is kinda the same form factor as this, only it lets you run whatever OS you want. Still, I can't believe he actually made that himself, it's so damn well made.
I've been enjoying this channel for quite some time now,, i find your way of carrying the process of prototyping/testing/correcting very interesting. You should be proud of your craft, sir.
as a manufacturing engineer, I could not believed my eyes. You are so talented . insane amount of work. from design to electronics. keep it up bro you showed Sony what is possible !
@@skydivenext if he works in the industry he will be forced to eat sht by clueless management and marketing execs that can barely use email, just like most engineers are.
this is just incredible. the way you managed to slim it down and capture what a sony product would look like is just a chefs kiss. I applaud you for this hard work, I hope you continue innovating in your designs.
It must be done!! Martina would bring a new level of elegance to what DIY perks is already capable of it would be monumental! @@CreativeExcusesGaming @Nerdforge
This is incredible. You disappear for months at a time and then drop these absolutely insane builds! You literally put in so much time and effort into every project and the final product blows me away every time. 👏👏👏 Well done man.
Another channel with a similar vibe, though more construction than electronics is Drew Builds Stuff. Dude takes forever to drop vids but oh man he does them well.
Yeah I would definitely love this! Unfortunately I don't have the means to build something like this and to have someone custom build this for you would probably be extremely expensive! Hopefully they will make something like this for the mainstream market.
This guy is the kid in all of us. Matt is like the guy who does what we all dream about but actually really does the deed. Total joy watching this channel. Brings out the kid in me.
I feel like all the big companies should have a RU-vid department dedicated to finding people like this to make new special products and just make about as many as there is comments for the first on to test it out
As a truck driver, I will buy this. This is really useful for moments like where my truck is in the shop and I don’t have my TV , I’ll still be able to play my game rental truck or wherever I want.
This man has one of the best RU-vid channels and his videos are always interesting and unique! Not to mention, his educating and explaining the complex and detailed work he’s doing is remarkable. This is definitely one of the cooler builds I’ve seen him do :)
My jaw just dropped. What an unbelievable project! The build looks so cool and I am really impressed how quiet it is. Thanks for sharing this incredible DIY project.
Sony needs to hire him to design the PS6. This guy is seriously talented man. His knowledge on so many different subjects makes him a jack of all trades 👏
I was just thinking. DIY perks is a master consumer engineer. Are his talents wasted by making prototypes for entertainment? Is it just a statement of the world (and an indictment of society) that more money (and fulfilment) can be made by making products that ultimately aren't mass produced? I guess it's the fault of companies not paying enough for this kind of talent.
Remember that the purpose of a company is to make money. The more ingenious an idea is, it can also be more expensive. I don't want to detract from their ideas, it's just that for a company they are very expensive.
"Design the PS6" I'm sorry but he's taking existing components and reorganizing them in to different form factors. Sony have designed the PS5 to be as powerful and efficient as the price point as possible. Sure, just stick an OLED laptop display on top, go with a custom power supply, those clearly didn't make the thing at least 2 grand.
@@parodigameru145 for sure Cost optimising is a huge, important part of making a product. And one that doesn't *really* feature in these video. That's not a criticism either, for the purposes of entertainment it is wholly unnecessary
@@IsleyNumber1 specifically it has to be designed for mass production. An aluminum shell is more cost effective for a 1 off build, but Sony needs to design these for injection molded components made from plastic that are mass produced with injection molds made to produce thousands of pieces.
Im telling you… any other tech youtuber out there would have easily made each of his videos into a mini series with at least 3 episodes. Such great content and straight to the point
Hear me out, YOUR VIDEO WAS SOOO SATISFYING FROM START TO THE FINISH... It kept on getting better. I've never seen a PS modification that's this good before...
Till you actually go do the work in figuring out how to do this yourself, look at the price of a ps5 and all the bits you need to make this happen. Still cheaper to buy a laptop. And If I had to decide between a gaming console and a gaming laptop, guess which one wins in the end. IF sony does that, rule of thumb would to do this at either the same price or marginally more expensive, otherwise, wtf would you waste money on this if you can get something far superior
@Shikkai123 people have been asking this since the dawn of the console wars. Why console when you can PC, often for cheaper? The answer is cleaning out the fridge. What shall I do on my computer today? Shall I game, watch, research, develop, write, read, draw, sculpt? Hundreds of choices, and sometimes you just don't want to make the choice. You're staring at a fridge full of food, and there's "nothing to eat" The console, on the other hand, is a half empty fridge with just enough ingredients to make your favourite sandwich. What shall I do on my console today? I don't feel like gaming, so maybe I'll watch something instead. You're getting the sandwich or just making a cuppa with the milk, no extra distractions, you either want it or you don't. You're not convincing yourself to or away from whatever imaginary meal you might concoct, you can see plain as day. Today it is ham sandwich or shopping. I'm here to play some games or I'm doing something else. It's just compartmentalising. I quite enjoy modding, but I also quite enjoy being prevented from modding so I don't lose 6 hours to the opening cutscene. Less can be more
His almost-gaslighting about liquid metal wasn't cool though. We all know deep down inside that it's amazingly stupid for the PS5 to have liquid metal. It's extra cost, extra risk, all for a line of text on a box that almost nobody cares about. The fans are just too quiet for "ramp up the fans a bit" to not be the better solution.
I would say his work is even better than commercial product from Sony, Sony definitely has this ability to do it. Instead they are still targeting low cost gaming consoles these days. What a pity.
I'm glad his projects are so crazy they still get clicks and pushed by the algorithm. Creators like this get the short straw compared to pumping out rubbish daily.
This is a FREAKING AWESOME BUILD! You are amazing! I would love to tackle this and add a video output port to be able to connect it to a TV for nonportable usage at home and a way to expand/modify the storage to futute proof it. But alas, I do not have the patience nor 3d peinter nor knowledge nor time. So, I commend you!
An awesome addition would be to have an HDMI port so that if you are at home and want it hooked up to a TV you could easily do so. Then you could just pick it up and take it as well. Great project by the way.
You do such a good job at making these things sound so incredibly simple to do that I feel like I could do this myself. Though I know that I'm nowhere near smart enough to get all the pieces together and assembled.
You don't even calculate the cost to performance ratio and the fact that consoles are already sold at a loss... Adding more stuff like liquid cooling etc will just drive the price higher and people will cry again because of that.
@@DittyBitty69 do you know even how many people work on the consoles?? and how do you even know what all their duties are in the corporation?? Do you have their schedule? You assume too much and know little.
Well, in general, if you are an engineer for the first time, you have copper pieces, and it will not be difficult, but creating from scratch is complicated, so a full team of engineers is necessary.
I just can't get over how intuitive this guy is. I would 100% buy any of the projects he has made, they are that professionally done. I'm continuously amazed and entertained by his content.
I have my doubts it's only him or if it's even him who comes with all the ideas.. even the channel's website credits him as "host"... we never see a workbench and there is little more information on the web... hmmm... there is nothing wrong with that but still...
I'd pick this up instantly! Having an entire PS5/display setup in one portable device is exactly what I'd need when travelling or hanging out with friends.
You are the only tech moderator/engineer I watch on youtube and your videos blow my mind away everytime. You literally engineer most of the things I've always thought about but better. That being said,.. do you sell any of the mods you create??? PS. Please say you do 😅
This guy is an amazing engineer! TBH I'd rather buy this PS5 Tablet than a normal PS5. Just add an HDMI In/Output and you have the best console imaginable!
It is truly rare to see such technically challenging projects done sone beautifully. it's not a very common mix of skills... and Matt brings it in spades on all fronts!
Okay now you’re just showing off 😭 this is so dope and the design looks super sleek for what I expected even with a smaller board. Be very proud of yourself sir!
@@dimaknopf This thing is costly to manufacture and as well one size just doesn't fit all. I could be mistaken but if someone wishes to game on a setup like this, they should go with the OLED laptops, i.e. Gigabyte Aero 16 etc.
To be fair, it’s mainly the cost to manufacture. Sony engineers I’m sure could even out do this, but the cost it would take would never be justified by Sony consumers, having a 1200-1500 dollar portable ps5 would prolly cause more problems than the cost is worth, especially producing it on a mass level.
Been following you for a while, attempted the Flexible LED project but in a giant size with dual power supply. This is just next level, but to be expected!
They didnt since he forgot to actually put the psu in, which is why the PS5 is not that small as it would have a power block outside of it hanging like laptops. So this is not really a tablet.
Because working for Sony would be like working in an illegal sweat shop compared to working for yourself. Less money, terrible hours, no perks, plus you'd become a part of one of the most evil corporations on earth.
I'm jealous that you're able to make projects that look so good, cut no corners, and work as intended all while keeping the video concise and entertaining, Thank you for Inspiring me to keep learning and keep tinkering!
I think it has more to do with costs. A lot of the ps5 is designed to be cheap. The console itself is actually not what makes Sony and the rest money, it's the game licenses. So the cheaper the console is to make, the better for the company. And Matt's creation would probably break the 1000$ mark.
It seriously blows my mind how none of these guys have actually considered you for a design role yet. You have a lot of fresh ideas and this one has to be one of the best I've watched thus far. Keep at it, this is really entertaining to watch and I hope fulfilling to complete on your end. Great stuff
There's a big difference in designing something for one time production and for personal use than mass manufacturing a product that has to meet hundreds of universal specifications and be idiot proof, most of what's preventing Sony and other big tech companies from making truely innovative changes to their products is not the technical know how but the logistics and beaurocracy. I'm not saying DIY perks won't be an asset, he's clearly a genius, but it's not like he can just show this design in the Sony boardroom and go straight to production
@@SgtNicholasAngle Totally agree with you. Manufacturing is a totally different ball game. That being said I think DIY perks would be an extremely valuable engineer for a console manufacturer on the R&D side of things.
@@SgtNicholasAngleyeah we all get that part But he clearly shows that even if we can’t get a ps5 tablet we can get a decently sized ps5, at least as small as a ps4 slim while maintaining good cooling sustemy
Ok, it’s obviously no secret to any of us at this point that you’re just a cut above when it comes to diy engineering…Still, I have to say it…You’re truly legendary brother. The level of talent you have displayed over the years is only matched by the dedication you’ve brought to share these incredible feats of ingenuity, engineering prowess with us…you deserve every bit of success you find sir. Thank you for sharing your mind :) much love and respect from the PNW.
I think one thing you can improve with this build is adding some mesh over the fans to protect them from any foreign objects as well as dust buildup. This is an absolutely sick build!
I just Love your work and mods like this. Awsome build once again. I love HDplex products. Ive used them in a s4m build before but def need to get one of their new bricks. Looks amazing.
at this point I'm wondering how much he would consider selling this creation as a custom build with the screen and resources it cost, I'd place about $800-$1000 USD including the screen and handwork went into it
A lot of people will mainly focus on the finish product but we really cant overlook all the crazy amount of learning, research, planning, trial and error, timing and creativity he puts into each project. Like if these were that easy, so many companies would be doing it already yet they haven't. Seeing the timing between videos just shows the amount of time and effort placed into each project too. DIY Perks is hands down one of my top channels to watch ever since RU-vid became a thing and I got my first computer. Kudos to you, sir. You really are a genius in your craft and your creativity and the way you adapt into learning new tech and new ways to build with new materials is extremely impressive.
this is freaking unbelieveable! it's literally portable and all self-contained in the main unit! except for power but that is so easy to adapt to since we're already use to carrying power bricks with laptops. I'm in awe
You really make this stuff look easy. I’d love to see a “behind the scenes” video or long form video of doing all the CAD, machining, printing, etc etc. While I’m impressed with the product I really love the journey to get there, often times much more than the product itself.
Another absolute triumph, and one of the most aesthetically pleasing and well-finished projects yet. I've often thought - pretty much any of your designs could be developed into an eminently saleable commercial product, and make you millions. Have you not ever contemplated this, or is it just the fun of producing new designs that keeps you going?
Yes and no, there are reason for the bulky larger design of the PS5, manufacturing cost for one but also dust / heat dissipation. This is a nice One of Kind project though I give you that!
Wow, just WOW! You really should consider to do a tutorial with all parts needed, so other people can build this on their own if they want. That would be an awesome thing!
I would definitely buy something like this with 1 specific addition. That being a display out that lets you connect it to a full-size TV so you're not stuck only using the built-in display.
Its a brilliant idea, not only the fact that its 2 times smaller and has better screen, but the fact that you can bring it to something like friends house without problems is so good that this device deserves to be sold.
@DIYPerks That was truly awesome, I don’t own a ps5 but I’d like to own this. One idea I had while watching was possibly adding some sort of rubber rim to raise above the screen to protect it from shocks and scratches or a detachable cover while being on the go.
I can't get over how ingenious the heating solution is! Taking the monster of a heatsink the stock ps5 had and shrinking it down to a tablet size with that strange spiderweb of heatsinks is bonkers, not to mention how insanely quiet it ends up being!
I would DEFINITELY buy a product like this. As someone who prefers console gaming over handheld but dont always have the run of the tv, being able to just set this up in any room at any point with just a plug socket needed is awesome. The number of times I've had to set up my ps5 on a portable monitor balanced on the sofa arm is ridiculous 🤣
would love to have this. this with a car plug mount cable would be so nice. Also major proplem about the stream play is the lag. you literally made the perfect portable ps5. I hope its gona be possible to have this in the future.
This is actually amazing work. The only thing that I feel would’ve taken this to the next level is if it were capable of being docked to a monitor. Similar to the switch/steam deck. This is cool man. Perhaps in a part 2?
14:18 Longest 7 seconds ever 🥴 I can feel your joy in bringing this new masterpiece to life. I wish I could build any of those but I'm glad to watch you build them. Keep it up, you are amazing 🤙🏼✨
