I don't need a boat, and I have nowhere to store a boat. I can't build the simplest thing from wood, and I'm not specifically interested in boatbuilding. But now I've watched Aladino build this dinghy, and all I can think of is that I want to build a dinghy, too!! Of course it will never happen, it's just how my brain works. (Btw, a want to learn how to play the violin, too 🙂) Jokes aside, these videos showing the process of building the dinghy were amazingly good to watch. The way the two (sometimes three) of you worked together with the filming and building was very close and personal - in a very positive way. Hard to explain in a foreign language but i hope you're able to read between the lines and understand what I'm trying to say. Good luck with the work on the big ship!

very nice !

Knowing that paint hides all the flaws must have been a real problem for Alidino, because there weren't any flaws, and that had to make painting it that much harder. Special thanks to Dad, he wired the shop in a special way. When someone flips on the light switch, magical things happen. His son begins making jewelry, his daughter becomes a cinematographer, his son-in-law turns into a master boat builder, and llive music begins to play. Best 3 part series ever.

What an enjoyable video - I laughed and laughed with you all out in the rain enjoying that first experience of your new dinghy. I've done the, "out in the rain bit" so often with boats, kites, model planes etc. But it has to be done, doesn't it ? The dinghy is a triumph, it's a fine little ship with just the right amount of sheer, curve at the stem and angle at the transom and Aladino, your patience and attention to detail is exemplary - and this is when you're rushing to meet a schedule, wow!. Well done to you too Maya, camera work and editing really good as always and I so enjoyed your music with your guitar playing friend. Looking forward to next Friday already :-) Dave

Fine video !! I have three suggestions......First, its very handy to have a list outside of the gunnel, since there will be numerous contact there, hard or soft....Maybe a square wooden list, screwed on and either dyed and oiled , easy to replace too. Or a thick rope, could also work as a buffer....... Second: a tiller extention/extension? . Good to have when sailing, since you have to use your weight to balance the dinghy. I am 74 and my first boat was a Finn dinghy, which I still have, and the wooden pin on a universal metal knot is either laying along the tiller, or used when need be.Absolutely useful.... Third: For sailing its very comfortable to have a band on the bottom to stick your feet under when sailing, as I have two of those on my Finn, which is 4.50 m long and 1.6 m wide, with 10 sq.m sail. As I write I might mention over time, maybe two planks under lenghtwise would stabilize the boat, and also protect the bottom when dragging it up on beaches....They could have a alu band under, then they will last longer too..... Anyway, just my five cent suggestion, and all the best and varm greetings from Sweden !!

Lovely happiness with that boat, Aladino, Maya, Dad. I felt the melancholic music - beautiful though - did not reflect the happiness of the moment, but it did not dominate the story. Your videos and storytelling are really up there, believe me. So this is not a complaint. Just thinking out loud the Dutch way - about 11 miles away as the crow flies from the epiphany paint company. The oars - human powered - thing make it nice and remind of moments where an outboard engine did not want to start while being rather far away from the mother ship ;) It makes me curious to see where you take yourselves and the YT-viewers.

Well, a lot of people paint their plywood boats ... I never had the heart to do this on my boats. Covering the beautiful ply is a kind of crime, even if paint is more durable than varnish. And, for me important: If the ply is varnished transparently, you see better if there is a change in colour due to water intrusion and repair quicker. Just my point of view :-)

@emilybh6255 Год назад
I can't wait to see the first sailing video of the dinghy and see how the off center centerboard/dagger board will perform. I hope you try it out on a day with a fair amount of wind. After all, when you are using it as a tender for your big boat, you will be using it under all kinds of conditions. Why do the thwarts- (the seats that you sit on to row the boat, that go from the port to the starboard sides of the boat vs from bow to stern )- have what look like walls that hang part way down to the floor? Is that for ballast or extra flotatation or is there storage in there (or what)? I was thinking it would be nice if those thwarts were removable on days when you just wanted to sail it. Moving from side to side during tacking would be a lot easier and there would be more leg room if you could remove them. Last but not least (and I bet Maya's Dad would approve of this), consider putting an oarlock in the stern (off center) so you can scull the boat with just one oar. It makes it less desirable to thieves and harder to steal if are only carrying one oar since so few people know how to scull. If I can learn, so can anyone.

I need to ask as I didn't see one, but do you have a centre board or daggerboard? When sailing, the sail almost always imparts some level of force perpendicular to the keel. This force causes your vessel to "slide" sideways. We call this leeway.

Great boat well done. I love hard dinghy's particularly rowing dinghy's I switched from inflatables some years back the main reason being small outboards don't really handle life at sea in my hands so become unreliable quite quickly. however rowing always works and you can row surprisingly long distances relatively easily. Only time the oars weren't so great was when I lost one during a voyage for unknown reasons I arrived at an anchorage and my daughter was to meet me with a new set of oars problem was to get ashore with one oar problem solved by using a boat hook in place of one oar which worked surprisingly well. Only problem with hard dinghy's which Aledino may struggle with is they are easy to get aboard to store on deck due to lightness but any knock between boats can remove paint from either I have come to the idea that the dinghy is a working boat easily painted so it is now regarded as sacrificial so is treated roughly in favour of the home vessel. A few paint chips and rubs just add to character.
