If you’re concerned about chipping, a glossy spray varnish should add a clear protective coat while keeping the shiny metallic look! It’s something I use as a miniature painter all the time.
I’ve tried something like that before for a Mandalorian helmet project and the gloss finish cause the metallic paint to crack, chip and peel automatically without me even touching it. Idk if it’s a chemical reaction or a moisture problem but I don’t think a gloss finish will work. If anything it might make things much worse
@@alec7501That's really odd, honestly. I use gloss varnish over metallic acrylic paints all the time. Sounds like a chemical reaction definitely happened but I wonder why.
That came out awesome! Here's a trick if you want your paint coating on plastic to be peel proof, once the model is assembled use #0000 Steel Wool, it's a super fine grit abrasive and it will make tons of micro scratches on the surface where the paint is to be applied. Primers are thicker than finishing paint so they have filler properties so the scratch won't show and it offers a better adhering surface for your primer. I've spray painted LOTS of plastic parts, not Lego, but the same principle applies. Can't wait to see your chromed out N-1!
Quick pro tip, you have to prep the bricks for paint, use scotch bright steel wool to scratch the bricks up for paint, also paint in warm temps allowing 24 hours before painting
this is awesome man, always wanted more chrome ships as the UCS N1 starfighter was one of my first sets back in 2002/3 - love how the build and ship turned out
@@coconutbricksstudios Thanks man! Thats means a lot! I did something like this 9 months ago ( a Old Republic siege of the jedi temple MOC -with malgus you know ). If it helps i can show you photos of it! I not really finished it becouse its costed a lot but you can see what it looks like in 100/80%! If it helps then just say it and i send it to you!
If you want to take your chrome skills up a notch, definitely look into an airbrush with a polishable metallic paint, then a high gloss coat, then a quick buff with a rotary tool of choice (think dremel tool). Let me know if you ever need a quick tutorial, I’d be happy to assist! Love the way the ship turned out, very nice job!
Hachiroku is the man, great looking build! Did you clearcoat it? I ask because the more you handle it the more likely the paint will wear off. Especially on the edges of the bricks. Either way, killer boots dude! ✌️❤️🌮's
Shame Lego don't make make chrome bricks anymore because this looks awesome, knowing me I'd probably end up machining bricks out of aluminium if I wanted a chrome build.
Wow impressive most impressive great job on painting the pieces are you planning to make the Queen amidala starship from ep 1? Just subscribed can’t wait to see more just browsing into your old videos. Greetings from 🇨🇦
I'm curious, when you add a coat of paint on a Lego brick, how much does it affect the brick's ability to sit next to another brick? I don't know how thick the coat of paint is, but there's not much space in between bricks to start with.
I’ve wanted to see this and the larger ship from Episode One as fully chromed out UCS sets. But curious that you said that chromed Lego pieces chip and peel? I’ve never had that happen to my chromed Lego pieces and I’ve got chromed pieces from nearly 30 or more years ago and they’re still in great shape.
I watched the original video from hachiroku24 and I think you messed up on the front a little bit... But it is a great video! The chromed ship looks awsome!!!!!
3:00 You're saying knockoff as if Mega isn't Lego's biggest building block competitor. That's just disrespectful to Mega, which is a brand that produces some really quality sets and figures.
I agreed with this, as a guy who owns a couple of halo sets over the years, I would say that the brick quality has improved a lot for a competitor, but yet mega gets called by Lego purists as knockoff or fake despite mega doing their own thing for their own set while garnering hate just for existing by purists. Same thing with Cobi which is just uncalled for.
Great job, Hachiroku24 is such a talented builder. I used his video for inspiration on my Rancor. His videos are sooooo good for helping to recreation his designs. This chromed look has come out amazingly. What a stunning display piece you have created. Great work Ethan. Keep up the great work. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Coconut instead of making weekly videos you could try spreading the videos farther apart, make them more interesting exciting, and you could make more build challenge videos.
That's great! I think that the only way to make it better would be to paint it with airbrush if you are intrested you should check out green stuff chrome for example
