“Is she supposed to look like this?” 😂 Yes kind of. That is a Monstera and they are climbers. It will get top heavy and unruly and maybe even break itself if allowed to grow to far without support. A stick, a pole, a trellis, you can get creative with it but the plant needs a helping hand to stay upright as it grows.
@danielamaus
@danielamaus 6 дней назад
The support should be on the back of the plant, where the aerial roots grow, that side should face away from the light, so the leaves can face towards the light / sun. Most other plants like to be rotated, monsteras do not, they should always face in the same direction.
@LaraLovesBees
@LaraLovesBees 6 дней назад
@@danielamaus My sister put one in a much larger pot and put it in a corner. It filled out nicely, evenly and would look perfect in any corner wherever she moved (as long as there was good light). The larger pot allowed her to use a thicker, more stable support due to it's depth. If the plant got too heavy for the support, she could put an eye bolt into the wall and tie the support to that.
@lxs118

Personally, I'd opt for a larger, deeper pot with a lower layer of rocks for drainage and a sturdy pole or two for support. A remote moisture sensor will tell you when the plant needs water and how much -- you don't want to drown the roots. But in terms of visual style, you've got the post-modern or late-1940s/early-1950s atomic thing beautifully achieved. Well done!

This self watering pot is so esthetically cool! Sydney Plant Guy (YT videos) are my go to for answering " is this plant supposed to look like this?" and how your Monstera could be living it's best life. Adding a creative diy (from recycled materials) moss pole and some more tech to monitor conditions ( temp, humidity, light etc) would assist determining when to water would be the next upgrade. Happy growing 😻

Your plant should go in all directions. I have one that I bought at a grocery store, maybe 10 years ago, that covers an entire wall now. I gave it sphagnum moss totem to climb on and I chop off sections from time to time to keep it from taking over the whole room. I love that you are concerned for your plant's health while you're away. She's a lucky plant!

@prosie1968
@prosie1968 6 дней назад
The plant is supposed to look like that, it’s technically a climbing plant so eventually it would appreciate a support or moss pole. Plants don’t need to continually moist, so plan for a deeper watering once a week or so. If you could rig this to keep a moss pole moist and the aerial roots could attach to that! That would be genius.

Hi from Canada 🙂If you drill holes into the bottom of your egg planter and put a piece of landscaping cloth over the holes on the inside of the egg then the dirt will not fall out through the holes but all extra water/fertilizer will drip back into the base - so your plant will not drown or get root rot - even if the pump stays on a bit too long! I sort of worry about electrolysis damaging your egg -- especially with the salts in fertilizer - spraying the inside with a sealer of some sort might keep the aluminum from damaging the plant and vice versa also! Good JOB and good luck in your life 🙂

One thing you could consider putting in your Tiny House is a Closed Terrarium. Usually it consists out of 1 giant bowl in which you provide everthing a tiny jungle needs for nutrients etc. The whole thing is completely closed off and everything from nutrients to water stays in a closed loop system. For example: the plants take water from the ground, they evaporate it through their leaves, that condensates and drips into the ground again. The idea is that this self-sustaining system will outlive you without much extra care

That Monstera plant is actually a tropical plant that gives fruits (which are super delicious). But of course it needs tropical climate to give fruits and actually it only survives inside our houses... The plant is trying to reach more to the sun, because it needs sun to grow, that is why it looks like that! My wife also loves this plant, I wish we would have a green house with glasses, so that the plant can grow bigger and give some fruits 😮‍💨

Love the quirky, fun design! The plant, Monstera Deliciosa, is an aroid. In its natural rainforest environment it grows aerial roots to attach itself to trees & climb up toward be😅three light. The level of engineering of the watering system is somewhat wasted on this plant. If you were to make a moss pole, plastic on the back, coated wire mesh on the front, and filled with tree fern fibre or sphagnum moss you’ll end up with a lush plant with little effort. Water it with a nutrient solution every 2-4 weeks via the top of the moss pole & you should end up with a big gorgeous plant! So glad you had fun making this project! 😊

Monstera Monstera plants thrive in bright, indirect sunlight. They can tolerate some direct sunlight but should be shielded from harsh afternoon rays The monstera plant requires moderate levels of watering. Always assess your plants watering needs first before giving it a drink. You can do this by poking your finger in the soil to assess its dryness level. If the soil is dry to a depth of one to two inches, then go ahead and give it a drink. fun stuff laura i hope the info helps
