I could see using a dowel to separate the wire from the insulation. Just tac a bar to the table so your guy can take a wire end with wire in one hand and insulation in the other. Have your barrel away from the table, put the wire and copper on opposite sides of the dowel and just walk over to the barrel. When you get there, you have 2 pieces. Its a time saver.

When ever I get wire if its from motors or for stripping. When ever I find it to be aluminium I feel sick...lol. If its a Chinese motor its probably aluminium windings. Aluminium has half the melting point to copper. So when you take the motor apart it will be interesting to see if its copper or aluminium windings.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Год назад

Question- would your granulator work to shred all the shielding from wires? I had a thought that if you built a "simple" feed attachment for the granulator, essentially 2 rubber rollers sandwiched together attached to a motor. Then after the wire was fed through the stripper, you could feed the shield part into these rollers (holding onto the wire) and it would take most of the work required to physically separate the wire from the shielding and ultimately shred it. You'd be able to quickly separate the wire from shielding with minimal physical work.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Год назад
Yes, it was originally a plastic granulator. But I think It would be a waste of time and energy because I don't get paid for the insulation.
@famousamoso7
@famousamoso7 Год назад
@@ProjectShopFl I understand that, I was just thinking that if you shredded it and subsequently bagged it, it would break down easier in the landfill and be less trash overall for the planet. lol Otherwise even without shredding it if you utilized some sort of feed system that someone could feed the insulation into (while holding the wire) it would make that process more streamlined especially when you have the shorter pieces coming through the stripper.

I can see a few ways to make this more efficient. use an interrupt pedal for stopping the cutter. discharge operator stops output and split left/right or trash container on bottom of table. direct the insulation down, copper on top. release pedal.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Год назад
Interesting idea, I already have the interrupter witch is the Hurst shifter mounted on the front. If some one was on the back side all that is not needed because you are picking up clean copper.
@jeepxj
@jeepxj Год назад
@@ProjectShopFl think 2 open hands to manage the 2 types of product coming out. foot pedal to control speed/activation. using the hurst means one less hand to deal with product. they're about 30-40 bucks used on ebay for the good ones. plus 20 bucks for a hvac relay to take the motor load. the ideal is 2 open hands so they can fold copper going into the good product tub. then you can do longer lengths more efficiently. i'd venture a guess at twice the lb's moved if made a new table for product/waste going into tubs semi automatic. less touches the better.
@jeepxj
@jeepxj Год назад
@@ProjectShopFl just looked again. i can see it in my head on connecting the lever handle to a foot pedal on the output side. no switch needed. just some rod ends and all thread.
