Mike has good taste in games. Just look at those behind him. Really miss him being on with Tom and Zee, they are so entertaining together. I thought this game looked beautiful and interesting, but it was quite expensive and wasn't sure about the gameplay. Curious to see other reviews. They are doing a second campaign May 2024.
I believe the price had to be revisited and raised to meet the actual costs of manufacturing, production, and delivery. I lament missing out on this during the first wave!
I almost backed this, but the price was a bit steep, but I'd certainly give it a try. I dig action point games when they're done well, and this sounds like it is here.
It’s not a very long set-up at all. I’ve played many, many Euro games with much longer set-ups. At the end of the game, you simply gather the tiles randomly, and you’re set for the next game.
@@Doujou yup basically. I remember the first time setting it up thinking "dang i gotta do all this?" but like Mike said it really wasn't that bad and kind of fun.
So many comments about the set up - as an owner, it’s not bad AT ALL. He showed the set-up to display the physical depth which is epic! The layers always get me excited. Thank you for an amazing review.
Looking at the set up seemed daunting. How long does set up and tear down take? Also, can you set up the game and not meta-game some knowledge about where something is? I realize you're not going to remember what every lower tile is, but at least one that your particular faction may want? I was concerned about the fiddly nature of the game, and the possibility for meta-game knowledge that I didn't back this one. It's a neat theme that's done in a clever way, and I'm sure digging and excavating feels super thematic. But I'd have to see more reviews to determine if this is for me.
I think if you played the game once you’d realize that the meta information you’re referring to is a non-issue. There are multiple tiles of every color scattered about. Once you excavate a tile the lower tile colors become visible to everyone. The top tiles with the powers should be laid out face down, so there’s no advance information there. I actually shot the review portion twice (the first attempt had technical issues) and in that first attempt I spent a few minutes talking about how the set-up and tear down is not bad at all. It’s less than almost any heavy Euro I’ve played. I forgot to mention it in the final version, and that’s a shame, because judging from the comments, that seems to be a concern. I don’t find it to be a negative at all. The insert is great, and after the initial set-up for the first game, set-up and tear down is actually pretty fast.
@@michaeldilisio557 thanks for the reply! I'll keep all that in mind should this ever come to retail and I feel like checking it out! I'm very picky with backing crowdfunding projects nowadays as I'm afraid of getting burned. Sometimes it's helped me avoid a dud, and sometimes I miss out on things like Endless Winter lol .
Mike, Can you pick and choose the legacy like modules to add to random games? I probably wouldn’t play with the same group over and over to add the actual legacy-like elements as written. Or do you just simply play the base game each time?
Nice Review. Too bad it's only for people that already have the game coming in (via crowdfunding). Apparently this game had a lot of issues with delivery (KS shows Apr 2022 as Est. delivery) and now it's not available. Maybe a reprint or Expansion KS will happen
I tend to keep solo reviews as a separate thing. I always like to reserve the right to review the solo game specifically. I will tell you though that I think the solo game is very good.
I was having a very crazy time when this hit for pledging, and I missed it. Every video I see makes it more apparent that this one got away....for now.
Im surprised that setup is not a negative....I cant imagine how long it would take to shuffle and place all these tiles, especially by groups based on level. How long does it take to setup? its literally the only reason I cancelled my pledge on this and why I resold overboss despite liking the gameplay...I just cant stand the awful setup.

This is a really interesting game, but my group got some rules wrong in our first playthrough. I lost out on a lot of points by hoarding artifacts for their special powers and ran out of time to send them to the city.
