In the past I have only used the interfacing on the edges. I cut out enough to give me a 2 inch border and I fuse that to the inside. It does take more work but it saved a lot of interfacing and it also keeps the quilt very cuddly. Hopefully that will help someone.

Hopefully I’ll be able to acquire P44F now in 2022. I’m going to be making a memory quilt for my niece. Going to try to source out the interfacing before I even start to cut any of the clothing. Thanks for sharing all your know how. 👍❤️😊

I am currently fixing a quilt that was made not using fusible interfacing. There are holes everywhere! I would not make a quilt without interfacing. I love the idea of a thick interfacing for the northern states and a thin one for a thinner quilt/cozy feeling.

Yes I have made a lot of t shirt quilta with out interfacing. the trick is to besure you put a woven material between each block. to long arm you just need to make sure the top is stretched taught. All of mine quilts have come out great.

I am working on my first (and probably last) t-shirt quilt top. I mostly do alterations and memory bears and so forth. I have totally relied on your instructions and tips and so appreciate you taking the time to share your wisdom. I have only used Pellon ShirTailor 950F, because that is what I use for memory bears. It's working well so far and I have been able to find it online once in awhile on Hobby Lobby and JoAnns.But it's only 20" wide/1 yd. for $2.09
@clairejordan1547

I make bears also.. does this interfacing make it too thick? How do you find it? I sew on a domestic machine.. I'm getting desperate 😣
@MamaBearx10
@MamaBearx10 4 года назад
@@clairejordan1547 it works well for most fabric. I used to get good-sized packages of it at Walmart, and they has it on the bolt, too, but not anymore. I was able to get some online from Hobby Lobby and once from JoAnns online

Hello Lisa- thanks so much for your videos: so helpful. QUESTION - WHAT ABOUT LIGHTLY SPRAYING BLOCKS WITH WASHABLE GLUE SPRAY TO HOLD AND PREVENT STRETCHING WHEN QUILTING? Just thinking it might give it the stability you need in the machine quilting step.

I use a generous amount of starch...no interfacing. I have made many t shirt quilts and no complaints.

Hi Diane, I'm new to quilting and I have a ton of t shirts and knit materials that I very much want to turn into quilts. Interfacing may not be in the budget, at least not in the amounts it seems are needed to make the quilts. I'd be very appreciative if you would teach me your method!
@dianephillips2444
@dianephillips2444 4 года назад
ari demacy I cut the T-shirt about 1in square...bigger than The finished square. Ex. If the finished square is to be 16...I cut 17 in. Then I saturate with starch, then iron it out and once it is dry, I cut the final desired size. I have never had any problems. They cut easily and sew together easily. Good luck.

Hi, I'm a new subscriber and am literally just starting on my very first quilt and I chose t shirts... I tend to try to run before I can even walk... Lol My question is this... Would some sort of tear or wash away stabilizer for sewing /embroidery work? I've found some online that say they stabilize knits and delicate. And they would be more in line with the budget I have to work with. Based on that info it seems like the wash away might work for the piecing through to the quilting /finishing. The tear away maybe just for the piecing. Thoughts, suggestions, opinions, ideas please?

if it is self adhesive or fusible then I say yes.....however most of those that I've ever found are pretty pricey.

You say the glue basting and starch washes out. Do you wash the quilt before giving it to the client or do you instruct them how to wash it?

One book I read said to just heavy starch shirts rather than interface, have you tried that?
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead 3 года назад
Hi Holly, I have tried that......back before I started using interfacing :) For me, it took even longer to starch the shirts.....and dry them and repeat the whole process until they were to my liking. For me, it's just faster to use the interfacing...we are all different and I think what works for each of us will be different.

Hi Jody, she didn't have an answers for that. They are in Florida and currently in stage 2. They are short staffed and many can not return to work yet. I guess it depends on the Covid numbers in Florida, and how they progress through the phases of re-opening.
