• King Ashoka had sent his son Mahendra and daughter Sanghamitra to Sri Lanka to spread Buddhism. Their names are mentioned in the Buddhist text 'Mahavamsa' written in Sri Lanka. • Dugong, an endangered, herbivorous, marine mammal, also known as the Sea Cow is the State Animal of the Andaman and Nicobar island. It mainly feeds on sea-grass and other aquatic vegetation. India's first ever dugong conservation reserve in the Palk Bay area of the Gulf of Mannar.
