It's interesting that it ties right back to the start of the game. When Jin was learning to fight from his uncle and his uncle asks him what he thinks the most important part of being a samurai is and young Jin says it's protecting people while his uncle says it's acting with honour.

The writing really comes full circle, Jin was ready to do anything to protect his people, which meant changing into the ghost over the course of the game. Just fantastic writing from the devs.

He was a well-rounded character in the sense that he struggled with what he was doing and he often contemplated on how he was going about his journey. He wasn't going on an all-out spree of just murdering everyone who wrongs him. And as much as possible, he gave them the honorable way of battle. In the end, I believe sparing the jito was the canon ending with how Jin as a person was. He said it himself, "I have no honor, but I will not kill family."

I just want to say that, hands down, you are the best streamer/RU-vid gaming channel I've seen. The best. I started to watch your content because of Fatal Frame 5 since you were the only person playing the game that could translate and also give great commentary. I've seen several of your gameplays multiple times, you are such a pro. Seriously, you do a great job. You are a good player, you show respect for the pieces but are also critical of them. I respect you so much for your empathy and optimistic personality. Also, you hair is so pretty. (you are very pretty overall but your hair is especially pretty). Yeah, that's it, that's all. Thank you for the content. ❤️

This ending floored me. I’ve never had a game make me hesitate so much. I didn’t even want them to give me back control for that duel. I deflected and parried for over a minute because I didn’t want to strike him. My girlfriend looked over at me wondering why I wasn’t attacking and seeing me with tears down my face. His smile as he said “You were my son” and his tears while writing his words. For Samurai, emotions must be controlled but even he couldn’t hold it back. I chose to spare but loaded a save just before to see kill and it is far more gut wrenching. I would highly recommend you RU-vid the alternate choice Gab. The music and scenery, that final duel will stay with me for a long time.

I think, that Jin could still marry Yuna, even if he still was Samurai, because Japan didn't have fixed cast system until Toyotomi Hideyoshi came to power. He, ironically, went from peasant to Shogun during Sengoku Jidai and then made this journey impossible to everyone else. Till then people could move through the social layers, but after his rule and during Tokugawa Shogunate, peasants were peasants, samurai were samurai, etc. Since story of this game is around 300 years before Toyotomi's rise to power, I see no bigger problem with this marrige.

To me Jin's story reminds me much of Joan of Arc's. A mythical person on the battlefield who could change the tied of any out numbered fight. Who was persecuted in the end for what they did, because of the fear they stoked in those above them. The only solution the top ranking officials had, their death (for both Joan and Jin). Just how it was back in olden times, kill whatever you can't explain or control.

There's a lot of differences in the way the Japanese plays out compared to English. There's a TON of extra English dialogue, but in Japanese Jin barely says anything. That could be either because Japanese dialogue simply wouldn't say such things as comments, or they didn't record everything in Japanese. I'm guessing the latter.

I’m excited you commented on the whole “last words of clan Sakai, AND clan Shimura” moment. This small detail broke my heart the first time around because I felt it really drove home how much Shimura loved Jin. While they were riding earlier, Jin says to Shimura, “you can always remarry” and Shimura responds, “yes, I suppose I can”. Just from the way he says this, I could tell that Shimura has no real intention of doing so. Starting a new family and naming a new successor is what is expected of him, but Shimura knows that even if he kills Jin, he will never recover. In Shimura’s eyes, regardless of what Jin has done, Jin will always be his son. If Shimura fulfills the Shogun’s orders and kills Jin, there will be no new successor to clan Shimura.

First play through Shimura killed me because I couldn’t see through the tears to fight. Had to pause, bawl for a bit, try again all while saying “ I don’t wanna do this” over and over again. Took longer to decide whether to kill or spare him than it did to defeat him. I went with kill because it was what he wanted and seemed traditional and I was afraid he would be forced to commit Seppuku regardless. Repeat play throughs and I still bawl through that fight or when hearing the music. Ilan Eshkeri is a masterful artist.

Spoilers.... i knew the final boss battle was gonna be between Jin and Shimura. I felt it as I rode my horse to the training circle Uncle Shimura trained me. I knew the game was gonna give me a choice between killing him and sparing him and I said I'd spare him due to how kind he was and how he raised Jin. But as I wrote that final Haiku and dueled him for an hour until I won and was faced with the choice of killing him or sparing him,it hit me. Sparing him was a mercy for Jin,but,then I realized it meant disrespecting Shimura due to being raised as a samurai. A warriors death at the hands of the son he never had,meant more than living knowing he turned away from the samurai code completely. Dying at jins hand in an honorable duel is more acceptable than living in the shame of not only Tsushima,but the Shogun of Japan. I killed him. It was more than tradition,it meant showing that every thing he taught me would always be a part of me on the deepest level.

@@metalman329 It's a moral decision. Killing him there in the moment is honouring his wishes, and Jin showing that he does actually still have honour and honours the old ways and ways or the samurai and respects Shimura. The spare ending is as close to a "bad" ending as there is. You spit in the face of Shimura, even taunting him with the passive-aggressive "I have no honour" line. Putting on the ghost mask right in front of Shimura, Jin is fulling embracing the ghost persona and admitting he has completely shed the old ways. And worse yet, even though you did not kill Shimura, even if he lives, he will surely be punished for his failure and forced to commit seppuku so he dies anyway.

@@LawloGaming I disagree. By choosing to spare your Uncle you are saying that the bonds you've forged and the ones you love mean more to you than a code that deep down doesn't mean anything. By killing him you're just being a hypocrite( albeit for someone elses sake). I refuse to believe that not killing your uncle and standing by what you believe in is the *bad* ending. Jin would never taunt his uncle. I feel thats not even close to something Jins character might do. I can't even begin to fathom how anyone would believe that. By putting on his mask he was telling his Uncle to let go of the Jin he knew because he wasn't there anymore.

Sucker Punch did the ending so perfectly. It was so incredibly powerful (even more powerful if you choose to honor his wish). The music, visuals, everything. On my first playthrough, I chose to kill him. I made him suffer enough, and I felt I owed him an act of honor after everything. It wasn't just about killing or sparing, but about how Shimura himself felt. That was the basis behind my decision. And I'm glad I did, because I got to use the white dye for the Ghost Armor in my NG+ playthrough, and use the hell out of it in Act III to really blend in with the snow. It's also better than the red, imo. But you could argue that sparing him completes Jin's character as someone who does what his heart tells him, instead of being concerned about honor all the time. Still, I couldn't bring myself to leave him hanging like that. But I did choose to spare in my NG+ playthrough (that I just completed), so that I could get the red dye. Honestly a little salty that choosing to honor his wish gives you a lightning storm in the middle of nowhere (though next to a hot spring) in Toyotama, whereas sparing him gives you such beautiful scenery closer to your home and next to the Omi Monastery.

As sad as it is. A Samurai lives and dies by the sword. Death before dishonour. There’s no right nor wrong decision in this end. But I honestly believe granting a Samurai’s death made more sense into the final ending and complemented the final haiku.

This game touched my heart, it touched my very soul. Oh how beautiful the story progression was and the character development. The music was perfect, the composer really knew what he was doing, everything felt like it was on point. Ghost of Tsushima was one of the most beautiful game I've played in 2020 and it struck me in the feels so many times both good and bad. Big thanks to Sucker Punch Studios and everyone that was involved in this game, you really did something special. Thank you Gab for an amazing streaming journey.

Just finished binge watching your series on this and your reactions throughout this game pulled me right along side of you, even though I had finished this game, probably close to the same time you did. I cried right with you during all the heart felt scenes! I've watched a few play-throughs of this game now and I would have to say, yours was the best. Mainly because of your empathetic reactions and the insight you gave throughout towards the Japanese voice acting and dialog. The game was designed to be played in English, (lip syncing was done for English dialog), and I'd suggest for English speaking people they should play it in English first. Not because the English voice acting is any better than the Japanese, they are on equal footing, in my opinion. I actually started playing this with subtitles and Japanese VA, because I'm a die-hard subtitle fan when watching movies and such, but right in the first battle I was missing subtitles because I was concentrating solely on gameplay. I quickly restarted and played the English version. The main reason you should consider playing this in English first, if you don't understand Japanese, is you do miss things if you play with subtitles and Japanese VA. Throughout the game the NPC bystanders develop feelings for the Ghost and his methods and if you walk slowly through villages, camps and Pagodas, you hear them speaking and get a feeling of how the public feels about you, which is a really nice touch. You do not get this if you don't understand Japanese, because the game doesn't subtitle the background conversations. The other reason is, there are moments in this game where the dialog continues through the thick of battle and, once again if you don't understand Japanese, you can miss key elements or suggestions from your compatriots in the game. I watched someone playing this with subtitles once and they missed key info during a battle and were thoroughly confused as to what to do next afterwards, even though the characters around them had mentioned what they should do, simply because the player missed the subtitles during the battle. This was definitely my 2020 GOTY. 🥰

the sad thing is that lord shimura never refers to the ghost in such a way that it would sound that he isn't talking about jin. for example he says "the ghost will be hunted for the rest of his days" instead of "you will be hunted for the rest of your days". it really shows how shimura doesn't want to believe that his nephew and the ghost are the same person

Yes, Jin and Yuna truly are in love. But just is a super hard time to fall in love :( In Khan's and Jin's final fight. The bad thing is, the Khan dynasty has been remembered for centuries on end (well bad and good. They taught us much about war, culture and more, even if they were pretty brutal) Jin and Uncle's fight made me pretty dang sad tbh :( cried at the start of it. If there is a sequel to this game, I hope it follows Tomoe actually, as a female warrior fighting back against armies and escaping from authorities

The last fight is so emotional. I also really liked (and can recommend to check out) gamer's little playground game movie. Because they are not as strong as Gab-Jin, Jin keeps saying several times "Please, let me go in peace" and when I saw that, how he kept pleading to his uncle, because he really doesn't wanna fight him, it just hit me so hard. GLP has also JP dub or EN. But what an amazing series! Glad to have experienced it with u 😊🙏🏻 Thank you!

I just had to save the game at that point to see both. My initial choice was kill as I wanted to respect his wishes and give him the death he desired. It also showed there was still love between them and Jin's cry after he does it is heartbreaking. After that the spare option felt weaker. It was also interesting to see the difference which is really only the colour of the Ghost Armour you get, where your "house" is located and when you come back after the credits. Kill - White Ghost Armour (Righteous Punishment) and living in Dawn Refuge (next to a hot spring) and you start at night sitting in your bed with thunder ringing out vs Spare - Red Ghost Armour (Vow of Vengeance) and living in Traditions End (near Omi Temple) and you start during a sunny day writing or drawing. There's only a slight difference in dialog from Yuna.

I feel that the English dub of this last part of the game was phenomenal. You can just feel the sadness from Lord Shimura when he says he has to kill Jin with that voice acting. I was hoping you would pick the kill ending. That ending is a lot more sadder because of what Shimura says to Jin before dying.

The last sequence is very heart moving story. But actually say, that was little bit fantasy impression. If Jin Sakai still have way of Bu-shi heart, he will choose suicide by his own blade even after losing Bu-shi status. Maybe he didn't abandon his honor, but just choose different way from traditional of Bu-shi. Unfortunately, some Japanese language in this game didn't translate precisely, but most of it described Kamakura age of Japan nicely. (^^);

I just beat the game today, so now I can finally watch your video! Won't be able to watch the full video in one sitting, so here are my comments so far: At the beginning of the game, I chose the gray dappled horse and named him "Sora". Was devastated to lose him, as you were with Kage. When I got the opportunity to get a new horse, I went for white and chose the name "Kaze". Sora and kaze, sky and wind. Felt perfect to me.
@blitzgirl6522
@blitzgirl6522 4 года назад
EDIT: So glad that we both chose different outcomes with the Shimura fight, so I could see the alternative! I chose to kill him, since it was his wish. As Jin, I was disobeying him so often that it felt fitting to honor his wish at the end. The "Kill" ending was more emotional for sure, and I don't blame Gab for choosing to spare Shimura. BUT! They actually reconcile with that ending, so in a way it's the "better" ending. You also get a white dye for the Ghost outfit, and your base is in a different location!
