Mitch Marner offered some thoughts on in his end of season press conference that did not go over very well with Leafs fans. #hockey #nhl #torontomapleleafs
@@matthewbarry7026 Who will be the next scapegoat in Toronto though? Mitch's comment is such a nothingburger. He's 100% right. But people like pearl-clutching over comparisons to deities (c.f. John Lennon's comment about the Beatles and Jesus).
i mean lennon said he was like of god, marner is saying that the people treat the good players on the leafs like gods which is true. people got this mindset that because we have decently good and even great players that they're above all other players and should be deep playoff by default but its just not the reality of it and people have to realize that as well. @@igmusicandflying
he kind of still is a lesser McDavid. But it's unfair to compare anyone to McDavid, he's consistently done stuff we thought was insane before he started doing them on the regular like those 120+ PTS seasons.
I think Marner is just tired of being lambasted all the time by the Toronto media if he has a bad game or a bad series. Dude is still probably not fully healed of his torn ACL which is one of the most difficult injuries to return from in the sport. It usually tends to be why many players dislike playing in the massive Canadian markets. The fans and media forget that they are human beings too and not gods. Personally, I think it was tongue-and-cheek at the media.
It wasn't tongue and cheek and if it was (it wasn't) that's arguable even worse. He has yet to have a good series. And if his ACL was an issue, he wouldn't be playing. We were missing two of our best players because of a headache and stomach issues so a torn ACL would be looked at with even more scrutiny for Marner's long term performance and health. Also, players don't like Canadian markets because you give 50% of your income to the government after income tax, property tax, a 13% HST on all items purchased through the year, carbon tax, etc. Most NHL players would love a fanbase as hardcore as the Leafs. The guy hasn't been happy here for a long time and it makes the most sense to send him over anyone else in the core 4.
Mitch Marner prior to post season played NHL '24 on PS5 "Franchise Mode". Leafs were eliminated in the first round by the Bruins. Thus. This is why Mitch didn't try in the playoffs. He already knew !!
The guy is a joke. A figure skater that loves the money and the short early exits so they all can get to the golf courses up in Muskoka. Another great Leaf season for the players! Well done boys. Time to light a bomb under this team. Bring back Babs and develop a gritty team in Toronto for a change!
Gods? I'm a fan of Matthews and his 200ft game. But let's get real here people. No team needs a 13m 70 regular season scorer and 3 other 11m forwards to make the playoffs. Trade the farm and go after a bunch of 7m players and you'll make the playoffs and most likely make it further because more players are all in over 5 players being the beginning and end all of nothing.
Dawg, im sorry to break it out to you, but Marner was top 3 for the Selke voting last season. I'm not even a leafs fan, but that's a dumb comment lmao. He's also outscored Matthews. If you like Matthews, you like Mitch. What you did not like was his last playoffs.
This world we live in kind of sucks, the guy really just tried to make a statement he made a mistake and the response is just over the top. The best answer is just don't say anything.
Coaches..didn't match or provide a defense set. Coach should know if the other teams best player is on or off ice.. the whole de broke down..no one knew pastarnak coming on. Defense didn't shade over, goalie didn't anticipate..all coaching stuff
This shows his immaturity and naivety to life. He gets paid millions of dollars to play a game and doesn’t comprehend the bubble he exists in. He’s done jack in his “vocation” and believes he’s in “god mode” ?
Main problem is Marner is on the more unlikeable side as a personality. He comes across as phony, and more of an awkward lil guy, not a man's man, which is obviously fine, but one who pretends to be something he just isn't. Ya..
The Greek gods love heroes and Mitch is not a hero he needs a heart trust plan. Maybe then he can play a 200 ft game but he will not do it in Toronto. Good luck to him
Trade Matthews and Marner. They're both trash in the playoffs. They don't care to win. Never will. Get rid of them and get some guys that care on the team. Nylander is fine, he has a good attitude and shows up. He wants to win.
To say Matthews was trash this playoffs wouldn't be right at all, and it would almost be stupid to say. 4 points in 5 games, and at least 2 of them were played in a bad condition. He wasn't as good as in the regular season because guess what, the team they were up against wasn't a bad team. I highly doubt you'll go and say Pasta was bad even though he had what, 2 or 3 points?
They are also one of a handful of teams who don’t need tax revenue, casino revenue, or hobby team owners to build a new arena and sell it out for 50 years. Leafs fans financed the coyotes existence.
we get the "does he even care" soap opera melodrama from the major sports networks all day every day, do we really need to get it from marginal youtube channels too?
