No, 25 horsepower is just not quite enough to make a compact tractor a fully usable tool. If you are shopping new tractors, get as much horsepower as you can afford!! #CompactTractor

I think you would be happier with a real grapple. So much more flexibility and control

Watching this sold me that the added cost of a hydraulic grapple is 100% worth it

Yes same here I agree I think a hydraulic grapple would definitely work better and a bigger machine as well that’s why they have different sizes, to me the workhorse line of the NH machines are nice but you should check out the Boomer line up, that’s what I went and tested and that’s what I am going to go for, it’s the simple stuff that I like on that tractor that makes sense for me. Also having a remote hydraulic system in the front is what I am going to do as well.

I agree, my 25 HP tractor is definitely underpowered, but for my use on a small property I'd rather deal with the low HP than deal with the emissions controls. My use is all short runs, lots of engine starts and I believe for my use case a DPF would be a disaster. I think someone mowing large fields, plowing fields where they start the tractor and work it for a few hours, the DPF would be ok.

I have a L2501. Right now it works for me. I bush hog around 7 acres. But I can tell that eventually I’m gonna out grow it and will be looking to trade it in. One thing that helps me is that I have a gear driven tractor. The HST takes away from what power you have available.

We also have the workmaster 25 but with the manual transmission. I can Bush hog with a 5ft mower in medium and first or second. I haven't tried any faster because I'm cutting too many trees (up to about 2 inches) There are times it would be nice if it had the power our Ford 801 diesel has but most of the time it does really well. I just hope it holds up as well as the old Ford. We've had it for about 42 years and it was my grandparents before that.

Happy you took my suggestion and went with nothing less than 40 HP. I know the emissions were of your concern. Kubota emissions work without issue... I am happy for you finally making a good decision. 40 HP is the perfect size tractor. MY 32 HP kubota which is now 7 years old and has ZERO emissions is the perfect size for living in Virginia Beach, especially when work has to be complete around tight situations around houses. But when shit hits the fan, I pull out the 60 HP Grand L. I am truly happy for you.

It weighs 1444 lbs with the loader and bucket. Box blade weighs about 360. Look it up. I mow 5 acres with it no problem at 9 mph in high, 2wd. I only need to use 4wd when I'm going up a slope. Belly mower is a better choice than pulling a brush hog IF you're cutting grass.

I had a kubota L2501 manual trans tractor! First new tractor I had! I was the same as you trying avoiding emissions garbage! For the most part it did it’s job! Numerous times I ran into problems dragging dual a box blade and also has to avoid rear snow blowers because they required 30 Hp or more! Also being the type of work I do requires intricate placement of the forks and bucket …being a manual trans I was constantly lightly riding the clutch creeping into position! So after 6 years I went back to the dealer and thought about my options….like you I absolutely love the size of my tractor and was happy with it other than HP ( and a manual but that was my bad for choosing it for the applications I was doing) I ended up with a L3902 …..couldn’t be happier! Good video with excellent explanations f your opinion! Tractors are like vehicles ….there’s not one vehicle that’ll do everything someone wants or needs …just finding the right one to do most is key!

That brush crusher is a really neat design. Adding a 3rd function valve and grapple will really change your life though. There are definitely times I could use a bigger tractor... But then there will be times I could use a smaller, more maneuverable, tractor. We just need to have multiples :)

Looking like it a nice day, after seeing that crusher working I think you may need to adjust that bottom striker so that it hits the loader frame sooner so when you curl over the hydraulics it squeezes the brush earlier and you don't run out of ram extension . It's probably not far out from where it should be , the bottom tynes probably don't need to come back as far, maybe I wrong but that's just what I seen. 🤔

Looks like the heel of the lower jaw might need to be flipped. Then it would actually contact the loader arms. Not sure how much more adjustment is there the way they are.

Everyone needs to keep in mind that hp today isn't what it was years ago. It's all about tq. Older tractors with 25 to 35 hp had double the tq they do now. This is why I believe your better off to get double or there abouts to what you might think you'll need power wise... I would also recommend after all of the time spent with the grapple that you might want to consider a third function or a diverter valve on the new tractor...

Mower I have no problems I've often wondered about these hydro transmission on these new tractors. I use the 601 cause it is small it's just 19 hp but I drag some big dogs out of woods with it without any damage to Forrest. I'm in Tennessee not sure where your from. Good choice of 40 hp. I have both a RK24 (24 Engine/19 PTO hp) and NH TC33D (33 Engine/28 PTO hp). It's always the NH TC33D I go to for any serious "work" around the farm. It's not even a conscious decision of which one to use. Good of your dealer to let you use the smaller tractor until your new one arrives. I'm planning on buying another tractor this Spring to replace the NH and it will be a 40 HP something...Right now I think Kubota or Kioti. NH dealer went out of business and a Kioti dealer replaced it. Thanks for the vid on the Brush Crusher too. I've been debating on it or a EA grapple.
@wesfogle3311
@wesfogle3311 3 года назад
I had a similar situation as you. I also had NH TC33D which was a great tractor. It had 2 problems though; it did not have a front end loader and the pto hp was a little low to run a 5ft bush hog in tall fescue. It ran a 6 ft bush hog finishing mower with no issues. After 17 yrs and 1500 hrs I decided i really needed a tractor with a loader and a few extra hp. I went with the Kioti CK4010 HST and love it. It’s 2 years old now and has. 325 hrs. I have made a handful of RU-vid videos on the tractor if you are interested.

@@wesfogle3311 Same here-really like my NH TC33D but have no FEL..here's a question that you can answer for me. Can't find dealers with inventory of Kioti to touch and feel models. Is the CK4010 smaller than the TC33D (tires and width?) I was thinking I have to go up to the DK40 to have at least the same size tractor as the NH TC33D.

Am I mistaken, or are those front hydraulics on that tractor? If so, why would you go with a BC instead of a "real" grapple? Don't get me wrong -- I have a BC-4215 on my JD 3038e, and it works fine, but I got it because I didn't want to spend extra for front hydraulics. Everything I've seen and heard leads me to believe that a hydraulic grapple is the best way to go, if possible. So, I'm not being one of "those guys" that's trying to make you feel like an idiot for your choices!!! I'm genuinely asking, if you DO have front hydraulics, what made you decide to go with the BC?

It needs a good two range. A three range on a heavy tractor with 25 hp is to much. I have a two range on my tym 264. Its perfect. Not to slow in low range. Will still pull in high range. Check out the TYM T264 if you want a 25 hp tractor that set up perfect. It’s about the same size but not a heavy. It can handle 5 foot implements. Loader can pick up almost 1400 lbs.

Low range is really good if you have something to do that's really slow like rototilling, you can jump off the tractor, go get a drink and come back and The tractor has only moved a couple of feet!!! Or when we were kids if we needed to pick up a bunch of rocks out of a field we just put it in the lowest gear idling and go stand in front of the tractor and throw rocks in when I get near the other end of the field we just jump on turn around and go back and do the same thing! Nowadays you would also have to put a big rock on the seat. 😉😁🙄 Or bypass that switch! I had a 33 horsepower New Holland for about a year-and-a-half and everytime I twitched in the seat it would kill the motor! Really bad design!!!! My 33 horsepower new Holland would pull a 5ft mower all day long in mid range up and down the hills .

That 25s will not handle 6' brushog. You have to stay with all equipment that's not any wider than the rear width of the tractor, 35hp to 45hp will do what you want but you'll probably have to have def fluid, re gen. I think Kubota doesn't have to have def fluid as their engines burn cleaner w/o re-gen to be federally compliant, plus they cold start much easier than New Holland. Plus hydraulics are stronger. I've had New Holland, John deere, Kubota. Kubota outperformed them all. None of these tractors were over 60" wide so all my equipment was 5' equipment, never had an issue but I did landscaping work and sometimes I had to get in tighter places. But if you're taking care of 10 acres or more 40 up or bigger w/a cab w/heat and air would definitely be my choice but I'm 65 and with health issues.

Sorry, you bought the wrong tractor! That Really Sucks! Hope your dealer is doing right by you! Even Tractor Mike has a New Holland, so they're all good tractors, just sucks that this one wasn't the right one for you. It took about 2 years of research before buying my Mahindra Max 26XLT which only 54" wide and has a 7.2FT turning radius and is just shy of 26 HP. Rear PTO Output is 20.2HP. Fully kitted out it only weighs about 4,000lbs. (Tractor, Loader, Backhoe, and Mower). I do almost everything in low range, but I'm in that minority of tractor owners that lives in the Burbs (for now), and it's really overkill. As for Speed with the Hydro, It's 3.7MPH forward in Low and 1.9MPH in reverse. High range which I rarely use is, 0-9.3MPH and Reverse is 0-4.7MPH. All these things mattered to me regardless of brand when looking for a tractor, #1 fit in a garage, #2 lift capacity , #3 PTO Output #4 Turning Radius, speed was #5 or 6 on the list...I wanted the biggest tractor in the smallest package I could get; and that's what I ended up buying...I've been happy, but there are some tradeoffs that other brands have that my tractor doesn't. Personally, I would definitely prefer more power, and one of my subscribers was looking at a Mahindra MAX 36 which is an Australian model with a self leveling loader...That would be sweet... Sounds like stepping up to a 40HP Turbo Diesel for you is the way to go! Like TTWT said...You deffinetly would be happier with a real grapple. My dad has an Artillian like Tim on his 3038E, but you'll have enough machine that it will easily throw around whatever you need it to with some ballast to offset the capacity. Great video! Jon@SBYD!

@@sarahann530 It’s been a couple years since the Cuyahoga river caught fire. But not surprised an extreme example was referred to. Anytime the government gets involved in anything, the cost of everything associated will exponentially rise. Always. As much, the “red tape” regulations rise as well. The government (at all levels) is extremely inefficient. I have personally worked for the federal under contract. The product we produced involved welding. The welding wire we used on our regular products was .71 cents a pound. The EXACT same welding wire for the government contract: $7.33 a pound. That was back during Desert Storm. It’s even worse today. So do I want rivers to burn? Of course not. But we also don’t need government involved in every single aspect of our lives. Let the once free market resolve various issues. Today’s Diesel engines cost 40-70% more than their predecessors. This is only one out of tens of thousands of examples. Can you guess who pays for all the government involvement? Side note: the government produces more environmental waste than some entire nations. Should we take care of the environment? Sure, but we don’t need the inefficiency and insane cost of bloated government to do it.
