Huh, I actually didn't know there was a unique bit of dialogue for doing this without Max. Mostly because I never thought of leaving the gator golf course without him. Nice touch.
You can wind up at Gator Golf before World of Fish if you decide not to go on the cone ride. In that case, Sam would have to leave to obtain the fish bucket.
I can only imagine the very first person to find this easter egg was surprised at different results; they saw what happened before and left Max somewhere to try it again...only to be surprised how well Sam can defend himself without Max around. "Hehe. Gonna do it again. This time without Max. Wait...wha?! Oh. Oh...wow."
“Look buddy, don’t make me end this and make me come out there.” And then the next voice clips are noises possibly hinting at Sam trying to escape the game.
my brother kept trying to pick up an unobtainable item that he SWORE was something he could get, and when sam started growling he shouted "I WILL EUTHANIZE YOU"

It's cool how this game changes up dialogue if you leave max in the gator golf. My personal favorite is if you try to ride the tunnel of love alone, Sam says "it wouldn't be romantic without Max"
You trying to get Sam to make him pick up something he can't even take with max: *S a d g e* You trying to make Sam pick something up but without Max: *I will come find you.*
Fun fact, if you have the subtitles on, when he says "silly object" the subtitle actually says "Object #" and each thing has its own object number. Weird but fun. EDIT: Nevermind, old news lol.
I thought it was kind of interesting that Sam gets better able to handle himself when Max isn't there in this game, but in the cartoon and the Telltale games, he's kind of a wreck when Max isn't around. Just something that the different media did differently, I guess. And if you're wrong about his whimpering, then so am I.
Hi, sorry for commenting 11 years later, but i actually think he handled himself a little worse. Without max he was about to settle it with violence and growls but with Max he was more subdued
See, the truth is Sam, it's not that you CAN'T pick that up, it's that you DON'T want to pick that up. My father told me that if you want to do something, then you can do it, and that if you can't do something then that means that you don't want to do it.
I always found this interesting about his character. He can be assertive when Max is not around... Is it wrong to think his whimpering is kinda cute? ^^;
Not at all. And considering that he used to been bullied a lot as a pup, having Max around (alive I mean) and being 6ft tall, I imagine that he's learned to stand up for himself. He also grew up in New York so there's also that. Even someone as nice as Sam has limits
@@salisburythefox8324 Yes. Sam was bullied a lot as a kid. In case you haven't noticed ( not trying to be rude), Sam is a big ol softie and he didn't really stand up for himself all that much. At least until 3rd grade when he met Max, who had retrived his ( Sam's) lunch back from a kindergartner.
you should see him without max in the telltale series. max is SAMS morality chain. not the other way around. if something happens, like say, max gets seperated from his brain, sam *WILL* get serious.

While Max on the other hand, at least what I’ve seen and noticed on the cartoon and games, if you separate Sam from Max or get rid of Sam, Max becomes sad and depressed. In the cartoon, Max was seen as an outcast from society and surprisingly slumps and does nothing. Nothing at all. In the games his smile fades and his arms, head, and ears flop down. I never expected him to be this way, I thought he would go insane, destroy property, and shoot anything, not be sad. But then again, it made me think: Max is seen as an outcast because he’s either weird or violent whether as a kid or as an adult. That is until he met Sam who probably thanked him for getting his lunch back. Max probably wouldn’t expect that but because of Sam, he feels that sometimes violence is a good thing and he uses that for good and for fun when beating bad guys. Max is noticed and feels accepted by him. Other people may think he’s strange but Sam doesn’t mind that about him. This is the guy who stood up for him and he looked up to him ever since and yes he’s also the reason Sam can get pretty violent. Sam learns to stand up for himself when Max isn’t around with him. When put together, they become the craziest duo who actually works great together. People think they’re crazy but they don’t care, they have each other. TL;DR Sam can get violent without Max and Max can get depressed without Sam. Max makes Sam feel happy and calm and Sam makes Max feel happy and accepted. Moral of the story is : Never separate Sam and Max from each other or you’ll get fucking murdered for your actions.
I can't remember how I discovered it. I think I liked the way Sam said "I can't pick that up" and wanted to hear him say it again. And yes, it resets if you click on something else.

The old SCUMM engine that Hit the Road uses was originally designed for 9-Verbs (the implementation that HtR uses simplifies this to fewer commands and ties them all to the mouse cursor which you can cycle through the different types of interactions, so you don't need to click from an actual list of words), rather than the context-sensitive cursor we have in the Telltale version. The idea was so that you could interact with one object in multiple ways, which is used in several puzzles across all the old LucasArts games.
Well, it's kinda like their dynamic I suppose. Max is more than happy to cause mayhem more than Sam does. Sam got bullied a lot as a kid and meeting Max and seeing what he can do, he enables Max's violent behavior to his own advantage i.e. when he gets annoyed or "spirit broken" by whining. Without Max around though, Sam stands up for himself and don't take nonsense.
I wonder how people discovered this? Someone must have gone on a clicking frenzy (does the thing reset if you attempt to pick up another 'unpickuable' object?)
"i give up" i feel like this all the time especially when my dumb supported living program cant even pay my bills and my dad's dumb brain(after he had a diabetic stroke) and especially since i have a 3,000 acre fire near me i feel like giving up on this world.
