8man is obviously still plagued with plenty of cognitive distortions here, but I love how subtly yet poignantly his growth throughout the story so far is presented via his relationship with Kaori (the junior high classmate), a painful reminder of his past. Turning from a lonely boy desperately trying to slide into girls' DMs to one who has actualized plenty by forging meaningful relationships and serving his community, he's found some social footing for once, and Kaori can tell -- nonverbally -- which is shown through how she's actually starting to find interest in his life herself. Mind you, when they encountered each other the first time all she could say about Hikky was that they were, in fact, classmates, and that he confessed to her outta nowhere, not even remembering a single one of 8man's poor attempts at texting her. It comes full cirlce, from Hikigaya pestering the girl's DMs to now her snooping around questioning him about *his* love life. All bro had to do was just get a life and stop being desperate lol (too bad the latter came from deep self-esteem issues)
