This is something I personally had to struggle with last year. A now former friend of the family treated us very poorly. I won't go into excessive detail, but after a possible business relationship fell through, he made very public, very serious and very false accusations against my family, and he tried (and failed) to get us kicked out of our local church. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to sue him; the pain and stress he inflicted on me and my wife were considerable. But the more I searched my heart, the more I realized that while I had a good reason on the surface, it was hiding bad motives. It would also make the situation fester for months or years, and I would know no peace. So eventually, I just decided to let it go. And while it didn't feel that way on the spot, in retrospect it was the right call.
That is harsh. Someone borrowed money for a business investment from my uncle. And when my uncle asked about it, he said it was gone and refused to pay back the money that was borrowed. The problem was he was a church elder or pastor and we were very sad and disappointed by what happened. There was another person who was a great preacher in our church. He borrowed money from several churchmembers including my uncle and after that we never saw or heard anything about the money after that. He also vanished from church after that incident. I really don't know what to make of this.
Allen this type of series is absolutely fantastic, I haven't missed a single episode. I hope and pray that the Holy Spirit leads you to keep doing this with the Epistles

I was in a church many years ago where one member sued another. The attorney for the "suer" was another one of our church members. Fast forward, I was taking a vacation with a friend from church and a member said she would care for my mother and didn't want to be paid. She told me this 3 times. The friend I was going on vacation told me she heard it stated twice. So, I bought the lady caring for my mother around $250 worth of things I felt would be a blessing to her. The day I came home and gave the lady the gifts I'd bought her, she very sadly said she wish I hadn't done that. She showed up at my door the next day with gifts in hand saying she didn't want them - she wanted $500. So, she got the $500. Then I got a letter from the same attorney aforementioned stating I could be sued for non-payment for services rendered. How sad I was for the immaturity of all involved.
Wow! The timing of this video is insane. My elderly mother and brother of special needs has a court hearing for NO- FAULT eviction filed by the landlord, who is a “PASTOR,” this Friday. I’m running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to see what funding and help is out there and I’m running out of time. In todays world, churches can become major business concerns that you have little recourse outside of the legal system even when dealing with other Christi. Because the sad truth is that sometimes nobody can do you wrong like saints.

This explanation by bro. Allen is really needed for the western church... and sadly so. If people would actually take the teaching of Jesus Christ more seriously, they should be able to see that taking fellow believers to a civil court is a no-no. Even taking non-believers to court over ridiculous law suits and tort claims that basically are actions of revenge or some greedy wish of getting rich quick leaves a very bad testimony. 'I have decided to follow Jesus' is way more than an emotional response to an altar call.
I've truly enjoyed this series. I do believe we should follow what scripture teaches as our primary guidance in handling matters with other Christians. I had an issue come up with a brother who was in a position of authority at church. I spoke to the Pastor and asked that he come with me to address the issue. I did so becsuse of guidance from a brother from my church when I lived in another state who held the same position. I studied the word of God and used scripture to address everything included my statement to him. God's perspective is always what's most important. It worked out for the most part. I learned that when I chose to diligently look to scripture for guidance it will ultimately be OK.

It is certainly the best advice, as the Bible precisely teaches this. And it gets even more complicated if one doesn't know that the person they're suing is a Bible-believing brother in Christ (and attending another local church).

No, you are not supposed to sue a Christian... HOWEVER, extremely rare situations arise where a lawsuit is absolutely necessary. Such as - trying to survive for 40 years to make a Christian "happy" and said person physically beating you until you're 16, not getting you help after begging for it (in any way) after a failed suicide attempt, and launching an attack to everyone else other than that person - family, friends, physicians, professional connections, etc. It was taken to a pastor on a few occasions to learn that another person said the same extreme abuse details to them. After a decade of giving this person grace and forgiveness, it not being reciprocated - rather, libel and slander running rampant the point of psychological paralysis - that is the time to commence a lawsuit to get them to cease and desist. Yes, I have 30 years legal experience and am a Christian. If the situation IS CRIMINAL and you continue to try to get away from them, turn the other cheek, and they've made comments about your dying - YES, get help!!!! Domestic violence, harassment, and slander ARE unacceptable. And, slander/libel are civil matters, so only pursue that IF it is life-ruining to you - alters your medical diagnoses (wrongly), etc. Make sure you've already forgiven them - do any legal action out of love for them. Revenge is poison.

Something you said towards the end of the video struck me. “If you enjoyed this video”. I don’t watch your videos because I enjoy them. When I was at church camp I would hear adults talking about that nights preacher. They said that they either liked or disliked a certain pastors sermons. It’s not about liking or disliking the sermon. If the Holy Spirit convicts you based on the sermon, then that is exactly who you need to be listening to. I don’t watch your videos because I enjoy them. I have been convicted by the Holy Spirit based on your words. There have been a few that I have thought, “no I don’t want to see that”, but they have been good for me.

I think this topic is a great subject for a fresh perspective on the culture of Christian living. Because our culture has changed so much, I think we(the modern church) tend to think of Christianity as just the act of giving ourselves to and believing in the divinity of Jesus and the trinity. But much of our culture these days says it’s ok to still do “pagan” things. The total Christian culture is one of the things a lot of churches seem to not speak about, mostly because the subcultures take over as THE culture. Or we get the feel good messages that satisfy the Sunday show up but not the need to learn. It’s easy to gloss over this section in 1Cor because most of the time, it may not apply all the time. The take away, for me, is that there are ways to handle in-house things in an in-house way that is righteous. This series is awesome. Thank you for all the insight. Be Encouraged
This is a situation I found myself in some years ago, at the time there was a real temptation to ‘expose’ the group of Christians who defrauded me but I knew I couldn’t. I was angry and hurt for quite a while and I had to allow God to deal with my heart so that I could truly forgive those who did wrong to me.
This is an amazing testimony. The fact that you said you let God work on your heart is simply humbling. God knows our hearts and our intentions even though we might try to keep it to ourselves and in our head BUT he is a just God. Whatever is hidden in darkness will always be exposed in the light. Honestly this is how I feel every time I see the Calvinist-Armenian arguments (debates) I am big into history and I have seen throughout history since the 1600 how nasty the two sides get towards each other, Paul warned us against this. We are dividing the body of Christ in these arguments. I have even seen it on which translation of The Holy Scriptures is the right one to read.

Excellent video. Remember the example of our Lord, brothers and sisters, as other epistles remind us: When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 1 Peter 2:23 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. Hebrews 12:3 "But my fellow Christians should know better!" It is true; they should. But if Jesus could trust His Father to judge justly for what _He_ endured, we must be more patient with our brothers and sisters. And as Allen said, it comes down to faith.

I've been going through different books and I Corinthians was one that I summarized recently for my own study. I used the KJV Bible primarily, so all have to go back and compare. I'm currently almost finished with the gospel of Matthew. God bless!
