I see a tiny village for the fairy folk out in your backyard...all living happily in the houses you made them...until one day when there's a horrific incident with the snake, none of the fairies can be found and the snake isn't hungry for weeks....JUST KID'N! Here’s a fun story. So I bought my twin a small clay frog and she named it Phillip. Shortly after I started making a forest village for her frog to surprise her and then I saw this video. The carving looked exactly like how I wanted her village to look like and it helped me a ton looking for things to buy to finish the village. I’ve been working on it all year and on Christmas Day I’m going to give her the beggings of her village and we will continue to work on it for years hopefully thank you for always inspiring me Bobby your videos have helped me become more creative and have gotten me through high school in a pandemic. And to anyone else who’s reading this have an amazing day.❤️

it's because of you that I asked my dad if I could have his old drommel (drummel...? dremmel...?) the carvy drilly tool-io... when I have never worked with wood before. Going to get a mask and some different bits from the store on Sunday (got class tomorrow) and try my hand at carving on some scrap wood. I've used clay, yarn, cloth, paper mache, tried plaster of Paris yesterday (it dries QUICK and gets really warm!) and planning to try out more :D

and when I was messing with the plaster, he suggested that I use it to make a block to carve into too. I decided to put the solo cup that I was mixing in to good use in having it double as a mold. Any plaster that dried on the inside layered to make a block, and I had fun by adding some food dye each time I mixed a new small batch to make kind of pastel rainbow layers like your auto paint crow skull project. Maybe I'll carve a plump marshmallow out of it. :) EDIT: I meant mushroom lol

I have a dremel but just got a flex shaft. I felt that a dremel spins a bit too fast, with not enough torque for wood carving. Also the chuck is pretty small.
@FantasyAddict95
@FantasyAddict95 6 лет назад
I don't know anything about the tools, I'm going to be looking up videos before I set up to try it out, but I imagine different brands and models are slightly different in how they perform, along with the material you choose to use. I'm not familiar with the terms and bits, but just wanted to test it to try it out, and learn more as I get into it. I think just making some lines and curves onto a branch or a plank is a decent start, and if I'm happy I can try carving shapes (like the mushroom I mentioned. just a semisphere on a tube,with details being a lip, lines for the gills, and a more carrot shape for the stalk.) I can find and expand my toolkit as I discover what things are and aren't good for, and what it is I want to make.
@kidinabstract

This video and the things you talk about remind me of my own blank canvas-phobia; an intense fear of starting something in fear of "ruining" the "perfect" blank canvas in front of you. (This isn't just for painting, though, this is about anything from painting, to using clay, to filling sketch books) For years I wouldn't use my canvases or my "good" sketch books because I was always afraid that by using them I would totally ruin them. So, instead, I would hoard them, and put off using them until my art was "good enough" to be on them. Pro-tip? Your art IS GOOD ENOUGH! Use fancy sketch books!! Paint on nice clean canvases!! MAKE MISTAKES! MAKE ART! If you keep waiting for your art to be "better" or be "good enough" it's never going to happen! You have to MAKE IT HAPPEN! Your art, even if it's "bad", is worth more than a blank canvas that never gets used!

So true. I remember someone asking what standard is good enough for them to sell something they made. The person answering said never. They said you will never be satisfied with something you make as being “perfect “ so sell when you are ready.

So true!! Wonderful advice :D Same goes for making things like web comics and stories, thinking you're not good enough to do so is only going to put it off. You gotta work on it, and throwing yourself into something is probably the best way to work!

That is bloody awesome mate, really turned out well. The wood looks quite easy to carve, other than grain patterns it looks as if it was Lime wood, or Box wood to you peeps over the pond...great job Bobby, I see you’ve met a near neighbour of mine, Nick Zammeti. Hope to see you at makers central in May. 👍🏼😊

This is so gorgeous and really inspiring to try some new mediums. I usually only use a graphite pencil though, so that would be a huge change! Maybe I'll try wood burning first. Lol

I came across something I deeply desired yesterday and my first thought was, "I want that!" I did not, however, go on an epic tricycle journey to Wal-Mart to obtain it for myself. :(

then you did it wrong! you must either A) USE THE TRICYCLE or B) MAKE THE THING YOU WANT!
