The biggest problem with having doors that announce when they're open all the time is you eventually drown out the noise they make as a normal occurrence. That's what happened to Linus. He should set it up to only go off during sleeping and away hours. It would be just as effective.

I've never thought about that, but there is this drug store close to me and every time I go it has a "Welcome" sound, and every time I go there I hate that super old, high pitch, and compressed audio, but the employee there is super chill about that sound.

@@frecio231 interesting human factor thing that i learned when i got my pilots license: you wanna make sure alarms and caution bells sound only when the actual system is failing or there is an actual problem. it is easy to drown out the alarms if they always sounded. there are a number of issues where people land with the gear up because they drown out the alarm because it always sounds. there was an accident related to disabling breakers because it was one way to shut up the stall alarm when they were on the ground.

@@frecio231 same thing happens with pages in a hospital. If a resident or attending is getting hammer paged by nursing/consults they are more likely to miss a page when it's important.

@@frecio231 as a former gas station employee who had that kind of door opening security noise. It's less getting use to the sound and more just learning how to deactivate the body's reaction to it. At first I always cringed at it but after a while I just took it in stride while my ears were practically bleeding. I never found myself not hearing it/hearing it less as you do with some more common sounds Plus we only used it at night when in the cooler. Or when you were dog tired and it helps keep you from falling asleep while standing straight up at the counter.

Honest mistakes do happen. About 20 years ago I left the grocery store, got into my car, but it would not start. Then I realized one difference, an air freshener that I didn't have. Then I realized, ohhhhh, this isn't my car. It was the same make, same model, same color (both outside and inside), parked where I normally park, and unlocked. Plus my key fit and could lock and unlock doors. The car was clean inside, but I had just cleaned mine so it didn't set off any suspicion. The key simply could not start the car. I think no one saw me, so I just grabbed my groceries and got out. It would be very easy to be accused of trying to steal a car. BTW, during a lifetime several very weird things will happen. I have found it is best to just not tell anyone about them. Almost everyone will think they are lies.

Reminds me of high school, me and another guy had the same make and model truck... and keys. Walk out into the parking lot and have to look for it every Friday and he is in the row his was in looking for it... became a contest on who found theirs first. He discovered his keys worked with my truck because he wasn't paying attention until backing out and saw the wood in the bed... then noticed his truck and decided to mess with me and move mine.

My dad did something similar to this. We live close to the store, he drove to the store and bought groceries, then he walked home. Later that evening he didn't see it in the parking lot outside the apartment so he reported it stolen. The next day he went to the store again and he saw the car, he thought to himself that car is very similar to my car, but it can't be, mine got stolen yesturday.

Almost happened to my dad. For some reason, our car alarm had the same "combination" of a random neighbor's SUV. Every time any of them unlocked their car, the other one got unlocked as well. Luckily my dad hates technology and uses a wheel lock as a double safety measure.

If it's in my pocket, I would definitely think someone put it there IF I had been in a crowded area. - But still, I'm hyper-aware and that would never happen. Pickpockets ain't got shit on an HSP either. - So if I KNEW it wasn't slipped into my pocket outdoors, I'd KNOW someone put it in my pocket when I wasn't wearing the pants. Be it by my family or otherwise.

If he had an iPhone, they give a notification that says AirTag is moving nearby. Nefarious parties could slip one into a purse or backpack to track someone, but if they’re not paired to the iPhone nearby, you get a noti or warning.

yes, actually i have a habit of picking up random things that i find cool sometimes, most get thrown away but I've been known to take up multiple collecting hobbies in my years, if i found a random object in my pocket, id be none the wiser and i think most people would be too.

The thing not knowing what an Airtag is and how it made its way in his pocket is interesting in another way. You can hand people who are distracted anything, they wil just grab it and hold it not recognizing they are holding it. For example: i was at talking to someon and my wife handed me a Book. I just hold it for like 5 minutes, until I realized, I was holding the damn book.
