Great video, You should try a face balanced mallet style putter with that grip. I switched to the claw with a spider putter and it’s my strongest part of my game now. 👍🏻
About the only thing that has always been consistent in my game over the years has been putting. By far the most important aspect of putting is between your ears. Golfers are always "looking" for the latest "gimmick" or fancy putter that comes out. Just find a putter that is comfortable for you and practice, practice, practice.
I use the claw for short delicate putts and standard for long puts. I have tremors in my right hand and short puts with a standard grip are impossible.
I swap between pencil and traditional depending how I feel that day or length of putt. Generally traditional grips is better for longer putts or needing some extra push
There's definitely a honeymoon phase with new putting grip techniques. I think we become more focused, because it feels different. Keep grinding my man! The content is 🔥
I had the exact same problem that you had and did the exact same thing lol, it's a gamechanger for consistent speed. The lines however... still rough for me lol
Grant, wish you the best with the new grip!...that being said, if i had a nickel for everytime I've heard 'I think i figured something out' as it pertains to golf, i'd have big buck$. I think i could pay my house payment alone with how many times I've said it personally...only to realize i'm still just as lost as ever. Golf is hard, fortunately you and I and others like chasing the game-looking for improvements. Great content, thanks.
I changed to the "claw" grip this year and I have gained more confidence and become more consistent in my putting. I know you have a background in basketball and that played a big role for me, I think of putting the same way as shooting a basketball. For a right handed shooter, your left hand in basketball is just a guide to keep your shot on balance and on-line with the rim; Using the claw for putting is the same theory using opposite hands, now your right hand is the guide to keep you on balance and on-line with your target. Keep up the good work, really enjoy your content!
Hey @GrantHorvatgolfs, have you changed your putting technique at all since this video? Your putting's been dialed in recently, wondering if you fine tuned anything! :D
Grant, if you don't mind, could I offer a suggestion? I also use claw. But when I'm like 30-50ft away from the hole on the green, I go back to traditional since I feel like it helps me with distance control a little more. Less accurate but better distance control. You should give it a try if you can. Keep up with the good content!
Grant does a great job of EMPHASIZING the key points of what he is teaching/explaining while speaking to the camera. He’s much more comfortable in front of the camera now. Great stuff and high quality content from the good good boys
Great to see the human side...I get shalacked by my Boyz on grass because of my putting. Going through the same stuff. No confidence in the flat stick. My right hand takes over as well. Going to Sapelo Hammock in Ga Wednesday, and going to give the new grip a try. Love the content.
That right hand jerking is an early form of the "Yips" (technically known as Focal Dystonia). The reason it happens is that your brain has a "divot" in its list of motions that are needed to make a good putt. Typically changing something about your stroke will make the yips recede for a while - that's why old guys like me all own 40 putters and have also tried all the grips you mentioned. Just like the cross hand grip you used in college, this grip will work for you for a while, and then you'll start to yip again - which means it's time to change your stroke, grip or putter again.
I use that same putter And there is no forgiveness you must make center contact. But the beauty of it is it holds you accountable so once you dial in center contact your putting becomes NAILS
I really like the look of this grip, for me...you could remove about 9 minutes of redundant jabber, we can back up if we miss something 😀 keep it coming!!
Try a SuperStroke 1.0 or 2.0 with the claw grip. You'll love the feel of it and it compliments the grip type. Your pistol grip on that putter is difficult with the claw IMO
I feel like you were saying it without saying it this way, but I just did a long session with the pencil grip right before this video to try and take my wrists out of the stroke. Same problem, I get “flicky” or snappy with my right hand and it throws my distance control and lines all off. Ultimately, I don’t like the pencil grip for in-game, but I use it for practice and maybe the 5-10 footers like Phil. Otherwise, I like my traditional grip still and focus on using my shoulders and leading my left wrist through. Great video!
The content coming up is the best you ever filmed? I hope that means 2160p @ 60fps otherwise that Mexico content for GoodGood is still the best ever. Video quality was awesome and the course was pristine
Grant , would love to see a what’s in the bag from you and some of the good good guys on the labs or here. I see you use mizuno now but you have the Scotty and ping driver. Did you have vokeys ? I love knowing what good golfers use
I used to do the Koepka finger and then just one day dropped it but like two months ago I added it back and now my putting is the best it has ever been. It's amazing how much more confident I am in my putting.
Loved the video! Thanks for always sharing the knowledge and the grind with us! What ever happened to the wedge and putter fitting video you announced a while back? I'd love to see you get fit fore your putter. Just a thought.
