Finland is one of the most northern countries in Europe. That means: cold(!) summers (and probably very rainy), super dark winters (if you are above the polarcircle, you have months(!) of darkness in the winter, not even a single hour with the sun) and not many citizens (5,5 million people at all). If you are coming from the USA and you are coming from a "warm" environment, you might be shocked by the climate of finland. Do not underestimate this problem. In Germany, we know "bad weather" as well (of course), but its way(!) warmer than finland. And we do not have the dark winter without any daylight. I would not opt for finland if i were you. Ok, its a rich country, wealthy and with a very good social system incl. healthhcare. Probably even better than in Germany, but: if you come from USA, already Germany is a big releaf from the healthcare desaster in the USA.

Maybe you should consider to compare Germany with Switzerland… better weather there… more oportunities, direct democraty and more responsability for your own than in Germany… and if it does‘nt work with your own responsability, you have a strong social network. Finland is in Europe, Germany is in Europe. Both states, of course, have different cultural characteristics due to their location and history. While in the Middle Ages Scandinavia, i.e. the northernmost states in Europe, including Finland, lived more in your cultural bubble of the Vikings, Germany was oriented more to the south, towards Italy. This has something to do with the conquests in earliest times, cities in Germany were founded by the Romans, like Cologne. Then the Ottomans came to our door. All this remained far away from Scandinavia and they had their own history. The first "Americans", if you exclude the primitive peoples, were Vikings. Columbus did not even discover America, otherwise it would be called "Kolumburia" or something. No, it was later his former helmsman Amerigo Vespucci. He was the first to set foot on the American continent, according to historians of the time, so the continent was named after him, not Columbus - Amerigo = America It was the Vikings, people from today's Scandinavia, who discovered and visited America far before the "modern" world.

I am a native German woman, since many, many Generationen, and the people of our village, and I know IT from neighbourhood villages, we have enough of foreign people. We are working hard, and we are Not longer willing to feed people from far away. We Donut like so much foreign people, it's enough, also we don't like people from US. They are loud, they think, all has to be like they want. Germany is Our home, and we love our home, but it is Not a Paradies!!!!

I am german and i am kind of sick of these stories. Germany is not the paradise . A lot of problems here. Many cities are unbelievely ugly. 6 month a year its cloudy, rainy, wet and cold. Most of my life i tried to escape. Lived 15 years in the south. Only came back to profit from social benefits
Millions of people come here only for the social benefits. And the good educated people are fleeing the country. I can make almost double somewhere else so I will be gone as soon as I finish University.
