Hi Dino. I found your channel today while installing my (used) 5.3 gal Acerbis tank and I didn't have an installation guide. Yours was the only video detailed enough to show the hardware and answered my questions. I can't say enough good things about your videos. The quality, care, preparation, and effort you put into them is amazing and your positive attitude makes them even better. I feel like I'm watching a fully produced show on cable. You got an instant subscriber here 👍 Please keep it up and I'll continue watching and learning from you

Hi Dino, I've been watching your program since I got my first motorcycle a year ago, a 1997 DR650. It started having some issues and I finally got the courage to remove the carb and get to work. Between this stuff and the "BST Bible" I got through it. You explain everything so well and helped me over the hump. I really appreciate your help and hope you keep making these videos!!!

This video is very detailed - voice and picture - regarding the DR 650 carburettor. It has all (and some more) of the information needed for servicing the carburettor (which has some delicate parts being a diaphragm carby). This video does not skip over the important aspects of gently handling the disassembly or the need to be careful with compressed air - both pressure and direction. Anyone who does DR maintenance will find this useful. Thankyou Dino.

Thanks Brother from Utah. My 2017 Dr has seen the Rockies and Moab more times than I can remember. Would not start this spring. I did the usual Sea Foam treatment, etc. Pulled the carb today and was surprised from all the fine red dirt from Moab and utah. Used a carb cleaning fluid and reassembled. The slide was filthy, which surprised me. Anyway, adjusted the valves and cleaned all the gunk from the spark plugs from the resulting in many...many attempts to start prior to cleaning. I put it all back together just two hours ago. Installed a new fuel filter. And..Wow..I just touch the starter and she runs good. I did adjust the mixture and idle of course. I'm 57 and this bike will give me many more years in the Mountains and Desserts of Utah. God Bless...

Thanks for great detailed video, Fun fact difference between JIS and Philips screwdriver is the tip of the screwdriver. JIS = flat tip Philips = pointed tip Use JIS on any Philip head screw but not Philips on any screw. Simple solution take a Philips head screwdriver and flat-out the sharp bottom out. It helps if you secure the carb in a vise with protective jaws which allows very accurate pressure on the screws, also never use torch cleaning tips, they have serrations that will damage the orifices of the jets, just use smooth wire, while your at it replace any rubber O rings and seals with one's that can resist ethanol fuel, a guy named Gregory Bender at thisoldtractor sells the kits.

Thank you for the question, again I'm not a mechanic but I will give my thoughts. The is serviceable and it may be best to first give the entire carb a good cleaning to ensure nothing is stuck in the float needle valve. Once clean check the condition of the float needle tip and take a look in the port that the needle sits, the seat at the bottom should be in place and in good condition. When putting it back togeather check the float height and adjust if required. If this does not stop the leaking you may need a new float, needle and seat. Hope this helps. Dino

Thank you for the question Roy and I love your Norwegian English. I will double check this but I am sure the fat line runs under the seat to a small air filter. Again I'll check again tomorrow just to be sure. Dino

@@DinosTinkerShed While it is common practice to inspect & replace worn parts etc while stripped to that level I do understand your position for creating these videos under specific titles ... here in Aus the guide is not available under the OEM - E24 DR parts list which deletes the carb as being sustainable by replacing worn parts ... this is a presumed deliberate move to force the purchase of a new carb when the guide is designed to wear & be replaced ... which would be described as a consumable ... as you have shown is available to purchase in the US ... cheers mate ... you do a great job on these vids ...

My dr650 doesn't idle by itself. It starts badly and is misfiring a lot. Is the carb the problem? It sat in a barn a long time.

Although it is hard to tell for sure I would say you are the right track here. Most likely the carb is gummed up. Thank you again for the question. Dino

can someone please help me ID the hose at 6:30. The big hos, I believe goes to the breather filter up above the air box, trying to remember if the smaller/bottom hose is just a vent or where it routes to. Thank you

Hey thank you for the question. I belive the smaller hose is the vacuum port for your petcock . Dino

Hello! Thanks for this very helpful video! I realized while taking off the carb that my vacuum port had nothing going to it. It looks like an aftermarket petcock that doesn’t have a vacuum port. I’m assuming I should block off this vacuum port instead of leaving it open correct?

If the small port is not capped off can this cause issues?? If so what kind of issues? Thanks !

I did not but a previous owner did add a heavier rear spring. I have not had the forks open yet but I do not believe they have been modified. Thanks for the question Dino

@@DinosTinkerShed the only reason i ask is because I just finished doing a 9.6kg racetech spring in the rear with 10w oil, and the .8kg fork springs, also with 10w oil, and I am thoroughly blown away by how much more confident it feels on and off road. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably do that first. I'm a 240lb guy and it actually feels tailored to me now.

I know adds are a pain, it is how I can make a bit of cash for each video and I appreciate your patience with them. Even if I turn off the monetization, RU-vid will put adds on lol, I had ads on my channel even before I qualified to monetize. Again, sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. Dino

Help Dino! After cleaning the carb, installing an acerbis tank, and a procycle jet kit my dr hasn’t been able stay running. The tank doesn’t seem to want to flow fuel in the on position, but it does in reserve. With that said, I put maybe a gallon just to see if it was going to work. So is the tank not flowing cause there’s hardly any fuel? If I run it in reserve, it dies after about a mile of driving and it seems to always die when I throttle down. To start it back up I have to open the throttle completely. Any ideas?
@DinosTinkerShed
@DinosTinkerShed 2 года назад
You are correct, the red is ment to draw from a lower level than the on position. Its a bit of a safety so you don't run out of gas. You will need to add more fuel to the tank to get the level high enough for the on position to draw fuel Dino
@DinosTinkerShed
@DinosTinkerShed 2 года назад
Did you get the choke seated correctly after the cleaning and jet kit?
@DinosTinkerShed
@DinosTinkerShed 2 года назад
Also, remember that the fuel you put in is split on each side of the tank so a gallon may not be enough to keep it running to long.
