The names of colors in Italian - Learn Italian Vocabulary
I colori in italiano = The colors in Italian
The colors that appear in this Italian lesson are:
nero / nera, marrone, grigio / grigia, bianco / bianca, giallo / gialla, arancione, rosso / rossa, rosa, viola, blu, azzurro / azzurra, verde.
You will see a color on the screen with its corresponding name next to it.
If the color has a different masculine and feminine form (e.g. bianco - bianca) then we will give both forms. You will also hear the pronunciation of each color by a native Italian speaker. Each color is pronounced twice.
Once the basic colors have been shown, we highlight the difference in pronunciation between ROSSA and ROSA.
In the third section a crayon appears on the screen for about two seconds before the name of its color appears next to it. This gives the viewer a short amount of time to think of the name of that color in Italian (before it appears) or enough time to click pause so they can think about it. When the name appears, you will hear it pronounced twice.
We end the lesson with the Italian phrase:
Il mio colore preferito è ...
(My favorite color is ...)
Next, there is a summary chart about Italian colors.
NOTE: This lesson is about basic colors in Italian.
In another lesson we will go into more detail about masculine/feminine and singular/plural forms of colors in Italian. (Adjective agreement)

@@Sriththikthee it's part of the fun of learning languages. English dropped its genders ages ago so it seems strange when discovering the rules surrounding them in other languages. So far as I can see even within romanse languages the gender of nouns varies so it is just a question of learning them as you go along. It is important because the noun porta and porto in Italian or pasta and pasto have different meanings

Love how you show the single and plural form of the word. Will be less confusing if I see it somewhere else

Could you please explain why there’re having 2 forms in some colors?

Colors in Italian have a masculine and feminine form. A color that ends in O is used with masculine nouns. A color that ends in A is used with feminine nouns. (Some colors have the same form for masc/fem.)

@@WoodwardItalian in Italian some colours stay the same regardless of noun gender. For example rosa (pink) others change depending on gender eg rosso (red). Unfortunately I don't know if there is anyway other than familiarity of telling. Azzurro which is a shade of blue changes with gender blu which is also a shade of blue doesn't.
